The 100 Episode 4×07: Gimme Shelter

Just a reminder, spoilers galore!!

I found Gimme Shelter to be a pretty solid episode as a whole. I loved the character development. So much. There were a lot of emotions at the forefront of this one, and I liked that we got to see some of the feelings behind some of the more “minor” characters, like Harper and Emori. I was so glad Harper finally got a bit of an in depth storyline.

Also. I had surgery on Friday so if I am behind on stuff.. that’s why. I’ll catch up someday 😉 I also promised myself I would make fewer GIFs because I am a mess. So there you have it. Onward!

Gimme Shelter (In Our Underwear)

Because if you don’t I shall literally die from black rain. Yeah, this was… I felt like it was “the little boy who cried black rain”. Like how many times have they screamed “GAH black rain, everyone inside!” so far this season? But apparently, the people still buy it because they did run inside like good little boys and girls when Dad Kane says to run.

The first thing one does when getting inside from the black rain is… strip down to their underwear. Look, I know this was a ploy on the part of The CW for us to all see some beautiful people sans clothes. And I am down with that. Nothing wrong with the ocassional underwear scene, if it fits the plot. And how often can a show say that an underwear scene fits the plot? Almost never, so kudos for jumping on it, really.

Throwing in some extra Harper for Greg, since it isn’t every day she’s in her underwear 😉

Octavia on the Run

Ilian following O through the woods was… strange. I mean, someone almost shoots me then doesn’t, I am probs not going to stalk them through the forest. But Ilian hasn’t really been known for his top notch decision making, so here we are. The black rain starts, so they make it to a cave. I keep wondering where all these caves come from, but then again, I don’t frolic through the woods on the regular so maybe there are caves all over the place?

Anyway, she isn’t exactly tickled to be stuck in a cave with Ilian, but frankly, Octavia isn’t tickled to be most places these days. She is really hurting. And she lets Ilian tell her about what happened to him before he left home, and that just… sparked something in her. The pain, I think, was just overwhelming. So she’s decided to be… done. And Ilian, thankfully, decided that was a bad idea.

Thanks there, Ilian.

But poor O, she is just so messed up. I do not like what happens next. I don’t. I think she is not ready, and I feel like it is something she will regret. And I wish Ilian would have put the kibosh on this too. I swear if they try to shove an actual romance down our throats, I will scream.

I just think she is wayyy too broken for these shenanigans right now.

And then the storm ends, and I don’t know what this is supposed to be leading to, but I have said it once and I will say it again: No on the romance!

Throwing away weapons and taking boys home? Not so sure about this…

Coming to Terms With Who They Now Must Be

I felt like this episode wasn’t really as plot heavy as We Will Rise, which was good- this one was character driven, and it wasn’t just the usual characters’ stories we were seeing into. I approve. Bellamy is having a breakdown because he cannot save Octavia because he has no idea where he is. So then when he hears that some dudes named Mark and Peter are stuck at Factory Station, he figures he must be able to save someone. Of course, he nearly gets himself killed several times over in the process, but he just cannot give up on the idea of not losing any more people. It is heartbreaking, because of course, he has no control. And eventually, when the Rover gets stuck in the mud, he is forced to come to terms with that.

Poor Bellamy is just gutted by this. He and Kane talk again, about how he cannot save Octavia if she doesn’t want to be saved. Kane says his mother would have been proud of the man he’s become, and Bellamy helpfully reminds Kane that he floated the aforementioned mother. When he finally gets back after the storm, he is just so completely lost and broken.

Ouch.

Harper… is having a different struggle. See, this dude whose name is apparently Louis (thanks, Wiki!) grabs at Harper as they are running in from the rain. From the looks of it, he is trying to rip the actual clothes off her back, and she shrugs him off, and he falls. Of course, this leaves him trampled in the acid rain.

I don’t think this was her fault at all- this Louis character was just going to hurt her, IMO. But she feels completely responsible for his demise. Bellamy and Kane bring him back into the Ark, and Harper cares for him until the end, but it is just eating her up. I get why she feels the way she does, but I really think she doesn’t deserve to, and I wish Kane had told her as much.

Or how about “Harper, he was basically going to kill you if you didn’t push back.” ?

Kane was basically everyone’s dad/counselor this episode. Instead of an office with a couch, he had a radio and some really shitty advice.

Sacrificial Lamb

So Raven is sleeping off the seizure/knowledge that she will never be a space cowboy, and Abby is trying to come up with an alternate plan. Clarke comes in, and she is so happy to see her mom, and this literally makes my life. Could this be any more authentic and honest? I don’t care how old you are, whether it is the apocalypse or some shitty Tuesday, sometimes you just need your mom! This is probably my all time favorite Abby-Clarke moment.

Then they start talking about how Luna’s bone marrow might be able to help. And here is where I get confused. Holly summed it up way better than I could have:

I’m a little confused with the bone marrow treatment because isn’t that like with Mt. Weather? And wouldn’t they have to kill Luna to save the most people? They wouldn’t be able to even save that many that way, I thought.

Right? How would that help? What did they say in Mt Weather, seven treatments per delinquent, and then they’d be dead? And far as I can tell, no one is planning to kill Luna to save seven people so… But anyway, I don’t think this is going to work anyway so I guess we shouldn’t worry about it.

Abby is shaking all over the place and is kind of worrying me. And she is also having a lot of difficulties with the ethics of this, but I feel like it is a no-brainer, essentially. Like, if you don’t try, everyone will die anyway so…. might as well give it a shot! Of course how that all ends up working out is a whole other story. Anyway, Clarke agrees with me, and frankly, her advice seemed way more helpful than Kane’s whole “we will rediscover our humanity” or whatever.

But don’t worry, it’s only Episode 7, no way this works.

Welcome to the Mansion, We’ve Got Food and Fluff

Sing along to the tune of “Welcome to the Jungle”, please and thank you. Okay seriously, this mansion? Where is it, and how do I get a day pass? Did you see that pool? Holy crap. And the inside is just as glorious. Here we are treated to a delighful little scene of a domesticated Murphy. And I am sorry, but there is nothing I love more on this show than a little normalcy, and when it comes with some witty Murphy-isms? Glorious. Absolutely glorious.

This was fun. Now Clarke does exactly what I would have done: Takes a shower and climbs into the fluffy bed.

Sadly, naptime does not last. Because someone named (supposedly) Bayliss comes into the house to steal food. Now, this shit has been abandoned for 98 years, and “Bayliss” picks the day that it is lit up like a Christmas tree to ransack it? I mean, look, not saying he deserves to die but… Darwin says otherwise.

Emori freaks out claming that this man enslaved her and her brother, hurt them, and alluded to a lot of other abuse. It was heartbreaking to watch. She and Clarke have a talk about it, in which she tells Clarke that Clarke can never understand her pain, because Clarke was loved while Emori was thrown out like she was trash. I felt so sad for her in that moment. So before Emori can kill “Bayliss”, Clarke says that he could be just what they need to test this Luna bone marrow thing. Olé!

Everyone agrees with this, and it’s all happening. Everyone wants him to live because they can live, and Murphy checks in with Emori to see how she feels about this, since this dude attacked her and such.

HOLD. UP.

Look, I get Emori’s paranoia, but no one was ever going to put her in the damn radiation chamber against her will. Ever. And I don’t know what this says about her as a character. I mean, while I do get it, the coldness in which she does it seems… sociopathic, really. Will they find out that this was just some really dumb burglar? What happens if the actual bad guys show up? Are there actual bad guys? Someone help. Abby will lose her shit when she finds out she just killed this guy who is not Emori’s assaulter and also when she can’t save the human race.

What’s with all the dead randos?

A lot of people bit it in this episode, but they were all absolutely random people, whom I gave zero fucks about. So that was weird. I mean, look, I am not saying that they should have let someone we love die out in the damn black rain, but who the fuck were Mark and Peter? Like really? I would have cared a lot more about it if it were… Riley. Why couldn’t they have had Riley die out there? For so many reasons, really. And the burglar who is certainly going to die in God Complex? Really? There was no one they could have sacrificed that we had heard of before? I was betting on Five Year Old Dad too. I mean, anyone we had heard of.

God Complex

I think that this title has a double meaning, as so many of them do. I think it is God Complex, as in, everyone will accuse Clarke of having one. I think it will also mean God, Complex as in “God is complex”, as Jaha searches for Cult Soup Bunker. That’s right everyone, Cult Soup Bunker is soooo coming back! As is Gaia (and the flame, I assume, though I have no idea what good it’ll do).

Also, a bit of sadness, there seems to be a 4 week break happening after God Complex. I don’t approve, but no one asked me though. I have a theory though! I think that there may have been a few scenes that were taped in the event that there was no Season 5 renewal? And some if there was? And now that they know the fate, they need time to throw it all together? Just my theory anyway.

Did you have all the tears too? And even more tears about the stupid 4 week hiatus? Good news though, that gives Nerdkru time to get ourselves together for a chat and some other fun!

  1. Surgery! Wow hope you’re feeling better and all is well. I liked this one too – a lot. In spite of hyperactive stripping and dousing down with water lol which I couldn’t stop laughing, I’m sorry. You’re right- it’s SO CW but hey they can get away with it, because story reasons *nods approvingly* And YES- thank you! Re: Harper. I mean I’m human- and full props to Chelsey Reist. Girl has abs. Okay moving on. Yes there appear to be caves everywhere. And conveniently it has a nice pool of water too. Yay! You know the minute they stripped down I was like, no. they aren’t doing this. They did. I think as soon as they intro’d Ilian he was gonna be w/ someone, but I really didn’t think they’d do this. I actually think they might have an on-again, off-again relationship. I’m so conflicted. I mean on the one hand it was nice to see her vulnerable again but at the same time I LIKE badass ninja Octavia. So… yeah. Crazy times.

Bellamy was well done. And heartrending to see him helpless and having to listen to those guys. Plus Kane. Kane and Bellamy have so much potential together, complicated by that little detail of Kane having floated his mom. Is there anyone Jaha and previously-bad- Kane didn’t float for cripes sakes??? And I agree about Harper. It’s all chaos and the guy is grabbing her, of course she shrugged that off. she might have been the one trampled otherwise. Better him than her lol. I also don’t think she should take sole responsibility- I mean it’s not like anyone ELSE stopped to help the guy either! If you’re actually stepping on someone do you stop and help , or keep running? Keep running naturally. 🙂 And he shouldn’t have been so grabby!

That Clarke/ Abby moment WAS priceless. And this blood marrow thing. Holly’s right, it’s all bullshit. This show… sigh. Every week it’s some new horseshit, just get on with Cult Soup. Good grief already. They’re playing fast and loose with all this stuff. And that pool. I would have went for a swim. I thought at first the house was the mansion we saw last season- but is it? I’m not sure! Becca/ ALIE/ whoever lived nice though! Look at that frickin bedroom! Who’s cleanin the place? It’s spotless.

Emori and Murphy are … cold. You’re right about Abby too. Not only is Emori cold as ice (I guess we know that about her now) but it’s a shitty thing to do to Abby. Manipulative as hell. This won’t endear Em and Murph to the rest if they find out. I kinda wondered too how “Bayliss” got to this place with all the drones around. Isn’t that the point of the drones? And were there more with him? I didn’t think anyone was living on this island, but who knows? Doesn’t really matter, he’s just a plot point lol.

Too bad FYOD guy wasn’t trampled. Or Riley. Agree with you there. We could have been rid of him. And I like your idea about God Complex! A 4 week hiatus though- dang that’s long. I definitely think you guys need to do a Nerdkru chat to tide us over. 🙂

    • Thanks! I am doing… moderately better hahha. Good enough to at least get this post together, anyway 😉 And seriously, Chelsey is RIPPED. Her muscles have muscles. I am impressed! Also, why did they ALL have black underwear with a seemingly very appropriate level of… lycra? I mean, wouldn’t post-apocalyptic underwear… well, LOOK like post-apocalyptic underwear? Guess that is the only brand sold at Niylah’s General Store ?And good point with the water in the cave too! Like “I’m going to go wash my horse from this random clean pool of water in this cave we just happened upon”. Side eye. And I agree, I figured Ilian was romantic fodder for someone, but I REALLY didn’t want it to be O. And I am salty.

And I feel like Bellamy was a little unfair to Kane considering Kane didn’t technically float his mom, Jaha did. But I get being pissed. I love their interactions. I seriously think Kane pretends he is their dad. Like, that is the narrative he tells himself when no one else is around ?

Harper had every right to run! I get why she feels bad but… she needn’t take that all on her own shoulders. Dude was dumb, plus we didn’t know his name so of COURSE he was going to die. Someone needs to fill Harper in on how this show works.

The bone marrow thing IS stupid. I am not here for that. They’re just going to kill Fake Bayliss, Abby is going to cry and then probs have a seizure, Raven is going to try to be a space cowboy again, and if Emori gets found out…. shit, I cannot imagine that will end well for her. And Jaha will go on a ride to see about some Cult Soup again. Finally!

I think Fake Bayliss got through because Jackson took the drones down when Emori radioed that they were heading into the mansion? But I could be wrong. Either way, Fake Bayliss was dumb. But you KNOW they are going to find out he is fake. I wonder if they banish Emori? Did Murphy have that scene where he freaks out at Clarke yet? I bet that has to do with Emori. Which Idk if I even mind because I am pissed at her. To use THAT kind of a story to gain sympathy… it’s just not cool. Plus no one will trust her now, of course.

And we will definitely do a chat! And something else I think. Because 4 weeks!!? Noooo. I am excited for this week though. Something good (and by good, I mean BIG) better happen before they send us into horrible waiting!

      • Chelsey IS ripped. I had no idea. When they first showed her indoors they kinda did a close up and the girl has serious abs. Although yeah- nice underthings. Thank GOD they have Niylah’s joint to keep them in Lycra… but was that scene just unintentionally hilarious or what? I busted out laughing, couldn’t help it. And yes it wasn’t Harper’s fault about dumb guy. why was he grabbing at her anyway? Just run dude lol. And then he fails down in the mud and starts wailing. I was just like- shut uppp!!! Isn’t that awful that I laughed a bit? Frickin redshirts…

Kane SO thinks about them in father terms, I think you’re right. He’s like mentor unit now. Especially to Bell? They do play off each other really well. That’s a relationship I’d love to see grow. That one and also him and Indra, obvs. Who is apparently not playing much of a role this season DAMMIT!

You know I kinda excused Emori as a thief because you know, Grounders are shifty anyway and it’s a post apoc wasteland, but this latest stunt… yeah she’s cold. Don’t turn you back on her sheesh. Murphy better watch his shit. And I’m really mad that she’s playing Abby and Clarke (everyone really) like that. Not cool bitch. She needs to go down.

I thought I saw something this week (wish I would have read it closely) about Raven and Luna??? AS a thing. Have you heard about that? And where will O go after dropping off Ilian at his farm? She’s not going to play farmer with him is she? Ye gads…

        • Okay yes, you have TOTALLY nailed my feelings about Emori! I didn’t care that she stole shit- she was banished for goodness sake! Even when she tricked people in the name of survival, okay, I feel her. But these people have done nothing but help her, and I get that habits are hard to break, but she had ZERO empathy. Even Murphy doesn’t do that!

Indra is clearly busy manufacturing all the lycra undergarments. It’s the only explanation ? But seriously, she is needed, come back to usssss! (Oh, and yes, I definitely laughed at the scrubbing and freaking out in their underwear bwahah)

And YEP about Louis. Why are these redshirts SO extra dumb? I also wonder if there’s something about Kane’s past that has him so protective of Bellamy ? Like a backstory there…

I didn’t hear about Raven and Luna, but I am down for it! I know a LOT of people want it to happen and then others hate on it (though idk why, what’s wrong with them being together?) And I swear, if O goes to play on the farm with Ilian and his stupid sheep…. I will SCREAM.

          • Yup I feel like the Emori reveal came sorta outta nowhere so was it just a one episode twist or will it have further ramifications? Like will she betray them at some point? Hmm. Maybe Murph will have to make a momentous choice dun dun dun. I kinda like her face paint/ scar/ whatever. Grounders w/ face paint are awesome.

Indra… no doubt. Come back…… eff Trikru, we need you. Ha seriously though I miss her. And interesting point about Kane- I had not thought of that . Hmmm… and I don’t know, they all looked so earnest in their scrubbing. I thought if you could just speed that frame up even more it would be even funnier. Clearly I have too much time on my hands…

I could do Raven and Luna. I mean they seem to mesh and Luna obviously appreciates Raven’s um, attributes. lol I couldn’t resist. But I can see them getting on. They’ve been telegraphing it maybe with the beach scene and now… this.

I’m conflicted on O and Ilian. I mean on the one hand I want her to have some happiness, and she’s been so dark (even though I like her dark badassness lately) but at the same time- Ilian is no Lincoln. and their relationship was so awesome that it does way too early for her to be getting all googly eyed w/ Ili now. Plus if she hangs out on his farm… I just don’t know. Screaming might be appropriate. 🙂 The last thing she is is a frickin farmer.

            • I definitely think Emori will be a bigger deal than the one episode. And I also agree that it’s going to mean something for Murphy. Perhaps she’s going to try to betray Skaikru? And he’ll have to decide what to do? I can see it being a great character arc for him really ?

They DID look earnest with the scrubbing! They nailed the acting- though can you imagine how many takes it took to get that with all straight faces? ?

Dying at “Raven’s attributes” ??? They DO seem well suited for each other. Raven’s intensity with Luna’s calm mindfulness. I can see it. As for O, yeah wayyyy too soon. I mean Lincoln died a year ago for US, but mere WEEKS ago in show time. So yeah, she needs to grieve, because she never actually DID. Maybe these are therapy sheep! Win-win ?

  2. I’m not reading this review yet because.. I haven’t watched the last 2 episodes :/ I sort of lost a bit of interest I think. Either that, or I’ve been way too into reading lately.
