it-starts-at-midnight-1

Gosh, I am growing up so quickly. It seems like just yesterday that I said to myself “hey, let’s make a blog that lets us spew forth bookish word vomit on unsuspecting victims”. But alas, it was three years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun, meeting great people, and reading lots of great stuff.

I didn’t know what to talk about this year, so I decided on a list. A list of THREES. I am mostly making these up as I go along, so, fun surprises for all of us. And yes, I will give something away at the end. Again, who even knows what. I’ll have decided by the end of the post, I guess 😉

Also, as much as I tried to include everyone that I love, there is simply never going to be enough room to tell you all how much you mean to me. But one of my goals was to try to tell people MORE and not worry as much about leaving people out, because if you are reading this, I promise that you mean SO MUCH to me. This wouldn’t be a “thing” without you. ♥

Now, off we go! These obviously link to junk- Goodreads, the post in question, etc. I’d not leave you to fend for yourselves 😉  OH and to be clear, there is probably going to be a lot of cheating. Three is hard, guys.

blogo1

So, these are only since I started blogging. Also, this was super hard since two were on my “elite favorites” shelf and I had to pick just ONE from the others. I had a runner-up, it was Return Once More. Because I love cheating.

blogo4

 Of the positive sort…

218057172844807724905359

I must say, while I also liked my review for Walk on Earth a Stranger, I simply didn’t want to use it twice. Games are fun either way, right?

Seriously, these are top notch if I have to brag a little…

Sorry, the two in the middle were tied, that isn’t my fault, you see. Also, the irony that the post about commenting has the most comments is not lost on me, I promise.

bea16Shattering (1)-nfNano WINFireShot Capture 155 - Shannon_It Starts At Midnight (@shan_ - https___www.instagram.com_shannonmiz_

I went to BEA again, which was a goal I had set last year! I also won NaNo, which was another goal. And I won Bookish Games, which I didn’t know was a goal but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t the most amazing thing that happened all year 😉 Also, I had to cheat because… it’s me.

blogo11

1. BEA 2017. Goodness, it is right down the street. (Fine, two hours away, but let’s not be picky. Plus, I need my people!)

2.  NaNo, Part 2. Guys, I have no idea if this will happen. But I will try. I hope.

3. I’m going to still try to calm down, and maybe one of these years, it won’t be in vain 😉  Hey, a girl can dream!

blogo19

Copy of Book (2)SnarkBook

I just went ahead and added the entire category of The 100, because obviously. Book Bookish Movie reviews are SO. FUN. blogo7

Okay so some of my favorites were also the most popular. Go figure. So these are my favorites that didn’t get as many comments/pageviews!

TurningThe Fine Line2It starts at Midnight
blogo20

These are in the past year! And also, they’re the non-boring ones. Like obviously, people searched for “It Starts at Midnight”.

1. “eu cookie law eu-cookie-law info” I… am not even in Europe, so… I have no idea. And I was probably useless.

2. “amazon mp3 meet me in montana” This was one last year too… I literally have no idea what this is. I don’t imagine I talk about Montana in general a lot? Or mp3s?

3. “books like the notebook” I did a TTT about books that made me cry like The Notebook, so at least this makes sense.

Bonuses: “holly and dante” I don’t know who they are, but I officially talk about Holly enough that she is one of the most searched for terms on my blog. So there’s that.

“download music from the 100 season 3 used for raven called nevermore” And I think this means I have officially become a place where people can come to obsess about The 100? That’s fun. I can only provide legal listening options though, I am afraid.

blogo2Please note that you can find all of my beloved favorites in my blogroll- but these are ones that make my day when I see a new post from, basically! Two of you should probably post more. Just saying. Cait, keep up the good work 😉

blogbutton-250button (2)button_zpse5baeb95

The funny thing is, these three are super different, but I think they make me well-rounded. Cait is perfect for bookishness, Larissa has the best thought provoking discussions, and Vlora makes me laugh like no other!

blogo17

These are the bloggers who I know are going to feel the same as me on books- I trust their reviews extra! Cynthia is my official bookish soulmate though, just so everyone knows I have dibs.

These guys aren’t new, just new to ME! And I am happy I found them all 🙂

NickNereydaButtonallbookbuttonbh

This would be super cheat-worthy, except Nick and Nereyda joined forces about a week after my blogoversary last year so it counts, okay? I ummm may or may not have made Greg’s button just now….

blogo5

I mean, I met more people than this, but I had to choose three, okay?

blogo22

These ladies… well #ShatteringStigmas never would have been a thing without them. Erica co-hosted this year, but she provided both support and a heartfelt post the first year. And Inge and Kayla… well I have said before that this wouldn’t have been in existence without them. And I mean it. Kayla’s blog is defunct, but I had to pour one out for one’s homie. Her button links to her Twitter.

blogo23

I won’t even pretend to keep it to three, okay?

foxbuttonButton-1rashikayaib1button

When I do not talk to these ladies, I get sad. And even though I don’t get to talk to Sabrina every day, when I do get to talk to her, we make up for time lost 😉 I love each of you for the friendship and support and just… being you. I love you ♥♥♥

 thegiv (1)

As it turns out, I didn’t come up with any grand and glorious ideas since I started the post (about 4 hours ago now, this thing took a long time!), so…

You can win ANY book on my Goodreads shelves! Past, future, doesn’t matter. You pick! I am certain that you can find something out of 1,876 books… and counting! 😀  International, as long as TBD ships! OH and if you can convince me to add a book to my shelves, it is fair game too 😉

(OH one minor disclaimer, I will not buy Fifty Shades. Because I can’t support it. So while it is on my shelf, it is the one off-limits. )

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So, that’s it for this year! Anything you want to see over the next year? Anything I should improve on, do more of, do less of? Seriously, now’s your chance, feel free to tell me what you think 😉

Happy 3rd blogiversary!! I like the way you did your blogiversary post. It certainly is a nice change from all the “nth facts bout me” and “blog stats to see how far I’ve/we’ve come”.

    Here’s three facts bout me:
    1. I’m born in the year of the rabbit.
    2. I have a brother who’s also born in the year of the rabbit. So he’s bout 12 years younger than me.
    3. I like the number 4.

  3. Happy blogversary, Shannon! I’ve just started following you, but it’s been great getting to know you! 🙂
Three things about me? I’m a triplet, even more threes, haha. I live in the Netherlands, so far away from everything that’s going on in the book world. And I have more reading slumps than I can count, haha.

  6. Happy blogoversary!!! Ah love all the lists of threes!!! Seeing The Serpent King on your top 3 books makes me think I need to bump it up ASAP. And change nothing lady. Your blog is awesome. Three things about me: I love the beach and will never move away from it, I named my dog after a really random reference on Scrubs, I could not survive without coffee and wine (usually in that order).

  7. Hey Shannon, congratulations! I love this post. You are awesome to actually keep these lists to 3, or sort of anyways. Thank you so much for including me in the mix! I totally agree with some of your 3s, thanks for throwing so much love to other bloggers.
I love that The Serpent King is on your list of best, also Walk of Earth a Stranger. I just got Like a River Glorious (had to buy it myself, *sigh*). I can’t wait to read it tho. I also can’t wait to see you at BEA and it would be so cool to see you before then, but we are both such busy ladies that doesn’t seem probable. Congratulations again, I can’t wait to see what you come up with this year!

Happy Blogiversary! I love you list of threes. Superb picks for your favorite three books. (I want everyone to read The Serpent King!!) Three things about me. 1. I grew up in Brooklyn, and am therefore, a bagel and pizza snob. 2. I am a morning person. Seriously, I rise at 3am, but one gets a lot done before people wake up and distract you. 3. I love to do logic puzzles. Trying to keep the brain in shape

  9. Shannon, congratulations on your blog being three years old! It is officially one of my favourite blogs and you’re officially one of my favourite people, so there’s that. You and your words never fail to make me laugh. I’m so happy I’ve met you. ♥

    1) i have a dog, a cat and now a baby pigeon
    2) i love to create handmade gift for friends
3)i fear i will loose my mother before teh end of teh year because of Charcot illness

  11. Congratulations on your blog’s third birthday! I had no idea your blog was so young – I mean, you have a seriously great following! 🙂

And I love the exception to the giveaway, haha 😀 It’s really important, actually, not supporting authors who write such problematic books. But that’s a discussion for another day.

Hmm, three things about me… 1) I am very tall. Close to 6′ actually. 2) I love French toast but I’m worried it’s not healthy so I don’t eat it too often *sob*. 3) I have read Pride and Prejudice at least 7 times, not including audiobook re-reading. 🙂

  12. Congratulations on three years! How exciting.

    Three Things About Me:
    – I live in Montana (also, Meet Me in Montana is a song title so I have no idea how that ended up as a search term for you).
    – For some reason I thought teaching would be a good career path and I love it even though it does make me wonder if I have any sanity left at all.
    – I love languages (favorite would probably be Latin).

3.My youngest brother was my baby to raise since my mom worked so much.

  15. Congrats! Three years is crazy. You’ve done so much. I love your 100 reviews. Pretty amazing part of my week when the show was airing. Here’s to 3 more years!

  16. I would have never guessed its only been 3 years! You’re so prolific and there is an aura of wisdom that permeates the site. =) Well, Happy Blog Birthday, Shannon.

  17. Awwww Shannon, I can’t believe I’m in the must read list, thanks so much! Your blog also makes me laugh all the time (speaking of, I don’t understand why the tropes post is less popular because I thought it was frickin’ hilarious, and I’m waiting on part 2 :D) and CONGRATULATIONS ON TURNING THREE. That is an age. Like, two, that’s barely there, but THREE. I don’t even know what I’m saying haha. I could also swear you just turned two, so I’m not sure if you’re just conning people into congratulations, but then again that would be an awful lot of give-aways, so I’m assuming I just fell through a time hole or something. And I see your snarky comment, never fear haha. I shall blog again at some point, I am sure. I love that everyone has, like, a serious blog button and then there’s… mine. :’D It’s probably a pretty good representation of the content to be expected haha.

So the EU cookie law basically just states that everyone must have three cookies on them at all times, cookie consumption cannot drop below one cookie a day per person, and that there must be one shop per street that sells cookies (if there are no shops in that street, that role can be fulfilled by a licensed citizen – only the most respected and upstanding members of society usually receive this honor after going through rigorous training). Cookie flavor may vary, but must remain sweet. Additionally, no unconventional flavors (e.g. chocolate-broccoli, licorice-beef etc.) are allowed. We’re not savages. 3) I’m obsessed with the color of purple.

  20. HAPPY BLOGVERSARY, SHANNON!! AAALL THE CAKE FOR YOU.🎉🍰🎉🍰🎉🍰 And omggg you mentioned meeee. *blushes* I’M SO HONOURED. <3 Your blog is legit one of my top favourites of ever! (C'mon now, I only follow like 3 blogs via email so I don't miss posts AND YOURS IS ONE OF THEM.😱😊😊😊) And I love your goals! And I love that you adore Rae Carson books so much! And I PROMISE I WILL WATCH THE 100 AT LEAST SOMETIME SOON. LIKE IT'S ON MY TO-DO LIST. *nods* ;D And my only demand is that you blog forever basically. <— reasonable request 😂

  21. First of all, happy, happy, happy blogoversary!! I can’t believe time is flying by so fast!

Yes to being your bookish twin! In fact, I am at a bookish conference this weekend and debating buying The Serpent King, but now that I see you loved it, the decision is made. (Oh, and I totally agree about Cynthia – I suppose if she’s your twin, she has to be mine too, so that makes sense.)

Three things about me (that you wouldn’t already know from my blog–so they’re going to be random):
    1. I’ve owned five ferrets, five dogs, three hamsters, a newt, two frogs, and a bunch of fish in my lifetime.
    2. I adopted my youngest son from Haiti, and when we started the process, he was believed to be deaf. I took two years of sign language classes because we were specifically planning on adopting a deaf child, but when we went to visit him in Haiti, I thought it was pretty obvious he could hear. (And I was right, of course. So much for planning.)
    3. I hate to cook, and I’m no good at it.

    3. I graduated high school last year and was recieved the highest overall achiever award 🙂

  24. HAHAHAH I was like going through this post and being like “I swear to god if Shannon doesn’t include me in this because I am not new or whatever I will THROW A FIT”. But LOOK AT THAT I am there! Yay. Ugh and Holly too. Why didn’t I make the search terms? You talk about me A LOT. Like in almost every single post it seems nowadays! I need to be more popular.

Did I tell you this is definitely one of my favorite posts of all time? Not because it includes me (though that does play a role), but because YOU HAVE ACHIEVED SO MUCH. AND WILL ACHIEVE TONS MORE. I’m so happy you decided to blog. Seriously, where would I be without you? I WOULD BE SAD. And wow I made my blog two months after you did! I keep forgetting you’ve been around for only 3 years instead of 10.

<3 <3 Never stop blogging and if you do I will hunt you down and steal your children.

And that’s awesome your post about comments got the most comments. i don’t think I’ve read that one, will stop by later. Got to love those search terms. I’ve had some recent search terms finding me when looking for Chef Lola. I do have recipe posts, but I don’t think I am the chef lola they were looking for, lol. I enjoyed reading your top 3 lists :).
And I like your blog how it is, so I don’t think there’s anything you need to change. Thanks for the giveaway!

  31. Hahaha, I was like, “Greg has a button? Or did she just make that?” and then I kept reading and that’s too funny.

Three things about ME??? That’s a terrible question! Because I’m sure there are lots, but of course as soon I’m instructed to share some I can’t think of any. Ok, ummm… 1) I love trying on and shopping for heels, but in reality I pretty much wear flip-flops all the time everywhere and hate wearing heels. 2) I have a scar in my hand and chin from a woodshop incident when I was in high school (it’s not as horrifying as it sounds). 3) I don’t have any pets, but sometimes I sit outside and pet the cats that live downstairs. Lol.

Anyway, happy blogoversary! Three years is awesome 🙂 Awesome lists and thanks for the giveaway!

Happy Blogoversary! I really enjoy your blog, I love the honesty and humor. So three things about me: 1.) Mornings are not my friend, even if I sleep for a reasonable amount of time, I just for whatever reason feel miserable until like noon. 2.)I used to strictly read classics and adult romances until Twilight came along and opened me up to the idea of giving something else a shot whether it’s an age group or genre that I wouldn’t have thought I’d be into, you never know if you’ll like something until you try it. 3.)I’m desperate to cut down on the number of TV shows I watch because it’s just too many, but it seems like every time I finally drop a show another one comes along that’s too good to resist.

  33. I still think it’s amazing that you won both Bookish Games and NaNoWriMo. GO YOU, SHANNON. YOU AMAZING PERSON.

Our Snark from the Ark posts will always be my fave. 😉 And I looooved your turning lemons into lemonade post!

omg I love that my name is one of the most searched terms on here omg

I love how you were able to name all of your favorite people in different categories! And also many of them are MY favorite people too, so we clearly have such good taste. 😀

I’m so, so forever grateful that blogging brought me you, and Val and Rashika and Amber and Sabrina and so many other people. But especially you because you are one of my favorite people in the universe and idk what my life was like before we became friends. SO HERE’S TO ANOTHER YEAR OF FRIENDSHIP AND YOUR FABULOUS BLOG!!

  34. <33 damn three years shannon!? That is so awesome, and it's even more inspiring to me that you've been active in producing quality content for three years 😮 LOL you know me and how even posting like once a month is quite the celebratory event so it really is remarkable to me how you've consistently produced quality content over the years. Furthermore it's always quite awesome to see how you've grown in general 🙂 You truly are a blogging inspiration of mine and you just kick ass! Even though my commenting abilities are quite lack luster, when I do find myself having free time I often find myself going through your blog. I love your impartial, critical and honest reviews, your creative and well written discussion posts and I cannot even begin to describe my complete adoration of your features- most notably Shattering Stigmas. I followed that event religiously this year, and it was not only well put together but it so importantly displayed the harsh realities of mental illness while representing it so accurately in a way that was also so supportive.

So to see me listed as one of your must read blogs? Omg what an honor. That means so much to me coming from you Shannon <33 I love you and this blog so much and cannot wait to see it continue to grow in its scope and content. I wish you all the best in the upcoming year and I know you're gonna kill it.

  35. SUCH a fun anniversary post and let me not forget to say HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I can honestly and easily say that you are one of my favorite blogs to read and I love and appreciate every post and every comment! You make it look easy but I know it’s not — to be focused and in the moment when you reading and commenting and writing !! But seriously, thank you so much for the past year and including me on this post! Thanks for reading my discussions and inspiring me to write and try discussion posts for this first time year! Congratulations on this significant achievement! This is such a content-rich and active blog — a great resource to readers and I’m sure just as great a demand on your own time and talents — thank you!

As for my response of three facts, I’ll go bookish:

It amuses me that you did everything in threes. I’m slightly obsessed with the number 3. I have to pet my cat three times. When I sing just for myself I have to sing 3 different songs from the same movie/musical/whatever. When I see cool statues or woodwork stuffs, I have to touch 3 different spots before moving on.

I’ve gotten a lot better about it over the years, but 3 is still a quirk of mine! *lol*
