Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. Because I love books, and you love books, so let’s see the books!
The Books
Juniors by Kaui Hart Hemmings (thanks to Michelle for the trade!)
First & Then by Emma Mills (Thanks to Lori @ Pure Imagination and Macmillan)
Forget Tomorrow by Pintip Dunn and The Revolution of Ivy by Amy Engel (For review- Thanks to Entangled Teen!)
Other Stuff
I obtained my first ever Funko Pop! It’s Katniss, obviously, but it was also the last one at BAM. I also got the (ridiculously expensive) US Weekly Mockingjay Part 2 special. Because of course I did. Also, huge thanks to Victoria Schwab for these gorgeous A Gathering of Shadows pre-order cards!
Weekly Shenanigans
So, I only read two books, which makes it pretty clear that trying a new reading “thing” did not work the way I’d hoped. The good news is that the two books I did finish were fabulous!
Fire Falling. I loved Ivy but holy crap.

Random Musings:
Can someone explain how it is already November tomorrow!? Seriously, I can’t comprehend. Oh, and US states that still do Daylight Savings Time, that ends tomorrow. Extra hour of sleep = Good. Earlier sunrises and sunsets = BAD.
Took the kids to the pumpkin patch last week, and so, picture? Sure!
Because when you’ve spent over $40 to get into the pumpkin patch, you’re hoping to spend most of your time in the sandbox. That you have one of at home.
Things we need to talk about this week:
- November is kind of amazing. Things happening? Mockingjay. My birthday. VAL. Thanksgiving. It’s fairly epic.
- My Hunger Games reread has begun! I am going to try to do 3-4 chapters a night. Want to join me? We can buddy read (Amber is playing too!)
- Halloween plans? Do share! I will be taking the small humans to a few places, and I promise pictures of kids in cute costumes (if you’re lucky, maybe even my kids 😉 )
- November = NaNo. Are you participating? I am going to try, but I lack support and/or childcare, so I am coming to terms with the real possibility that it may not work out. Find me here, if you want to play!
Omg I’m dying of laughter. xD OF COURSE they wanted to play in the thing that you own at home…naturally. LITTLE KIDS. They are so cute and stubborn. -_- (And yours are particularly adorable in their pumpkinness.)
OF COURSE YOU GOT KATNISS. XD And that is the most adorable Funkopop ever.
Eeep, yayyyyy for good reading weeks!! I had two 5-stars so I’m basically busting my brains with complete happiness. :’)
Awesome week for you. It looks like you and your kids enjoyed the Pumkin Patch. Time has really flown by this week. I hope you love all your new books.
Grace @ Books of Love
That Katniss Funkopop is adorable *O* And the pre-order cards are so freaking gorgeous. Ahhh I wish I had more money to spend T_T
I’m glad you enjoyed the books you read this week! Here’s to hoping your streak continues – your haul includes some great books 😀
I also received those Victoria Schwab art cards! They’re so pretty I couldn’t even bear to take off the plastic. I had a terrifying moment when they said AGOS was coming out Winter 2016 and I was like NOOO I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL DECEMBER NEXT YEAR before remembering February counts as winter XD XD Your Katniss Funko Pop is FANTASTIC. Thanks for the shout out!
Yay for new books. I hope you like Juniors!! I love that the kids played int he sandbox. Something mine would do at a pumpkin patch! Too cute. Have fun on Halloween with them. Thanks for the link back! Have a great week!
But that sandbox was SPECIAL. It’s like always wanting the toy the other kid has even though you couldn’t have cared about it less before they had it. 😀 I’ve seen those cards on Victoria Schwab’s twitter before; they’re gorgeous! I still haven’t read ADSoM, I really need to get around to that!
And YAY NaNo! I’m actually doing it this year, and I’m even going to give it a serious try, so ASKLDJSF. I added you! I might also have to pester you with questions about children, because for some reason I decided my main character has a daughter even though I know basically nothing about children, so. Great idea, Vlora. That’s cool, right? Awesome, thanks. 😀 My Halloween plans consist of going to my cousin’s place ordering food and watching Halloween movies.
Happy Halloween to you!
That Pop Katniss is adorable. I was gifted a Dany Targaryena bit ago.
I don’t have any Halloween plans but I am driving into the city today which always makes it seem like a big day. (The city is about 120 miles from where I live so it will definitely be a day trip. Yay for living in rural Montana.)
I hope you have a wonderful November.
Amanda
I’m sorry reading one boom at a time failed. I’m trying two this week, but I don’t think it’s working for me either. Congrats on the Schwab cards! I heard she ran out. Haha I’m sorry your kids only wanted the sandbox. Yay for trying NaNo! I’m going to try again too, but since I failed so spectacularly last year, I don’t have high hopes. Good luck!
Ahhh, NaNo! I won’t be participating (never had any intentions of doing so, over the years) but DO let me know if you will be, I will cheer you on! I LOVE the cover of Forget Tomorrow, it is so great. Have you read First & Then? Really great contemporary (and this is coming from me, who usually can’t stand YA contemporary). I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
Have a fantastic weekend, Shannon. 🙂
Check out my STS post!
Really great wrap up/stacking the shelves post. There are some fab-sounding books in your haul so I’m going to be looking out for them. I’ve just followed your blog via Bloglovin’ so I can keep up with your book posts. 🙂
Here’s my Wrap Up/Stacking the Shelves post: https://rathertoofondofbooks.wordpress.com/2015/10/31/my-weekly-wrap-up-and-stacking-the-shelves-31-october/
A bit hungover from the Halloween party last night. (i do overindulge, often) Tonight it is all about Trick-or-Treating with the two babies. It is f***ing cold here, so I am not sure how to accomplish this without freezing. Layers under costumes? Warm up in the car between houses? Star before the sun goes down? Ugh.
So excited about November books. WINTER is coming out in a few weeks! I am scaling way back to read those books I own that I was so excited about owning.
I did try NaNo last year, and I got exactly nothing done. I am not going to even try this year. It will not fit into the schedule, at all.
Your kiddos look so adorable playing. Glad you all had a good time. All of your books look awesome. Can’t wait to read IVY. I am really intrigued by Forget Tomorrow. I hope you enjoy all your new stuff!
I have no idea how it is already NOVEMBER! And Daylight Savings Time, bah! Is it summer yet? 😉
THAT FUNKO IS PERF. Also, so are your kids. And as it happens, children always plaay with what you have at home (I worked at a pumpkin patch in the kid’s play area for a few years . . . it’s the most common complaint).
-Monica @ Tomes Project
I’ve been looking forward to reading Juniors. It looks really good and I quite liked The Descendants. Thanks for sharing those super cute photos. Love. Happy reading and Halloween!
November noooo, I mean, I’m excited for the stuff that is happening in November but NOVEMBER. I’m absolutely in love with First & Then’s cover, I hope the inside is just as good 😀 Enjoy your new reads!
I can’t believe it’s November either. It’s so crazy! That’s hilarious your kids wanted to play in the sand box more than anything else. I feel like that would be my niece and nephew too!! I didn’t really do much for Halloween – went to a friend’s house for a few hours to hang, eat, watch some Halloween-ish movies in between watching her adorable kid! lol He was a pirate for a few minutes until he started taking the costume off!
First of all, just read your NaNo page and laughed out loud about your book description! As for titles by the way, I suck too. I end up picking the most obvious ones for mine and then the kind of just stick. You can do it Shannon! I believe in you and am excited that its a contemporary book!
I read nothing this week so don’t feel too bad about yours. For Halloween I made a ridiculous amount of cookies and stuff, had a small party with friends, and scared children. It was nice. =)
I am so excited for November! I love the cooler temperatures and the holidays. In Italy, Daylight Savings Time was actually last week. I do believe my dog has more of a problem adjusting than anyone. We usually feed her around 5:30pm, so inevitably when the time falls back in the Fall, she starts fishing for food around 4:00pm. And your kids are SO CUTE!!! Great pictures. I am participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time ever. Yikes, pressure! Since I am unemployed with no kids, I have zero excuses for not doing 50,000 words . . . except, you know, writing is HARD! But it’s day one and I have completed my daily goal. Still trying to decide if I should write more so I can prepare myself for less productive days around day 15. We’ll see. Good luck!
awww those pics are adorable! I love this time of the year, especially with the little ones. The Air Awakens series looks good! I’ll check it out. NaNoWrimo or not NaNoWrimo… hummm.. I’m having the same dilemma and challenges. 🙂 Good luck 🙂
Ah, Katniss!! I NEVER see her at BAM lol
Also, my bday is this month, tooooo! 🙂
Yay for Katniss funko!! I need to check at Hot Topic or Game Stop since they sell funkos. And yay for reading two fabulous books. Better than reading 4 and hating them, right?
Happy Halloween for yesterday! You’ve got a lot of great books in your haul this week! 🙂 I am rather jealous of your Katniss POP! I WANT IT! I want all of the Hunger Games ones, but I am trying to be good with my spending right now. All my spare cash really needs to go towards Christmas presents. But in the NY, I will definitely be getting myself some of those. I really hope you enjoy all of your books.
Charnell @ Reviews from a Bookworm
AHH! The Revolution of Ivy! I can’t wait to read that! I’m going to have got get Air Awakens since I’ve heard so many good things about it. It looks like you guys had a great Halloween! Too bad it’s over. Oh, well, on to Thanksgiving and Christmas! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Michelle @ Michelle’s Minions
Those pre-order cards are really adorable! I don’t usually love things like that, but with those I’m seeing the appeal!
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
All this Hunger Games merch is beautiful and I wanna steal it all, but I would not live if I did that 😛 I saw the magazine in Walmart the other day, but didn’t have any money so I had to mourn on the way out 🙁
You have a handful of awesome and good looking books here! So many genres and beautiful covers! Happy reading and can’t wait to see what you think about them! 🙂
Oh I loved Ivy, I’m glad you did too. I’m excited for November because I love Fall and Thanksgiving. First and Then is another one I’m excited about.
November is amazing, my birthday this month too which means more books!!!
Looking forward to reading the Revolution of Ivy, such a good series!
Have a good week!
Well, of course they want to go to the sandbox! 🙂 Great pictures. I can’t believe it is November either. And I can’t believe you’ve only been blogging for 2 years! I feel like I’ve been following you for longer than that! Hope you have a great first week of November, and thanks for stopping by my Sunday post earlier!
