A few times,I told you about the shows I watched. And it was fun, so I am going to do it again! I was super lucky that this was a really good batch overall. It probably helped that some of them were shows I already liked, but still!
So, a list of the shows I’ve been watching since whenever the hell the last post posted was!
Renewed for Second Season (2021)
This is another Greg-recommended show, and wow is it good! It’s only six episodes, so savor them, because this is so intense you kind of won’t be able to stop yourself from continuing. Basically, the premise is this: one of the characters finds out that there’s a huge problem in the way of some life-ending virus that appears with the sun. There are no survivors, there’s no way to beat the virus. The only plan? To literally outrun the sun.
Sure, that won’t be hard.
Of course, outrunning the actual sun is about as hard as it sounds. They’re okay at first because well, planes are fast. But obviously the plane needs to refuel, and it isn’t like grabbing gas in your car, and it’s made infinitely tricker because of the pesky apocalypse. The stakes are high, and tempers flare higher, and frankly I could not look away from the screen. The season ends on a fairly satisfying note, but you know there is more to this story!

Renewed for Season 2 (Post-Production)
Confession: I would never have even heard about this show, but the whole cast of The 100 got swag boxes from TNT which they posted on Instagram, and it got me curious. And when I found out that it contained both a coldpocalypse train and Daveed Diggs… well, sold, frankly. And look, at first the premise is a little weird because it’s a freakishly long train driving through unabating ice, but nope, it’s good!
Look I don’t understand the science, maybe it isn’t legit, but who cares the show is good.
Add to that (which in itself is brutal enough), there are some pretty gnarly faction wars among the train groups. The rich, of course, get to control everything and get crazy swanky quarters, while there is a group of folks who literally live in what seems like a cattle car at the end of the train without like, basic human necessities. And then, the classes in between. You can imagine how all this shakes out: Gloriously dramatically. Oh, and brutally, of course.

Final Season
I talked about S1 of Dark here, and I loved it. S2 was good, maybe not quite as good, but good. Season 3… I don’t know, I have the Mixed Feelings™, I guess. The first couple episodes of the third season were, to me, kind of dull? And frankly, perhaps overly convoluted. But then it picked up! And I was starting to get really excited about how it would all turn out!
Okay, I’ll bite.
But then… so in the penultimate episode, I suddenly had an actual epiphany, and I knew how it was going to end. Like I just knew, for certain. And I hated it. And I turned out to be right. Here’s the thing: even though the ending pissed me off endlessly, most people seemed to really like it and found it quite fitting! So I mean, don’t take my word for it! And the rest of the show is worth watching, so.

Renewed for Season 3 (Scheduled Winter 2021)
Idk how or why I even started watching this, but I did, and then I fell in love completely. So, it seems at first like it’s a bit hokey maybe? Beth had mentioned being worried that it was overly religious, because they do mention Bible verses and such in the first couple of episodes. But I promised her (and now I’ll promise you) that it’s not! They use the Bible verses as part theory, and part to connect to a deceased character, but they also explore tons of other theories (including other religions, and like, I need to know!

But the real heart of the show is the relationships, especially the familial ties. Oh, there is just so much heart in this show! And the characters want nothing more than to just help people and be with the ones they love. So it’s kind of wholesome, even though all kinds of messed up junk is going down!

Final Seasons
So, I liked Season 1 of this, because it was like a breath of fresh air. It’s dark, but it’s funny and silly and dark. As it turns out, I don’t do well with straight up fluff, but I can do dark humor for a respite from sobbing my face off over some show! And also, Josh Hutcherson. And the next two seasons did not disappoint!
It’s hilarious, but it’s also messed up and features time travel and excitement! The characters are fabulous. At first they come off as a bit of caricatures, but by the end you fall completely in love, and they’ve become so well developed. And there are some really interesting tetherball games with Abe Lincoln, so. Also, the end? Kind of perfect!

35 Seasons, Renewed for Season 36 (2021)
This show and I go wayyy back. To 1998, in fact. I was a huge Real World/Road Rules fan from way back (legit I started watching in San Francisco, which aired in 1994, so). And as I love a competition, I was here for the transition to The Challenges. This one was pretty intense, it took place in a bunker instead of a luxury mansion, and two of the most notorious enemies teamed up as allies!
This season there was a twist: Everyone had to compete in an elimination in order to make it to the final. I was here for it, I hate when people coast to the end, while others see 10 eliminations. Then there was a big issue when one of the cast members posted disparaging and racist remarks at the start of the protests over the death of George Floyd. When called out, instead of apologizing, she doubled down on the hate. Production decided to sever ties with her (which I wholly applaud) and edited out as many of her scenes as possible! It was impressive, frankly.
Then there was the usual drama of hookups, breakups, fights, drunken shenanigans… I just love it! And the competition itself was great, as always!
Legit me watching every episode.

Final Season
I talked about the first season here, but I definitely think this one has gotten better every season. I mean, okay, we may not get to stay in the bunker forever, but the outside world is more fun anyway! I think this wrapped up very well, and I shed a tear or fifty, no question. And I did grow to care about the characters a lot, even though it was so clear that they were modeling the lead after Clarke- she even had the same haircut this season.

The ending was definitely satisfying, if a little hokey. Also Idk where this was filmed, it’s a Dutch show so I guess The Netherlands somewhere, but wow, it is beautiful. Even in the apocalypse.

Final season
I liked the first season of 3%. Then I liked the second season more, and the third season even more than that. The fourth season? I fell totally and completely in love with this show. It’s morally gray beyond words, and the characters have to make some truly abhorrent decisions. The stakes are crazy high, of course, as is always the case at the end of days. And while I don’t want to say too much because I want you to watch it, each group thinks that their way is what is best for the whole- which sounds eerily and awfully familiar.

This last season though… wow, does it deliver. I was on the edge of my seat for real, not knowing how it would turn out. The feels were out of control. And I just loved the characters so much that I was high key devastated to let them go, which is great considering I have to do the same with The 100 in a few weeks.
Again, I feel!
And the finale? Beyond satisfying! I put this show up there with 12 Monkeys as not only one of my all-time favorites, but best-ever finales. It. Was. Perfect.

I haven’t seen any of these. The only new shows I’ve watched were Stargirl which was good but not great and Motherland Fort Salem, which was weird. (Dystopian YA with witches.)
I see commercials for Stargirl every time I watch The 100, and it seems a little cheesy hah. Motherland Fort Salem DOES sound weird- like dystopian witches, really!? I am kind of curious though, so if I am desperate, I will give it a go!
Stargirl is very cheesy! ? And Yes Motherland is an only if you’re desperate sort of show. (Though I watched the whole thing.) Episode 3 sucks. They had to throw in an entire episode of sex. ?♂️
Here you go now lowing up my watch list, as well. 😀 So 3% is better than The Rain? I need to stick to one dystopian post-apoc show at a time, I think.
Bwhahha yeah- and since they are both subtitle shows, I’d DEFINITELY stick with one. Though every season when I am done with 3%, I pretend to know Portuguese, so there’s that! I definitely recommend 3%, it’s fabulous, and it gets better every season, really. The Rain is good, but a little… easier, shall we say. It’s a quick watch though (3 seasons with I think only 6 episodes a season), so depending on what you’re up for!
Into the Night is the BOMB. But then you already know my feelings on that show haha. And Snowpiercer looks s good. Cannibals????
I’m in the middle of The Rain right now, and I agree- the show gets better every season. I’m bummed this one is gonna be done, actually. I stared S3 of 3% last night too, and so far so good. As good as 12 Monkeys? Wow now I can’t wait to get to seaso 4!!!
I have been trying to get you to watch Snowpiercer for ages! Though I wonder if it is streaming anywhere yet? I think it is free without login on TNT too though.
And YES yes I fell in love with S4. Like- for me every season of 3% got much better than the one before it. Like S1 was okay, S2 I really started to get into it, but I was addicted by S3 and S4 just blew me away. Apparently, the creator has another show on Netflix… Omniscient or something? So I will probably try that after Away!

YESSS omg that made me so mad! I probably should have included that here, now that you mention it. The irony was they never explained ANYTHING about the villain! Like- it was part of why I hated the ending, frankly! The villain seemed almost unnecessary, and then they had to use a kid with a craniofacial defect? REALLY?!!
We watched The Rain and I was satisfied with the ending too. Except for a character dying. I’m not over it.
I’ve heard Dark is amazing and that first one sounds great! I liked Snowpiercer the movie but I fell asleep during the show so I don’t know if that’s me being tired or the show sucked lol
We watched Umbrella Academy S2, The Boys S2, and now Away.

Dark is SO good, except the ending irked me- and the whole “villain” of S3, which is a whole thing (see my reply to Amber above you if you’re curious)
I am watching Away too and omg I LOVE IT! I will have to try Umbrella Academy, everyone RAVES! I will say for Snowpiercer, the first episode I was a little meh about. But I read good things about the rest of it and the premise was interesting enough that I kept going and got really into it!
I know Snowpiercer was first a movie. I kept seeing previews for the show and it looked good. I was recommended Dark recently, so it’s something I DO hope to check out soon. I also want to watch Future Man now that my sister has Hulu. She didn’t when it first came out, so I gotta get caught up. I’m so bad at keeping up with shows.
Have you watched Dead to Me on Netflix? I loved the first season, and the second is out now but I still need to watch it. You know, story of my life here.

Future Man is just such FUN and like, a breath of fresh air when you’re ready to throw rocks through your TV ?

I’m watching The Untamed, which is a chinese wuxia fantasy show with gorgeous costumes and a disaster boy, and Lucifer which is just barrels of fun. I’m really tempted by Snowpiercer I’ve seen it around a lot but it seems a bit too gory for me. Though, Daveed Diggs … I loved him in Hamilton and narrating The Deep.
