Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten Best Books Of 2016 (you choose — best books overall of what you read regardless of pub date, of a particular genre, 2016 debuts, 2016 releases, etc)

We all know I am never going to choose just ten books, right? So reason dictates that I choose sixteen for 2016? Sure. These are in a… kind of order, I guess? It’s not exact, nor am I trying for it to be but… it’s close-ish to my extra favorites being lower numbered, since that makes sense. Or something.

  1. Ah, so many great books that are still on my TBR! 🙂 I still need to finish The Remnant Chronicles (only read book one a while ago so I’ll have to re-read first and then continue). The Air Awakens series, Flashfall, Three Dark Crowns and The Serpent King are still on my TBR as well so I’m happy you enjoyed them! Exist Once More looks gorgeous, will have to check it out!
I did read and love The Crown’s Game (and I’m highly anticipating the sequel), Crooked Kingdom and Wanderlost 🙂

  2. I really want to read You Were Here. It looks so intriguing. If I’m honest, all of these books make me want to read them NOW! Not enough time to read all that I want to! I’m glad that you’ve had such a good reading year.

  3. I haven’t read most of these, but they’re on my list! My… very long list. I’m especially curious about Scythe; I love that cover art.

I know, how do you pick just 10!!! TSK, We are Still Tornadoes, The Wrath and the Dawn are on my top 10. Phantom Limbs, The Memory Book (the tears!), TDC, are on my honorable mentions. You are ahead of me the series, which I have on my list, and I look forward to reading many of your top picks. Great list!

  5. How have I not read ANY of these – even your honorable mentions. :::hangs head in shame:::: The good thing is I own a lot like The Serpent King, Memory Book, Wonderlost and All We Have Left so I just need to actually read them at some point. Good for you for kind of ordering them too. I would have such a hard time with that!!

  6. Great list, Shannon! I really need to read my copies of Under a Painted Sky and Walk on Earth a Stranger – especially when Like a River Glorious has such a beautiful cover! I’m glad to see you enjoued The Book Thief (SUCH a good book) and Crooked Kingdom, too; I’m planning to pick up Six of Crows very soon. 🙂

  7. So many great looking new books that I have to check out! I originally had Three Dark Crowns on my TBR list but I heard there was a pretty bad love triangle going on and that isn’t my thing. Glad to hear you enjoyed it tho! I have We Are Still Tornadoes on my Kindle but haven’t gotten to it yet. It sounds super good!

  8. I’m hearing amazing things about The Forgetting that I put it on my TBR for next year. I just bought Three Dark Crowns and can’t wait to pick it up. The Glittering Court is also on my TBR for next year. I have so many amazing books to catch up on. I’m so glad you loved these!

  9. Tammy V

A few of mine: Eric Lindstrom, J. Daniels, Ann Omasta, Nicole Archer, Martina McAtee, Anna Banks, Renee Carlino, Liza Weimer, Shae Ross. This year I really went out of my way to read new authors.

  10. Ah I NEED to read The Serpent King, I’ve heard so many incredible things about it! I returned it to the library last week without having reading it and I’m regretting that decision now! XD

  11. Oo there’s so many on my TBR! I also loved The Crown’s Game. I’m happy to see it on a list because I feel like there isn’t that many people who also liked it. Maybe I just saw a ton of negative reviews. 😛

  12. YAY THE SERPENT KING WHICH IS ACTAUL THE BEST BOOK EVER AND ALSO RUINED MY LIFE. As all good books should, tbh. And this reminds me that I am such a fail for not having read Scythe or Three Dark Crowns yet…soon?!? ? I need to get my act together and actually read from my TBR omg. And yesssss to your honourable mentions of The Book Thief and Crooked Kingdom.?
My top reads are entirely predictable because….THE RAVEN KING. (Bet you didn’t see that coming.)?? And I also adored my re-reads of Illuminae and Six of Crows. And I flailed and exploded over Lies of Locke Lamora, The Name of the Wind, and The Emperor’s Blades. <3

  13. I’m glad to see that the Glittering Court is on your favorites’ list, because I have been hearing mixed reviews (mostly negative), and I like Richelle Mead. I have the book already. I will work my way through Mary E. Pearson’s trilogy, too, and will report back.

  14. I am getting ready to read Scythe soon as well as The Serpent King. I have heard marvelous things about those books. This is a great list and you are adding a few more to my TBR. Thanks for sharing!

  15. Okay The Beauty of Darkness looks badass, and so does The Rule of Mirrors (love those covers). Exist Once More reminds me I never did read the first one. The Hunt looks awesome and I have now determined that I am going to read three Dark crowns. Because I see mixed reviews but … sisters? Having to fight to the death for a crown? Duh. Plus your review is telling me it’s awesome. 🙂

Some of those honorable mentions too… Corruption looks good (I literally JUST discovered the first one, Disruption, like yesterday on some blog) and The Forgetting has me wanting to know more. This post has me wanting to add several of these to my TBR, but Three Dark Crowns especially- I really want to read that one now.

    Nice list. 🙂

  16. Yay, I’m so happy to see that you loved The Serpent King as much as I did! I also LOVE Crooked Kingdom (duh) and The Book Thief, and I enjoyed Wanderlost. So many of the others on your list are on my TBR!

  17. Great list, Shannon! I really need to read Flashfall and The Forgetting! I loved Crooked Kingdom haha. I kind of struggled with The Beauty of Darkness, though I still enjoyed it, just not as much as I had hoped. The Crown’s Game was good, I’m excited for the second one!

  18. All the yeses to The Crown’s Game! I kind of wasn’t sure about it because me and fantasy… eh. But I loved it so much. So glad I took a chance on that one. I’ve had The Memory Book on my TBR for a while now. Seeing it on your list reminds me that I need to pick it up soon. Loved seeing your faves of the year, Shannon!

  19. I’ve read none of these other than The Glittering Court! I feel like I’m not up to date (possibly because I’m not up to date). I think my favorite of 2016 was A Gathering of Shadows, but there were a lot of good ones!

  20. I need to read Under a Painted Sky! And The Memory Book! And The Cage! And Scythe! I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THE SERPENT KING! I only thought The Girl From Everything, Three Dark Crowns, Flashfall, and The Crown’s Game were okay though.

  21. I am so glad that you were able to enjoy The Book Thief! My biggest shame, is that that one is the only book I have read here on this list. I have a lot of shaping up to do, obviously! I really want to read The Rose and The Dagger, Scythe and The Serpent King in 2017!

  22. Great list! I still need to The Glittering Court and You Were Here (I’ve heard such good things about this one!)! I just bought The Serpent King because you said it was your favorite so I can’t wait to read it! On to 2017!

  23. Oooh I really liked The Crown’s Game when I read it too! I have Flashfall out from the library, looking forward to reading it. Yay for Scythe and The Serpent King! Everyone seems to love those two so I’m looking forward to reading it. Great picks Shannon!
