A little housekeeping of sorts, before we start. I am still really not doing okay. A lot of you are also probably not okay. I wavered while trying to decide if I should still do this, but I am doing this, and here is why:
- If I can spread a little happiness via a book, that can’t be a bad thing.
- Books are still incredibly important. Books allow us to open our minds and our hearts, and that is something we need very, very much right now.
- I realized that I can still talk about books, while still fighting the fight. I can still write while fighting the fight. We have to live, yes, but we never have to stop fighting. I can post a blog post while still writing letters. I can share love for a book while still making sure that I am doing as much as I can to try to somehow right these wrongs. This isn’t going “back to normal”, because there IS no going back. There’s only going forward. Yet books can have a place in this new reality, of course, and they should. So… here we go.
Welcome to the November 2016 New Release Giveaway Hop! Which, incidentally, I host now.
I will be giving away any November 2016 new release of your choice, up to $17. The giveaway is international, as long as The Book Depository ships there free of charge (find that out here!) Oh, and if you are a US winner, I will most likely ship from Amazon- because it will be there for you sooner!) If you prefer, I will send a Kindle edition via Amazon gift. (Please note: You may only chose ONE of these options!)
And now, the books!
This was a really good bookish month for me. While there aren’t as many books as in the past two months, the ones that are coming out are awesome. I really loved We Are Still Tornadoes, Flashfall, and Scythe so, so much!
And I am looking forward to SO many more! I have heard great things about so many of them.
My daughter will be home next Saturday for fall break. I have not seen her since September, so I am pretty excited.
Currently reading Gemina with my adorable dachshund at my side. Makes me pretty happy 🙂
Love you, Shannon! <3 This is honestly all I can offer. But YES, read books, educate others and continue to fight. We're way more stronger than people believe us to be and will fight through this horrid man and his equally horrid supporters. There's no going back, but we have to be stronger than ever and we have to be together.
I'm particularly intrigued by This Is Our Story from your list because I've been hearing some good things about it. Also Timekeeper. I need to try and put a request in at the library. Thanks for the giveaway! <3
My Dad finally returned from working out of the city and he’s here for good now. I’m so excited to spend some family time together.
My husband has the day off today. Yippee!
Totally agree that books are important and hold tremendous power in these times. Also, I loved what you said about the fact that we can still be readers AND keep fighting. These things are not mutually exclusive, and I have to keep reminding myself that. As for something positive: my friends and I celebrated Friendsgiving last night– lots of delicious food, card games, and productive discussions. <3
My happy: I think I finally figured out the angle for my picture book idea! Yay! The sun is shining and today I wrap up the yard work for the seaon before the flakes fly. It’s a good day.
I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling. We are too. So.. something happy.. I ordered something in memory of the loss of my pet, and I’m excited about something for the first time in a long time.
I woke up late this morning to a sunny day with the sounds of a Connecticut fall (tree trimming). When I went downstairs to make my coffee, the pot was all set up with a note from my housemate/daughter: “Just push the button.” And there was a link in my email from Kinna Reads aboot a great book event in Nigeria ( https://kinnareads.com/2016/11/13/currently-eagerly-anticipating-akefest16-in-abeokuta/ ) If you want to add some African titles to your TBR list, check it out. All in all, it was a nice start to the day.
We just got a new dog on Monday and we love her so much already. She is the sweetest pup.
My parents come visiting this weekend 🙂
I’m currently watching Legends of Tomorrow and I love your blog. It makes my day.
Books are important, so I’m glad you decided to still do this. Thank you very much!
Something happy? I came out as bisexual when I realized Trump was probably going to win. I did this on Facebook and I got mostly positive feedback from people.

I found a group on Facebook called Pantsuit Nation that is full of positivity and support.
Lots of love headed your way, Shannon!! I know exactly how you feel, so sending tons of ♥ your way!!! I also agree that books are super important, and I’ve tried to submerge myself in books even more so lately. I hope others don’t take that as a bad thing… to me it’s a good thing. Just trying to keep my head above water and smile whenever possible, while fighting like a tank and refusing to give up!! You’re the best, my friend! Keep up the positive attitude! It’s so admirable. ♥
Well, my ideal of happiness might be winning the book “My SIster Rosa”? Or not dying in the gutter?–I’m worried about that one. But I will soon this evening be drinking some cups of cocoa. Maybe I should be grateful for that–drinking cups of cocoa.

You know all my happy things. I met my gmma for the first time in 3 years over the summer! That’s my happy 2016 thing. Otherwise, this year has been a shitty thing.
I just started a global book share project called #BooksWithWings. I hope my faith in humanity is not too naive and that people really will share their love of books in a pay-it-forward type gesture.
Lots of hugs and thank you for hosting such an amazing giveaway.
My boss gave me a bunch of flowers last week and I was so happy cause they matched the book I’m currently reading, Heir of Fire! So of course I took some pics and IGed them!! Woot!
