This Week At Midnight (67)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. I also decided that since I do a weekly recap, it really is just good sense to link up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewerbecause that is such a fun link up as well!

Weekly Shenanigans

I read three books, but mind you, I spent over a week reading Heir of Fire. That’s a long time.

It wasn’t the best reading week ever, it wasn’t the worst. Don’t kill me but… while I liked HoF, it could have been a few hundred pages shorter.

Ohhh there are things! First, I will be posting my big, huge, kind of epic if I do say so myself, 1K Giveaway!! I am going to wait until the monthly giveaway has ended, so prepare for that next week! Also, I will be asking you guys to help out and answer some questions in the near future!

I am going to not-review some books, post a review of Paperweight, and probably do a tag or discussion. You just never know 😉

Now, which book should I read for the “Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon”? I will probably be able to read 3 or 4 books in that time period, so.. you get to choose 3!!

Which books should I read for the "Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon"?

  1. YES I AM THE FIRST TO VOTE. Hahahah. And wow how did you already read Heir of Fire???? HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DISCUSS EVERYTHING? Just kidding I’m sure we can pick another book 😛

I’m excited to read Paperweight. Was it good? Did you like it? I’ve heard good things about it…YOU’RE KEEPING ME IN THE DARK

  2. Haha, “a few hundred pages shorter”. Lol! I have Paperweight! I need to read it, gr. I just did your quiz too. Ooh, and I didn’t even notice Larissa’s discussion, I’m glad you shared it!

I voted on your books! Me and Val chose all different books. Ha.

  3. I AM DYING FOR YOUR REVIEW OF PAPERWEIGHT!! Everyone seemed to love it and, I thought it was well written?? But not impressive?? Omg. I’ve become so hard to please this year. 0-0 BUT ANYWAY. So many prettiful books and I’m looking up Between Us and the Moon because I want to know if the answer is something cool like asteroids or galactic explosions. *nods*
This weekend? I’m being a lonely solo hermit while my whole family is away. I have so many devious plans to put into action — like listening to audio books without headphones</i< **gasps** I'm a wild party animal, I tell ya.

    • I felt the same as you (YAY US!!) I mean… I liked it, and I think some of it was done REALLY well, but I didn’t feel a strong enough emotional connection with Stevie, unless you count wanting to smack her silly an emotional connection, which I do not.

And we should have traded weekends! I would KILL to be a lonely hermit. See, I am often a hermit, but I have two smaller humans attached at all times. Alone is… something I haven’t experienced in FOUR YEARS. That’s crazy. You, on the other hand, could have attended a Berenstain Bears themed 4th birthday party 😉 There was cake!

  4. Looks like Katniss and Peeta have officially won, couldn’t have been beaten by a better OTP. 😉 Also, I’m voting for Blood and Salt because then at least I’ll know whether to preorder it or not. 😀

  5. I love the idea od posting your make me a thon book options on the weekly haul post. I might steal that idea. I hoe you don’t mind…?
I can’t wait to see what you thought of Paperweight. I hope you will check out my review and let me know what you think now. I loved it. (the book not the review. well, i loved my review, too. i guess. oh nevermind)
I haven’t read any of the books you got this week at #booksfortrade, except The Hunger Games. I hope you enjoy your new reads. I am so jealous that you got The Accident Season arc! I got it via netgalley, but it would look so good on my book shelf. I hope we both enjoy it!

    • Nope, you can link up with Val’s post too- more people will likely vote that way too 😀

I did read your review! I think I loved it a little less, but I did really like it, and thought that the issues were handled quite well!

And thanks so much, I hope you love it too!

  6. Katniss and Peeta are THE OTP. (I’ll grab my cookie on the way out!).

I voted for you to read The Scorpion Rules, Vengeance Road and The Devil You Know because I need more people to talk to about them!

  7. That package from Penguin!! :O I also haven’t read Heir Of Fire yet. I plan to read it before Queen Of Shadows releases. I actually got it before it came out by I was intimidated by it’s size!

  8. Your Voice is all I hear sounds very interesting and I am curious how it handled the issue of schrizophenia. I have leanred a bit about the topic in uni and it sounds like a horrible mental illness to have and a difficult topic to write about.
Thanks for linking to my post about netgally, I am glad you enjoyed it 🙂

Have a great week and I hope you’ll enjoy your new books!

    • I agree, I think it must be SO difficult to write about (and of course, live with!). I like that this book sounds like it takes a different approach with it being a loved one who has the illness, not the main character. I am intrigued 🙂

  9. YOUR BOOKS. They look gorgeous! 😀 My request for Your Voice is All I Hear is yet to be approved at NG, but I’m crossing my fingers on it. And the books you got from Books For Trade look TEMPTING <3 Anyway, good luck on the readathon! I seriously want to join, but July will be too busy for me. Then another problem is that I can only finish ONE BOOK per week. ^_^" Haha. Have fun and, again, good luck Shannon!

    • Ohh my fingers are crossed for you!! I hope they approve you- this is actually my first approval from them, they are oddly picky- I was denied for a LOT of their books, so I hope you have better luck!

I know what you mean, July is going to be ROUGH for me, but I do need to read these books (most of them are review books, or at least BEA books!)- and I *think* I can do 3 (but I may or may not try to get a head start- I do LOVE to cheat 😉 ) Hope you have a wonderful week !

  10. I just received the ARC for Your Voice is all I Hear too. I am not super crazy about the cover, but the premise sounds great. For your readathon, I picked Skyscraping, Everything, Everything, and Under the Painted Sky. Of course the only one of those I have actually read is Skyscraping. As you know, I LOVED it!! Also, since it is written entirely in verse, it is kind of a fast read. Too fast actually. There were a few times I had to remind myself to slow down just so I could savor the words.

  11. Oh, The archived ! I’ve read mitigated reviews about that one but the concept does appeal to me, it makes me think about Dr Who’s episode in the Library ! I should be reading Heir of fire in August, I’ll let you know how it went, lol ! Have a great week 😉

  12. I agreed on Ashley’s post about blog tours, too!!! It was kind of a “duh!” moment I hope for a lot of bloggers!!

I loved voting for your next book!! My three were up there 😉 I win something, right? Ha, ha!!!

Hope next week is a better reading week! Mine last week was pretty yucky, too….

    • Right!? I mean, for me, everyone who reads my blog KNOWS that if it is a blog tour, and I am just posting an excerpt… it’s not likely that I loved the book. I would gush 😉 But i still post all the stuff and do what I am supposed to because I made a commitment. If you don’t like the way blog tours work, I mean, feel free to not sign up, right? (Glad someone else agrees 😀 )

And YES- you get a cookie- or three, even! Hope your next week in reading is better too!

  13. Looks like you have tons of wonderful books to choose from which can be almost as confusing as not having any! I sometimes feel a little pulled in all directions from all my pretty books. Great links! I see several discussions I missed that I really want to check out. Have a great week!

  14. Fantastic haul! The Accident Season sounds weird but in a good good way. I’m looking forward to reading Alive. I had a GREAT reading week…but that’s only because I lost power for most of the week because of the horrible storms that came through. I now have a pile of books to review. Thank goodness my power and internet are back! I had no StS post this week because of my forced Amish conditions this week, so next week I’ll do a two week wrap up. Enjoy your new books!

  15. Looking forward to your thoughts on Paperweight. I’m curious about that one myself. I REALLY need to read Throne of Glass. I wish I had more time to read so I could read more… there’s just so many books that I’m dying to get to!! Hope you enjoy your week! 🙂

  16. Thanks for sharing my post Shannon! I may be getting a copy of Paperweight soon, so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it. YES Heir of Fire felt draggy to me as well, sounds like I’m not the only one! Have a lovely week ahead!

  17. I was the only one who voted for The White Rose, that made me LOL. You should pick up Everything, Everything – it is amazing! Your book haul looks so pretty though *stares* Enjoy reading them <3 Look forward to your posts.

  18. I am honestly afraid to buy Heir of Fire because like HOW IS A BOOK THAT BIG WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO PUT IT. And I still have not read The Archived, even though it’s been on my wishlist for YEARS. I feel like I should fix this. (Ten minutes from now, I’ll forget all about it again.) And I don’t think I ever said it but YAYYYYYY SHANNON CONGRATS!!

    • RIGHT!? It was so heavy and so huge. It hurt my wrists! It was pretty good though. But… Queen of Shadows is 656 pages. So I don’t even know what to do with that, other than kill small rodents? But um, while I was looking it up, I pre ordered it. So there’s that. And THANK YOU!!! 😀
