Welcome to January’s Monthly Minutes at Midnight!
Here’s the deal: I’ll share the books I’ve obtained, posts of interest from others, giveaways I have happening, and just general random shenanigans. You know I love a shenanigan. Also, covers all link to Goodreads, because I am awesome. As always, I link up with the Wrap Up Round Up, too!

Fancy & New Since Last I Saw You!
I love looking at pretty covers! So here are some new ones that I have fallen in love with since our last update!
Pretty covers are pretty.
Things we need to talk about at this juncture:
- We have a new president, friends! The relief, it is real. The work is far from done, but we are absolutely allowed to celebrate and feel a lifted weight, at least.
- The 100 Bookish Games are happening! So far, not much is going my way, but the lovely Inge reminded me that very few things pan out the way the gamemakers hope, so I keep repeating that mantra to myself ?
- If anyone is interested, I am looking for a new co-host for the Monthly Book Giveaway! If you feel like it, it’s pretty easy, and brings plenty of new readers, just let me know!
Meet Me in Another Life sounds super interesting. What a concept. And yes, the relief since January 20th is a very real thing. It’s not like any of the issues magically resolved. But having a decent and sane person at the helm sure helps! 🙂
Exactly, I could not agree more! It’ll be a long road, but having grown ups in charge at least means we don’t have to wake up every day bracing for the worst!
Congrats on reading 16 books! I’m glad most of them were fabulous. You read a bunch that I’ll hopefully get to someday. Have a great February!
Aw thank you! Hope you are having a great February too!
Sixteen books! Great reading month for you. Under the Whispering Door not only sounds exciting to read, but the cover is one I’d frame and put up in my kitchen where I spend so much of my time these days. Yes to a new president that cares about more than his ego.
Aw thanks! And yes, doesn’t it!? I love the cover AND the sound of it! Ugh right? Like just knowing he will do his job is enough to help us sleep at night!
Well, TBG is *fun* even if it isn’t going as planned. 😀
Thanks for the continued highlighting of books I haven’t heard of but neeeeed on my shelves and in my life.
Bwhahah it IS fun, and endlessly entertaining! And you’re welcome (or sorry, they’re probably both fitting ?)
“just whoops” <- HA! You crack me up. That is quite a haul. I read both Prepped and Some Other Now this past week and they were fantastic! This Is Not the Jess Show was great for me too. I am eager to see your thoughts on them
Aw thanks! I loved the Jess Show too, and I liked Prepped, and LOVED loved love Some Other Now. I need to review it soon! So glad you loved them too!
I love that cover for where Secret Lie! and How To Mars. So many good books coming- new Courtney Summers and The swimmers looks like a trip!
The Bookish Games are so wild right now.
Thanks for sharing my post. 🙂
Seriously, there are too many books, and my biggest problem is, I pretend that it’s plausible to read them all, hah ?
I was just looking at The Devil Makes Three on BD and wondering if I should preorder ??? I am keen for that blurb let me say. (I hope you like it!!) And those new covers are stunning ?
I have a real problem where I think it’s appropriate to pre-order EVERYTHING so I mean, sure! ?
I feel like YA covers are increasingly getting more stunning – not complaining at all! Infinity Courts is one of my most anticipated books, I hope you enjoy it – looking forward to hear what you think.
Totally agree, they are GORGEOUS, and of course, it makes me want them all! I hope you enjoy it too!
Thank you so much for including our article: 30 Queer Books for 2021! That post was so much fun to put together and a couple of the new releases are add-on books with the Book of the Month Club this week!
Aw of course, it was wonderful to read!
Whoo – yay for a great reading month. Can’t wait to see what you think of them all. If you need a co-host for the monthly book giveaway still, let me know.
-Lauren
OH I definitely do! I will reach out ASAP, thank you!! ♥♥
Well, what a host of books, and not one among them I have seen before. You read well during the month, just as well with all those newcomers arriving. Yes January was great because a new start in the White House. I don’t live in the USA but follow it with interest. Well who wouldn’t, such drama!!
I can imagine- the world must think we’re completely bananas, and I cannot blame any of you, frankly! Plus, it’s scary when you hear of upheaval in general- I am just glad we finally did the right thing!
The Infinity Courts, The Electric Kingdom and Game Chager are on my list, so I’m looking forward to your thoughts!
The Gilded Ones is on my to-read list.
You got some great new books last month! And read a lot of good ones it looks like too. I hope to get more read in February than I did in January, although that may be a loss since it is a shorter month. lol

Ah these book covers all look fantastic, I feel like every year they get more stunning!
Thank you so, so much for sharing my post Shannon, so happy you enjoyed it <3 I hope February will be kind to you <3
Thanks so much for mentioning both mine and Chana’s posts! It’s kind of strange going through these older posts and commenting on them, since so many of these books have already come out, when their covers were announced just a few months ago! (Also, you will be seeing a lot of me on wrap ups as I catch up to date. Ooops.)
