Ah, my heart is full as we’ve just completed another fabulous Conageddon weekend. This, the fourth time for the Con, was my second, and it absolutely lived up to- and even exceeded, frankly- its predecessor. Here’s the thing you need to know about The 100: yes, the show is amazing, and stands up after multiple viewings (as long as you change the ending to suit your needs of course) and has amazing themes and characters. But that is not what makes the fandom so special. No, it’s the people. The cast is truly the best cast ever assembled. And that is not just because I love the show! No, it is because the cast is so wonderful that the show owns my heart. And the fans and all the people who make the con happen, it’s just a whole entire labor of love from the cast on down.
There were fourteen cast members of The 100 in attendance. 14! I don’t think that has ever happened anywhere before, and for it to happen four years after the thing ended is pretty damn special. I had not met Marie, Shelby, Lola, or Erica before. Meeting Marie was life goals for sure, and I am so glad I got to meet the others, too! I did Luisa’s VIP and she was absolutely as lovely and kind as I’d expected.
Frankly, I haven’t a clue how I am supposed to narrow it all down! So I figure, have some videos, have some pictures, have some fun anecdotes, and sign the petition book your tickets* for Conageddon 5!
Parties and Panels and Such
★ Zach feels really bad about Roan allowing Fake Baylis to be microwaved. Like, this might keep him awake at night, he is very pissed at Roan. (Don’t tell him, but I actually stand by the decision- they were trying to save humanity, Zach!)
★ One thing that Chris took from set was his chairback that said “Chritopher Larkin”. Why did it say that? Printing error? No. Because his actual legal name is Chritopher. Mistakes were made.
★ Speaking of Chris, he was trying to unload the Chronicles of Narnia series all weekend! Apparently he managed to, because fans will take anything. Honestly I don’t blame him, I found them dull too (I only read the first one but my opinion stands). He also had 4 ring pops, and I daresay those were a much hotter commodity.
★ Chelsey had a hilarious story to tell about her and Chris’s last days playing Marper:
★ Thomas still knows perilously little about the series. He found out this weekend that the gang had traveled to different planets, and he thought it would have been fun for Finn to do that. He was, however, very proud to tell Bob that Bellamy was shot, which he found out last Con.
★ A girl got up and told Marie that she was her husband’s “hall pass”… and he was so excited to meet her that he didn’t sleep, and ended up falling asleep before the panel. Marie hilariously called him out. “Hey Matt Anderson, I’m your hall pass and you’re napping?!” 😂
★ A fan had a theory that Monty’s alage saved the Earth (hence why it was so green when they came back in S7). I dig it! Chris had no idea they went back to Earth, but he liked the theory.
★ Zach began the chant for Conageddon 5… and then apparently went crowd surfing. He also explained why we are all going to die:
★ Bob really enjoyed the episode Etherea, when he was “off on my special planet with my boyfriend”. He also really liked Bellamy seeing Aurora again, and that he felt it gave the character some closure, and that Bellamy was able to forgive himself finally.
★ A fan pointed out that on the show, the patriarchy had basically been dismantled, and for all the violence and darkness, the show never featured a sexual assault or rape. I had never thought of it, and my mind was blown, because she is so right. She said that she loved that she never had to wonder whether they were going to “go there” when she watched, which is really remarkable. I hate giving kudos to Jason but… kudos to him, and everyone involved frankly. Speaking of the badass women on the show…. have a video!
★ Bob, as always, was incredibly open and honest about his mental health struggles, and how he works through the hard times. One of these days, I will tell him how much that means to me (I have, historically, been too afraid I’d start to sob). Not only was Bob super open about his struggles, but Chelsey talked a lot about hers too, and various others alluded to it as well. They are over here shattering stigmas and I love them for it.
★ Speaking of mental health, there was a question about how mental health and suicide was handled on the show. Bob and Eliza said that had the show been filming now, it likely would have been handled better, because there is more awareness, but at the time there just wasn’t as much support on set in terms of mental health. Not just on The 100, but the industry as a whole, and luckily, it has made great strides.
★ When asked what character he’d like to play if not Finn, Thomas said “a fun character like Jasper. What happened to him?” and he had to be told that Jasper unalived himself after starting a suicide cult. Then he was informed about The Dark Year.
★ I chatted with Sara a bit about One of Us is Lying, and how rude it was that it was canceled.
★ Bob and Marie reuniting was beautiful. The love they have for each other really is much like Bellamy and Octavia, frankly- except a little less dysfunctional and a lot less murdery. You should really check out some of their panel. I also did a Bob and Marie meet and greet, and seeing them interact warmed my heart so much. They told stories, reminisced, and just seem to have such a genuinely lovely bond. Here, have a video I made to get in your feels like I am!
★ Marie talked about how hard filming Lincoln’s death scene was, but not for the reason you’d think. Ricky actually wasn’t on set that day, as they’d filmed his and Mike’s scene earlier, so Marie had to break down crying at a pole with an X on it to show where the scene would be. She was so worried she wouldn’t do it justice (I think we can all agree that she freaking nailed it.) Bob mentioned that they did have him try to carry Ricky out to give Lincoln’s body to O, but Ricky is a huge dude and that was a lot of dead weight!
★ Chelsey’s favorite “costume” of Harper’s was the fake butt she got to wear when she was being drilled in Mt. Weather. She is salty that she did not get to keep it.
★ Bob and Zach are starring in a Western, hopefully we’ll get to see it soon!
★ Bob made so many amazing points about fatherhood and raising a son, I am literally bookmarking his solo panel to show to my own son, because it is so important, and I love that he is such an amazing role model. (Also their family in general is just so beautiful and loving, they are clearly amazing parents.) I will take this time to plug my Bellarke video!
★ Thomas said his favorite thing about the con was meeting newer cast like Shelby and Sara, because he not only didn’t know them, he didn’t even know about them, in typical hilarious Thomas fashion.
★ When asked whether their characters were villains, Erica said “absolutely” and Sara said she doesn’t understand why people think Josephine is bad. She said “I get it, you guys love Clarke. I don’t.” Sara and Erica both thought they would be the one who would win in a mindspace battle.
★ Sara’s mom was a fan of the show because she adored Richard, so when Sara had no idea what was happening, she’d call her mom for context.
★ In fact, there was much gushing about Richard, from fans and cast alike. He was certainly missed, no one book him for a job next time or I’m suing.
★ Chelsey is in an episode of Fargo, and her favorite part was getting punched in the face by Jon Hamm.
★ Jo asked Chelsey if Harper kept her name or changed it to Green. Chelsey said Harper kept her name (my kind of woman) and in fact Monty took hers heh. Speaking of those guys, you know I need to plug another video!
★ Chelsey was supposed to die a “violent puking death” and only be in one episode, and she practiced vomiting to death in her trailer. Only the day ended and they didn’t kill her, and the rest is history!
★ Tasya talked about the new play she is doing… and some of The 100 cast might be joining her! And it is in Manhattan, so you know my ass will be there. What is it called, you ask? The Motherfucker With the Hat. Sold.
★ A fan floated the idea of a rewatch podcast, since half the cast never saw the final season(s) and a lot of people forgot stuff that happened. Everyone seemed down, and frankly, I would not miss it.
★ Marie really wants Bob and Eliza to have another kid, and told him “he needs to get a girl next” 😂
★ Marie had a ton of fun doing “We’re Back, Bitches!”, but this one was my favorite:
★ Tasya accidentally actually stabbed that dude she killed in Bardo with the M-Cap. Just a little bit. She also said that was the most intensely emotional scene she filmed.
★ Erica tried to make ALIE pick up little human behaviors and quirks as the character progressed. She said that to her, it would have made sense for this very intelligent being to be able to emulate cues, especially as her time around humans increased. Time for another rewatch, methinks!
★ Lola had Covid while filming the final scenes where she is catatonic, and Eliza had no idea.
★ Eliza said that she and Tati were told at the start of S7 that there would be a Clarke/Gaia romance at some point, and they had played the scenes at the start of the season as such, but then it just… never came to be. (Which I am glad about, it just never worked for me, frankly.)
★ Lola is starting college in the fall, and plans on studying pre-law.
★ And we will end on this note, with an adorable and magical child asking the cast what their favorite color is!

The funny part is, she NAILED IT. It was hands down one of the most gut wrenching scenes of the series, and I was floored to hear that is how she had to do it! Talk about acting chops!

I enjoyed the first season of the show, then I got a little bored? I don’t know. I probably was on my phone instead of watching, lol. I will disagree with you about the Chronicles of Narnia too, lol. This sounds so awesome! If I could afford it, they have a huge convention here in my town for Outlander, but since I can’t afford the best tickets to get to meet the biggest stars (and the two main characters aren’t there) I will save my money for now. Thank you for sharing all of this, I’m glad you were able to enjoy it! Another thing like this I’d love to go to is the ones I’ve seen for Supernatural or The Walking Dead. Sounds like you had such a blast!

I very much love the shattering of stigmas, and the fact that the cast feel comfortable enough with this community of fans to share such deeply personal information. I’m also happy to hear that mental health awareness and care is being taken more seriously in the industry.
And yes, I think aiming to attend ConaGeddon 5 will be a new health goal for me. Gotta get stable enough to go. In March again, I presume? As soon as the date is announced, I can tell my docs and we can ensure a coordinated effort. 🙂 Also, by then my finances will be set, one way or another, which will make it less stressful and easier to actually get a package, in addition to a ticket. My fingers are crossed that they have many of the cast again!
Did it feel anticlimactic for the cast, do you think, that they made an extra turnout for the presumably last one, but it isn’t the last one after all? Hrm….
And yes, I need to rewatch. If I was able to watch an episode a night (which itself would be a feat, but hey goals), I think I could binge it straight through from December 2nd. Would you be willing to hold me accountable weekly or something?
