Welcome to October’s Monthly Minutes at Midnight!

Here’s the deal: I’ll share the books I’ve obtained, posts of interest from others, giveaways I have happening, and just general random shenanigans. You know I love a shenanigan.  Also, covers all link to Goodreads, because I am awesome. As always, I link up with the Wrap Up Round Up, too!

The Books

For Review/From Publishers:

Death of a Dancing Queen by Kimberly G. Giarratano  ♦ Brighter Than the Moon by David Valdes ♦ Lark Ascending by Silas House  ♦ The Red Sky by Timothy D. Minneci

Thanks so much to the authors and publishers! So excited for these!

eARCs:

Huge thanks to the publishers for these lovelies! I am so excited for all of them! Last month, I was proud for not over-requesting. This month, I’m very much back on my bullshit, so.

Purchased:

Too tired to link, for I acquired too many books.

Won/Gifted/Traded:

Nothing this month!

Thanks to no one ♥♥ (heh)

Shenanigans Since Last Time:

I read 12 books this month. Look, I can’t even be mad, because some of these books were long! I mean, Wayward was over 800 pages, so that is legit like 3 books right there. And a few more were over 500 pages!

Pretty good bunch, this.

Here are some of the loveliest/most entertaining/super helpful/just plain interesting posts I found this month!

Fancy & New Since Last I Saw You!

I love looking at pretty covers! So here are some new ones that I have fallen in love with since our last update!

Pretty covers are pretty.

Things we need to talk about at this juncture:

  • VOTE! If you haven’t already, do the thing! I did, my ballot has been received and recorded, and now I can feel like I am going to vomit from now until whenever the heck the results are in, fun!
  • I am pretty stoked that it is almost November!  I am a wee bit like a child, who gets excited for her birthday, but here we are. Plus, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving mean days off from work! When I was younger and in better shape, swim season was getting into full gear by then too, which I loved. So even though fall isn’t my fave… I do enjoy November!
  • Halloween is today! I obviously do not have pictures of the kids trick-or-treating, but Lena went to a trunk-or-treat with a friend last week, and I forced Sam to put on his costume for you, so… you’re welcome! (Lena now has a very fun bloody hat from The Walking Dead to wear, so visualize that, yeah?)

Have a great November, loves! Let me know how your month was! Looking forward to anything coming up?

  1. You monster, forcing kids to wear costumes. What a cute banana! I think November is a great month as well. Thanksgiving is a great food holiday and it’s just about getting together (no gift drama). I am here for that. How did I not know about the Cat Shook book? I had to go “wish” for it because I have no clout, but it sounds like something I would really enjoy. I keep telling you fantasy books are too long. LOL! It’s not the quantity, it the quality of your reading. I hope all 12 were hits.

    • Bwahah right? He didn’t midn hah. YESS I am so thrilled it is November. I like Thanksgiving too, for the most part. OH yay I hope you get approved! It looks really good- and I obviously love the cover! And dude- they ARE. Though it is all most sci-fi and post-apocalypse and such that have me bogged down. Though in their defense, none of them felt as long as they were, so that is good!

  2. You’ve already read Wayward and Reckoning?? So jealous. I love how you’re practically a month ahead of your review books. (I probably say that every month, lol) Love the costumes, I hope it’s a fun Halloween for your family🎃

    • YES and both were quite good. Also, both took me a really long time hah- but I will say, neither felt as long as they really are, so there’s a win! Dude so- that is how I operate basically, reading the next month’s books the month before. I used to read them wayyy too far in advance, especially when I was excited about the thing, so I stopped letting myself. BUT if I read them TOO soon, then I am rushing. SO now, I lay out all the next month’s books, and start those on the first of the month before, so I am never reading more than a month ahead. Maybe I should make a discussion about this, actually! And Thanks so much!!

  3. So I’m going to miss October since it’s one of my favorie months- Halloween- but I like November too because of Thanksgiving. I do want to start the Gear series (is this the month I finally do???) and The Hollows looks like scary fun.

    Cute costumes!

    • October always feels kind of long to me- and a bit depressing, too, like it starts out warm and decent and then by the end you either have a blizzard, or some bizarro heat wave to remind you that the end times are near, hah. Can you please read the damn Donovan series? So they keep publishing them? This is selfish but I also think you’d like it!

  4. Looks like you have some great reading ahead! As always – I love the pretty covers – If We’re Being Honest is my favorite. I hope your family enjoys Halloween!

  5. AW, I love your kid’s costumes. I got Sign Here from BOTM too. I’m definitely curious about it. I had a pretty good reading month in October, but it’s still spooky season to me so I’m all about mysteries and whatnot. lol

  6. Gah! I wanna read Tread of Angels so badly. Goodreads think I won a copy, but it was never actually sent to me. 🙁 Rebecca Roanhorse is such a fantastic writer, I’m sure it’ll be as amazing as her first two books were.

Looks like your kiddos had a fun Halloween! And happy early birthday! May this month be restful.

    • Dude! Go to the Goodreads giveaway page and you can report that you didn’t get it! Happens to me fairly frequently, tbh. I think they forget or something hah. It was really good so I think you need it in your life! And thank youuuu ♥♥♥

    • Aw thanks! And I loved the Chloe Gong book, I hope you do too! I had to buy it because I liked it hah. And OMG the commercials being over was close to the best part! My state getting its shit together was the best part, but the end of the ads was a close second!

  7. I’m happy that this was a good month for you! And I am so, so happy that you are reminding people to vote! (I just read your September post before this and admired your foresight and brilliance to remind people to register). It’s so important and I really hope that results end up indicating that change will start happening for the better!

ANYWAYS! Bookishly, the covers you shared are gorgeous, per usual! We really do have similar taste in cover styles! And I noticed that you read more than one book from your previous sections where you mentioned acquiring them this very same month! That’s so impressive! I rarely do that!

I hope you have a fantastic month!

    • AW thank you! And thankfully, it looks like it paid off to some extent! I also went into work and badgered everyone, so hopefully that helped hahah. So I don’t *usually* manage to read them in the same month but sometimes i get review books last minute (of course, I had requested them half a year ago, hah) and then feel like I HAVE to read them by the pub date. The struggle!

  8. Cute trick or treaters! 🙂 I love your Blogosphere Bulletin as a way to share the love for other bloggers and their great ideas or posts. Mind if I steal the idea? I love the idea of finding another way to support other bloggers!
