Top Ten Most Unique Books I’ve Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature over at The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is “Top Ten Most Unique Books I’ve Read”.

Another super challenging one! I have to hand it to the ladies at The Broke and the Bookish, they sure know how to make a blogger think!

10. Free Space. It’s like Bingo up in here. Now I, too, am being unique.*

9. Ashfall trilogy by Mike Mullin. The uniqueness in this series lies in its realism. This is one of those things that could seriously happen. And the characters are so believable, you can almost picture yourself in their shoes, which is what makes this so amazing to read, and scary as hell too.

8. Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Before you start stoning me in a public arena, hear me out: No one said this list meant uniquely good, just unique. And this is unique in that “what-just-happened-to-me-can-I-erase-time?” way. I have read so many reviews of this book since reading it, so many of Ms. Roth’s own interviews. And I still just have no idea why I read what I read. I still love Divergent and Insurgent, but I know I can never read them again. Making it through the movie left me choked up, thinking about what was to come. I don’t think a final book has ever or could ever upset and disappoint me that much, so yeah, pretty unique.

7. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. I don’t know how to say exactly what I found unique about this book without spoiling stuff. So you know, if you’re curious, give it a go! I loved it.

6. The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I had no intentions of reading this one because I didn’t think the “alien” thing appealed to me. But I read enough reviews to figure out that it wasn’t actually about little green men in spaceships, and I began to get intrigued. Curiosity did get the best of me, and I read it, and yeah, definitely different! I loved it, and truthfully I kind of forgot about the “alien” concept, and was more focused on all the other stuff going on.

5. The Skinjacker Trilogy by Neal Shusterman. I was wary about this one since it is for a bit of a younger audience than I am generally drawn to, but this trilogy was unlike anything I’d read before. It was creepy yet endearing, and just basically blew me away. I was glad I didn’t let the reading level thing scare me off!

4. Blood Red Road by Moira Young. Fine, I will fully admit that when I started reading this, I was like “What kind of shenanigans is this lady trying to pull? I can’t read this nonsense!” and put the book down. For like, six months. And then I was bored one day and gave it another go. And it was worth it. Yes, it takes awhile to get into the strange dialect, but once you do, it is pretty awesome.

3. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. Because really, have you ever read about from the POV of the zombie before? No. You get lots of people running from zombies, but no actual zombie feels and such. Definitely unique!

2. Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness. I just can’t even. You just have to read it because I don’t think that any words I have can do it justice.

1. Unwind dystology by Neal Shusterman. I gave my mom Unwind and UnWholly for her birthday, because I have gotten her hooked on YA Dystopian. She read them and asked me “What the hell did I just read? That is messed up!”. And it is. And positively incredible. Seriously, who comes up with something like that? The premise is just… unheard of. And it is just so different from anything I have ever read, but in such a good way. I don’t think I will ever again come across anything so unique, terrifying, and epic as this series. Also, Neal Shusterman is basically the star of this list.

*The word I was looking for was lazy.

  1. Skinjackers also made my list this week! But I have only read the first Unwind book I really enjoyed it even though it’s kinda messed up I just haven’t gotten around to the others yet. I still haven’t read Allegiant because I am afraid to!
    P.S. Bingo!

    • If I could go back, I would like, put my fingers in my ears like a 2 year old and not listen to Allegiant even existing. So yeah 😉 And when you get the chance, definitely continue with Unwind. I just love it!

  2. I love everything about this list!

    9. I adored Ashfall! And I would have included it in my list if I wasn’t sharing the topic with my coblogger XD
    7. ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER. Yes, it deserves caps.
    2. Chaos Walking *cries* Patrick Ness is my king.
    1. YESSSSS.

    • Oh, I hope they change it! It is seriously the only thing keeping me interested, the chance that it *might* be changed. I just wonder how many fans will actually want to see the movie as the book was? Probably not many. Not even just the ending, but the whole book in general was a bit “blah”.
