pick-my

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Halloween related freebie: ten scary books, favorite horror novels, non-scary books to get you in the Halloween/fall mood, bookish Halloween costumes, scariest covers), scary books on my TBR, etc.

So, today is a Halloween freebie! And, would you look at that, Shannon needs a Halloween book to read! But alas, I cannot decide anything, and certainly not a spooky/creepy/eerie book to read. So… YOU shall. And then I will read it this weekend. And I’ll let you know how it was in my monthly recap!

The Ten Choices:

I was going to type up all the synopses, but the post got really crowded really fast so… the pictures link to Goodreads, at least 😉

What are some of your favorite scary/creepy/spooky books? I am hit or miss with them, which is probably why these are still on my shelf, BUT I really want to read them so… may the odds be ever in their favor.

  1. Ooh voting. Tough pick for me between With Malice and All The Missing Girls. I went with Malice because she can’t remember shit and did she kill her friend? Yeah I like that. Although Girls sounds all twisty and dark, so either one probably rules. Rocks Fall though… lol

  2. I’ve seen Devil You Know and These Shallow Graves around, but the others are unfamiliar. So, yeah, guess I’d vote for those two. 😉 Great post, Shannon.

  3. You have an amazing list there I don’t know what to vote for! Whatever the result, I can’t wait to hear what you thought of it Shannon!

  4. All the Missing Girls got my vote, as it’s the only one on your list I have read. I loved that you turned this into a vote, that’s a cool idea.

  5. These Shallow Graves sounds really good. I’m putting it on my list!

I’m not good with creepy books in general, but a couple I have enjoyed lately are The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, and Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge. You can’t go far wrong with those authors.

  6. I picked This is Our Story because I want to read it so you can be the guinea pig and say if it’s good or not.? I didn’t really love Shallow Graves?? I mean, it’s good, but really not that creepy. hahah. And Rocks Fall Everyone Dies is the same. Interesting and villainous (WHICH IS COOL) but not creepy. I NEED TO READ THE DEAD HOUSE TOO THO SO MAYBE READ THAT AS WELL. Read them all, Shannon. That’ll solve everything.

  7. I’ve read and loooved These Shallow Graves and Last Seen Leaving so I’d definitely recommend those two! Although These Shallow Graves isn’t spooky – like at all, it’s more of a mystery. The rest are on my TBR though so I look forward to hearing what you think of them as well.

  8. That was SUCH a hard choice!!! I SO want everyone to read Last Seen Leaving because I just finished it and it was SOOOOO GOOD!! BUT— With Malice was really good too! AND I’m super excited to read This is Our Story & want to hear what everyone thinks about it too! I can’t wait to see what ends up winning 🙂

  9. Janet

I went back and forth between With Malice and These Shallow Graves. These Shallow Graves got my vote. I definitely want to read that book! Can’t wait to see which book wins.

  10. Great list! It was so hard to choose! I ultimately went with Amy Chelsea Stacie Dee because I haven’t seen many reviews about that one and I’d like to see your thoughts on it!

    xo

  11. The Trees Crept In also by Dawn Kurtagich is super creepy, but Dead House is a great psychological mystery! Great picks all around! I’ll be reading Last Seen Leaving soon.

  12. I voted for Amy Chelsea Stacie Dee because I just recently came across it and loved the synopsis. It’s totally not my usual kind of read (No romance? Horrors!) but it still grabbed me. So I’ll let you read it first and let me know if I should bother. 😉

  13. I just HAD to vote for Last Seen Leaving because it’s so good and wild and romantic. I have Amy Chelsea && Rocks Fall, which I’m ESPECIALLY excited for. But if you end up going with This Is Your Story by some , let me know!! That cover is to die for. Literally. ha

  14. The Dead House was absolutely amazing Shannon! I hope you end up giving it a try. And I was a bit meh about With Malice and The Devil You Know, but I hope you enjoy them if you end up reading them. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3

  15. Boo

I voted for that scary book with the doll on the cover, just because it was the creepiest. I should have put that on my TTT because I for sure will never read it hahaha. But oh well, I knew I was forgetting something. Also will you be REALLY reading the book that’s chosen? REALLY? I wish you had The Graveyard book or something because I think that’s my favorite “Halloween” read 🙂

  16. Again, I cannot believe how out of tune with the rest of humanity I am. How can anyone look at this list and not vote for Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies!??? It’s CLEARLY the best title I ever read. It kind of reminds me of none pizza with left beef in the sense that it just sounds like the author/editor/marketing people (as a book blogger I should probably know who actually comes up with book titles right?) were SO fed up with trying to come up with a good title that they just went fuck this, if you suggest one more title related to graves or dolls or any night time I’m going to throw up, you want a good title? you want a good title??? ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES how’s that for a title?? I am DONE with this.

I can only hope that that is literally what happens in the book. I’d read it to find out, but scary books are not for me, so clearly YOU need to do it.

  17. I am such a scaredy cat that I avoid horror like the plague, so I’m afraid I haven’t read any of these 🙁
Some of them look really good though, so if I would stop being such a baby I would totally give some of them a go! I hope you enjoy whichever book ends up being your Halloween read 🙂

  18. I love the way you’re doing this week’s topic! All of the books look so creepy and perfect for Halloween, but The Women in the Walls definitely looks like it could be a very scary read! Hope you enjoy whatever book you end up reading for Halloween 🙂

  19. I had no idea Trish Doller had another book out. I’ll have to have a look at The Devil You Know. I’ve heard a lot of mixed views about With Malice, so I’d like to see what your take on the book is. One book you will not find me picking up anytime soon is Amy Chelsea Stacie Dee. I hate those creepy dolls, they can’t be trusted haha.

  20. I voted for Rocks Fall, just because I really want to read that book and don’t know when I’ll manage it, so I figure the next best thing is to make you read it and find out if I’ll like it. Doesn’t look like it’ll win, though, so I guess there goes that plan. 🙂

  21. I voted for Last Seen Leaving, as I really loved it. It looks like The Dead House is winning right now which is a good one too. I loved that one as well. Lots of titles on here I need to read still.

  22. I definitely voted for This is Our Story because I want to see your thoughts and read your review on it! Whichever one you do decide to read, happy reading Shannon! Also I love how you did this week’s post! Such a fun way to pick your next spooky read! I hope you have a good Halloween!
