A List on a Tuesday About Covers!

tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: 10 Of My Most Recent 5 Star Reads (Or Ten Of The Best Books I’ve Read Recently if you don’t 5 star stuff…or you could do 5 of my latest five star reads & five of my most disappointing or 1 star reads)

Look, that sounds super. But uh, I kind of post my reviews pretty soon after I read the books, and I haven’t really read any five star books since we last spoke of one other than Water’s Wrath, which I freaked out about on Twitter anyway. My point is, you know these already. So. Something I have been wanting to post more of is covers! Because covers are pretty– or not, but either way we shall talk about them.

I have found some new covers pleasing to my eyes. And some kind of… lacking? Let’s say that, that is much nicer than “fugly”, no? Anyway, covers link to Goodreads.

The Pretties!

Neal Shusterman has a new book that sounds completely freaking amazing and none of you told me?! Also, I feel like he had a deep, meaningful conversation with the cover gods this time. I approve.

28588460

This is creepy AF. But I don’t even care because I love it. I feel like this might be an unpopular opinion, and I am completely fine with that.

24909346

It’s blue, and that is all I need to be really happy. Plus I assume it is as gorgeous as Illuminae, so I am in.

28763485

I am an absolute sucker for bright colors. Also, Is that some kind of string? It has piqued my interest either way.

28367592

I want to know all about this house and never, ever be anywhere near it. Plus the tagline, which I usually don’t pay attention to, caught my eye! Also- do you think they are scratching at the walls? I bet they are.

28512750

Cat Winters + The actual prettiest cover ever = GRABBY HANDS. (Also, where do I buy one of these umbrellas?)

28503698

PRETTY. I dare you to tell me it isn’t gorgeous.  And I really hope her hair is actually that color.

28594985

I have no actual idea why I love this so much, but I do. I want a cool toy car that looks old and busted and has a luggage rack, I guess? Whatever, it’s fun and it makes me happy.

And the… um… ones that do not appeal to my eyes as much.

(Which is no reflection on the book itself- these are all on my TBR- good or not as good)

Reasons? Sure! From L-R, T-B:

1. Generic Fantasy Face Girl; 2. YAWN; 3. Unpopular Opinion Alert, but that color just makes me twitchy;

4.  Why are you sideways, generic looking girl?; 5. Looks like the sister from Ferris Bueller in some weird way and I  can’t get past it; 6. Creeps me out in the non-fun way.

Come on, I know you guys have opinions on covers! Let me have ’em! Did I just assault your eyes with some? Did I rain all over your favorite? Let’s chat!

  1. I MISS THE NEW SHUSTERMAN BOOK TOO! It sounds amazing, and that cover is so nice. Why did I not know about this!? And can I just say that I love this post. I literally agree with every single cover. What is it about that little toy car that’s so cute? I don’t know but it’s making me want to check out that book RIGHT NOW! And A Taste for Monster is just creeping me out so much… and it’s a gross colour. Ugh!

  2. I thoroughly agree with your cover love opinions. ? BUT HOW DID I NOT KNOW A NEW SHUSTERMAN BOOK WAS COMING?!?! OMGGGG. *dashes for goodreads*
Actually I need to add half of these. Thanks for nothing, Shannon. MY TBR IS TOO HUGE ALREADY OMG. Ahem.

  3. I am always down for a list of covers so yay! Yesternight is gorgeous!!! I will read this for cover alone. And so excited for another beautiful Nicola Yoon cover. Totally agree with the new Gayle Forman cover. Great list 🙂

  4. I like the cover for Gemina better than Illuminae’s cover, mainly because the blue. And “Generic fantasy face girl”. LOL. How many covers like that do we see? 🙂

  5. The Women in The Walls and Yesternight have such gorgeous and interesting covers! Literally just added them to my TBR because of their covers. ?

  6. Omigoodness, I saw that Shusterman book the other day and DIED. Like holy guacamole, that description. I totally agree with you on all the cover designs here!! Yesternight in particular is look quite fabulous.

  7. The Woman in the Walls and Amy Chelsea Stacy Dee (okay wow that’s a lot of names) are really creepy af, but in a good way. They really attract my attention! And I always love blue, so Gemina is also one of the prettiest. But the winner is definitely Everything We’ve Been. It’s so purrety!<3

  8. SO MANY PRETTIES^^ ♥.♥ I love that you went with another topic this week because to be honest, I haven’t read a single five-star book this year O.O A few came pretty close ( Winter and Illuminae) but not one cracked the 5* I still ended up listing my most recent 5-star reads but it’s like you said: I’ve gushed about this before >.> GREAT selection here!! xx

  9. I love how The Sun is Also a Star is both completely different from and thematically related to the cover for Everything, Everything. And OMG on the Shusterman news and cover. And yes, Generic Fantasy Girl needs to retire now.

  10. Loved this post (: What a creative take on the Top Ten Tuesday and thank you for introducing me to so many gorgeous books .< So definitely on the fence about Gemina…but that cover though isdjdlskjfsjfds the struggle

Everyone We've Been omfg, I'm in love! I love that the colors and the title art are the main focus but still there is a face out of focus behind the screen of sorts flkfjdskljfsd. And the synopsis sounds super intriguing ahhhh, defs added to my TBR. The Sun Is Also a Star though, eeek I'm super pumped. What a gorgeous cover, I just adore it. I read Yoon's debut and loved it so I hope the same is for The Sun is Also a Star. The insanely vague placeholder for the description has me even more excited haha.

As for Be Good Be Real Be Crazy I completely adore it too, the cover is unlike anything I've seen before. It's so cute! I definitely want to read Be Good Be Real Be Crazy because it's written by Chelsey Philpot. I LOVED Philpot's debut and if you haven't read it…SHANNON READ IT. Honestly Philpot's writing is magical.

Now for the less appealing (…fugly) covers.
LOL the Gayle Forman one…it's lines. Just lines, I mean I get minimalism, but that is a bit overboard haha. And as for Timekeeper where are defs twinning because that color is one I'm not a fan of. Quite the ugly yellow haha. And A Taste for Monsters is just weird af LOL. Not even creepy at all just wtf worthy.

<33 loved this post again Shannon

  11. Roxanne

I judge books by their covers (don’t judge me) and a couple of those at the top would be stuck in my freezer.

  12. I love the covers for Scythe and Gemina! MUCH PRETTY! Also, I think Middle Grade books always tend to have gorgeous covers. I don’t know what it is with those books, they’re just always so pretty!!

  13. So why is it that most of your “pretty” covers are giving me the heebie jeebies? I mean, seriously, woman… the one with the house, the one with the freaky close-up doll face. Creepy AF, indeed. Nightmare material! LOL That Nicola Yoon cover is totally giving me the I’ll Give You the Sun feels.

  14. SHUSTERMAN!!! Once again, I started reading your post and then ran away for like an hour while I went and requested that book from Simon & Schuster. My requests for physical books are pretty much always ignored, but I’m willing to embarrass myself and grovel (I mean, ask again) for Shusterman.

  15. It might be just me but a lot of these covers don’t appeal to me lol! Especially that Chelsea Stacie one *shivers*. I love the Gemina and Nicola Yoon covers though, they are absolutely beautiful!

  16. Ooo, Nicola’s IS pretty (that’s a new one to me!) and those colors together!? A work of art. Also, I’d not seen the second “Illuminae” reveal; it looks nice with the first book, so I’m glad they match. 🙂
