Halloween
Shay @ The Story Goes... came up with this bad boy. I am doing it, of course, because it is fun, and this is kind of my last chance (oopsie). Covers link to Goodreads!

Heebie-Jeebies (Favorite Scary Story):

You want me to pick just one? I am not ever good at picking one of anything!

23845997

Because this one didn’t fit in any other category! WIN!

Scream (Favorite Book With A Murder Mystery Plot):

23340891

I mean, if you remember the creepy-ass poem, you know it’s not going to be rainbows and butterflies around here…

You’re super welcome. Sweet dreams.

Casper (Favorite Book With A Ghost):

19547848

Because Cat Winters is amazing, please enjoy your ghosts with a side of history.

Monster Mash (Favorite Paranormal Book):

23346358

Another book that you simply must read. As a bonus, there’s a big old Halloween party!

Halloween 2007 remake (Favorite Retelling):

THIS BOOK. If you haven’t read it, do it. It hasn’t a thing to do with Halloween, but you still should read it.

Female Character You’d Most Want To Dress Up As:

giphy (4)This surprises who, exactly?

Male Character You’d Most Want To Dress Up As:

too_tired

Spoiler alert! I am not a guy. So, I don’t know who I would want to dress up as if I were one. Plus, the guys’ wardrobes in books and movies just aren’t quite as fun! If you can think of one though, let me know, I am game!

Favorite Villain (preferably a scary villain):

I was legitimately trying to come up with a non-Hunger Games related one, but I can’t. And I feel like the tag wants my honesty. ezgif-2886263763

Fun Size (favorite short story/novella):

25465559Do I get bonus points for there also being a ghost and a mystery? Fabulous!

What’s your favorite scary movie?

7711937070552532b7fb483d8838bc9e

Technically, it’s a TV mini-series, but I feel like since I own it on DVD, it qualifies. Plus, it is so creepy. So freaking creepy. Watch it, and then never sleep again.

There you have it! I shan’t tag anyone, because there really isn’t enough time before Halloween. BUT if you have time and want to, please do!

Do you have any favorite scary stories or movies to share with the class? Or are you not a fan of such things?

  1. *Raises hand* I was not surprised you wanted to be Katniss. I want to be Katniss in that mockingjay dress because I want to twirl and burn okay? #goals AND OMG THE ACCIDENT SEASON IS ONE OF MY TOP READS OF THIS YEAR. I AM DYING BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH. AFJDKLASFDJAKLSD

    • I agree, I loved it too, and I cannot WAIT for the next one! You absolutely need to read all the books you listed- in fact, every one was at least 4 stars for me. I think at least 4.5 even. And Katniss’s dresses were GORGEOUS. I saw a few in person at The Hunger Games Exhibition, and oh. my. goodness. They were incredible!

  2. Wait just a minute here. You want to dress up as Katniss and your favorite villain is Snow? No way. No freaking way. Who are you? {snicker snicker}

  3. This is so fun!!!! I love your answers, especially the costumes. Hmmm… a male character I’d want to dress up as is DEFINITELY a tricky one! Harry Potter is the only one that comes to mind. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  4. Yeah, it surprises who, exactly? 😉 You’d look badass! And, eek, TWaTD, I started it a few weeks ago, got to page 50, was loving it, and then remembered people’s reactions to the ending, so left it until nearer the sequel release date. Ohhh, I would totally dress up as Ron Weasly (because there’s bound to be a HP.) The Dead House has to be my favourite horror of the year, scarrrrrred me.

  5. So many books on here that need to be on my TBR! Is this the post that you edited to include The Uninvited? I love that one so much. I need to read more Cat Winters. And I can’t really remember the name os the guy who plays Snow in the movies (is it Donald Sutherland??), but he is AWESOME.

    • YEP! This is the one! I literally commented on your post like, an hour before this one went up, and I changed it hahahha. I LOVE Cat Winters and was so mad at myself for forgetting her! YES Donald Sutherland. He is amazing. I was always so afraid he was going to die during filming, how morbid is that? But he IS 80! And then Philip Seymour Hoffman… I sob.

  6. I’m not a big fan of scary stuff. This October I started reading some creepy books but they weren’t all that creepy. I do want to read The Accident Season and Blood and Salt!

    • Those are two that I definitely think are worth reading! They aren’t scary, so much as atmospherically creepy. I like that. Actual gore and horror aren’t my thing. All the books on this list are more unusual and creepy and almost zero gore and terror. (And I loved each of them, actually!)

  7. Katniss is a style icon. I totally approve. 😀 President Snow OMG. OOHHH. Cat Winters! I’ve been dying to get my hands on her next book, The Steep and Thorny Way, but I am totally adding The Uninvited to my crazy overflowing TBR! Not really a scary movie person but I do love the Halloween classics. (i.e. Hocus Pocus, Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin). Sweet post!

    • Thank you!! Cat Winters is AMAZING. Seriously. I NEED The Steep and Thorny Way. And all the books, even the ones she hasn’t written yet but are maybe lurking in her mind 😉 I am not a scary movie person either. At all. But man, that Stephen King movie… every time there’s a snowstorm, I want to cry and call my mom 😀

  8. Tags are so much fun, but ugh I’ve been sooo lazy on actually doing them. I always come across some I want to do, then always change my mind saying, ” nah maybe next I’ll do it ” knowing damn well there’s never a next time lol. After I finish Air Awakens, I’ll be jumping into Sweet Madness, and I’m sooo excited! I remember your review for it, and since you thought it was nice and creepy, hopefully I will too. I was also supposed to read and review Blood and Salt this month but, you know how TBR’s go lol. Great list Shan Ban!

    • Hahah I feel you! I LOVE tags, in theory. But then… TIME. But you know, I still encourage tagging, because I just might like that particular tag enough to do it 😉

OH I hope you are loving Air Awakens! Fire Falling is somehow epically better, even though I loved AA. I hope you love Sweet Madness! Even my dad liked it, though he did say he wanted more murder? Whatever that means haha.

TBRs are the devil. Maybe THAT is the ultimate scary Halloween thing!

  9. Niceee answers Shannon! I absolutely ADORE Cat Winter’s stories; they’re the closest to horror I can read haha. Everything is so atmospheric in her books and stands true to the history with a dose of supernatural – truly great reads for Halloween! I’ve also heard many gr9 things about Blood and Salt, so I need to get to that soon haha.
AGREE 105% ABOUT THE WRATH AND THE DAWN. Man, everybody and their pet needs that book in their hands! And finally, I’m not sure where the context from the poem you added was from, but that was super creepy. o.o Thanks for giving me the chills!

    • Aw thanks so much! I agree, Cat is fabulous. BEYOND fabulous. I love atmospheric stories- MUCH more than horror, for sure.

Also WRATHHHHH. I love it. I love it SO MUCH. Oh, the poem is from the actual story of Lizzie Borden- and some sick sickos made a poem about it. I don’t think it is technically accurate- I think they were bludgeoned far less than 40 and 41 times, but I guess it worked for rhyming purposes? Have you heard the real story that this was inspired by?

Here, for reference- it also answers the question about the poem 😉 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizzie_Borden#Folk_rhyme

  10. Did you set out to pick books I haven’t read so that I’d HAVE to read even more??? You torture me with all your awesome book recs, Shannon!

But yay, I’m so glad you did this! Also, not surprised at the Katniss one, I figured you’d pick it when I tagged you, also with Snow for villain! Storm Of The Century totally counts, it’s so creepy! Thanks for sharing the poem, I needed a little more scary for my Halloween!

Saddly…I’m just not a fan of scary stories and movies… Haha. Yeah right. Currently my favorite scary movie has moved on from Scream and to Insidious because AH that movie! So creepy. So awesome.

    Hope you’re having a good Halloween! =)

    • Yes, I did. Scoured Goodreads and everything 😉 Sorry! I did love ALL of these though. Bwhaha I love that you knew what I’d pick before I even picked it! That makes me chuckle.

I hope you had a FABULOUS Halloween- it feels like it’s just your day, so I hope it was amazing!
