Sins of the TBR, 2014 Edition

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

Ah, my poor, poor lovelies that I didn’t get to read. In fairness, I do not have them all (except I basically do).  This is such a tiny sample of the books I had to have and didn’t get to yet that it’s kind of obscene. But, alas, I tried to stay within the 10 this week, because who knows what will happen in the weeks to come. I came close, but 12 was the best I could do. I cheat way too much. In alphabetical order by title:

This sounds like my kind of book, so I haven’t a clue why I have yet to read it!

18079804Half Bad by Sally Green

Status: On my Kindle

Published March 4th 2014

I even have Half Wild. Someone, make me read this now! (Cait would probably be good for this task.)

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

Status: In Transit from Book Outlet

Published July 8, 2014

We can attribute the blame for this one to quite a few people, but Holly @ The Fox’s Hideaway is its biggest champion.

Of Metal and Wishes by Sarah Fine

Status: On my Bookshelf

Published: August 5, 2014

I hear so many good things, but I’m still just a bit scared! Retellings, and my phobia, guess I am not fully recovered.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Status: On my Kindle

Published January 28, 2014

Okay, with all this love for Golden Sun (Val @ The Innocent Smiley may love it too much) I know this is one I have to get to ASAP.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Status: On my Bookshelf

We’re going to blame Cait @ Paper Fury for my need for this one, ‘kay?

15789443Something Real by Heather Demetrios

After my flailing over I’ll Meet You There, you can see why I’d need this one!

Torn Away by Jennifer Brown

Status: On my Bookshelf

Published May 6, 2014

I have heard so many amazing things about this one, but I can’t take another tearjerker for at least a couple weeks. (Thanks guys, All the Bright Places has destroyed me.)

20613491Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini

Status: On my Bookshelf

Published September 2, 2014

I don’t even know why I haven’t read this. I don’t think there is an acceptable answer!

I was downright giddy when I won this from Kaitlin @ Reading is My Treasure. But I am scared. Because this one hits really, really close to home and I keep chickening out.

I pre ordered this, so the intent was there. But the reviews aren’t great. So I am, of course, hesitant. But then I read that it was like The Oregon Trail and The Village, sooo… I am back in.

Zodiac stuff is fun. I mean, I don’t believe in it or anything, but it certainly is a unique idea! Also, I love the cover. A lot.

Alright, so tell me: Which of these do I need to get to ASAP? (I will totally read whichever one gets the most mentions!) Which one book from 2014 do you wish you’d gotten to?

  1. Oh my goodness. So many good books on your list! I can’t recommend Something Real enough. I absolutely adored it. I have copies of Torn Away and The Kiss of Deception which I’m really looking forward to. I hope that you enjoy these books when you do get around to them.

  2. I <3 your status update, so creative (in transit from BookOutlet, love it LOL)! I think you made a good decision not reading The Kiss of Deception yet. I literally screamed no (ok maybe just in my mind) when I turned to that last page. The pain is real. Since You've Been Gone is a really fun one 😉 I wish I'd gotten to Heir of Fire. Although the wait will be less painful if I read it closer to the release of book 4 hehe~

  3. Omg it’s so good to know I’m not the only book blogger left who hasn’t ticked Half Bad and Red Rising off their TBR!

Great list! Since You’ve Been Gone is on my TBR, too.

If you want to cross Half Bad off your reading list soon then perhaps we should organise a readalong! 🙂

    • Hahha nope, you are not alone! We may end up being kicked out of the club if we don’t get on it soon though 😉 I DEFINITELY want to read Half Bad soon! Let me know if you want to read together!

  4. Half Bad is really good, a little depressing, but good! and you have no excuses since you already have Half Wild 😉 haha. I also want to read Trial by Fire and The Kiss of Deception – I’ve heard fabulous things about those books!
I’ll check out the books I haven’t heard of! Hope you get a chance to read some of these soon! 😀

  5. Oooh, I’ve actually read two of these: Half Bad and Red Rising! I definitely think you should get on those ASAP because a) you have copies of both and b) the sequels are out and about! Of course, that being said, I do think you sort of have to be in a certain mood to read both since they’re so dark and disturbing! Either way, I hope you like them whenever you get around to reading them 🙂

    • Yes, that is a very good reason indeed! Plus, everyone I know is flailing about them, so yeah, it has to happen! I think I may need a lighter book (I just finished All the Bright Places and want to cry forever!) but after that, one of these is getting read!

    • Aww! I will be honest, I have been not reading too many synopses lately, sometimes I think they spoil too much. SO, I have no idea at this point 😉 Hopefully I won’t end up in tears!

  6. I’ve actually read two on your list. Both Torn Away and Since You’ve Been Gone were great! Something Real didn’t make my list, but it probably should have. It’s on my must read soon this year list though. I just picked up The Red Rising the other day, too. I’ll get to it one day. 🙂

    My TTT!

  7. I know how you feel, there are just so many books I haven’t gotten to! Half Bad made my list too! Yay now I can see what you think before I decide to read it. 😉 Kiss of Deception almost made my list, but since I just decided not to buy it from Bookoutlet it didn’t make the cut. Trial By Fire sounds so good. (also on my list) Yes, you do need to get to Red Rising. I think you’ll really like it too. (and Golden Son is even better!)

    • Ohh, I RAN when I saw it on Book Outlet, because I have had it on my wishlist since.. I don’t know, a long time ago? So I figure it was okay 😉

I actually tried Red Rising, like, last year when it first came out, but I only made it like 10% and was bored, so I put it down for “later”. But now I hear that the parts that bored me weren’t even the majority of the story, so I know I need to give it another chance!

  8. Free to Fall is AMAZING! And the best part is that it’s a standalone – it makes it longer, but the whole plot is there and it’s so thick with fabulousness 😀

I shall also make you read Half Bad! It’s really dark, and actually kind of scary in some ways, but AMAZING. Trial by Fire is another great witch book, especially since it’s all very scientific in the explanations. Plus, there’s another Rowan character and apparently there’s this magical combination of hotness and best friend-ness that goes with that name.

AWWWW SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE! That book is pure sweetness ^_^

    • Ohh I am extra excited about reading it now! And I WILL read Half Bad! I wish I had a physical copy now, but I guess my Kindle one will have to do. Now you have made me want to read ALL the books! Not fair 😉

  9. Something Real, The Kiss of Deception, Red Rising, Zodiac, and Since You’ve Been Gone all should have made it onto my list this week. I hope you love all of the books when you get a chance to read them!

  10. I am currently reading Kiss of Deception, and all I can say is READ IT! It has been too long since I have read a book this good, especially historical fiction types. Red Rising is collecting virtual dust on my e-reader. I just have not found the motivation to read it, but I have been hearing some good reviews lately, so I might move it up on my TBR.

    • Oh wow, that is a pretty great recommendation! As soon as it arrives, I will get on it for sure! Hahahah that is exactly what Red Rising is doing on mine! I hear good reviews too, even better ones about Golden Son!

  11. Torn Away, Half Bad, Since You’ve Been Gone are some I want to read. I bought Zodiac it will be here tomorrow morning and I can’t wait!! I’ve been waiting to read this one from the first time I’ve found it on Goodreads! Great list!

  12. I DO NOT LOVE ANYTHING TOO MUCH. I SEE THAT. But yeah you should get to Red Rising. AND READ ITTTTTTT. GO GO GO GO. And I didn’t know Jennifer Brown wrote anything else besides the Hate List (that was her right? Too lazy to check). I SHOULD LOOK INTO THAT. (I will br reading All the Bright Places today muhahahha)

  13. First of all, Of Metal and Wishes was AMAZING! I put off reading it because I was a bit scared, but it ended up being my favorite book of 2014. I love Phantom and it totally captured the feel of it while still being completely fresh. I was also kind of afraid of it because of the slaughterhouse setting since I’m a vegan, but it worked. Trial By Fire was another favorite of mine last year. I love the whole “ordinary school girl gets transported to an alternate world filled with magic” thing. This one was a little different, too. It had doppelgangers, romance and a truly awesome and tough female main character. Zodiac was a lot of fun. It’s basically a Space Opera with a really unique and imaginative twist using the zodiac. I just bought Half Bad and Winterkill, so I’m hoping to read them finally. I really wanted to read Since You’ve Been Gone, I hear so many good things about it. Red Rising… I feel bad that I haven’t read it yet. I bought a hardcover a long time ago and it got buried in my tbr pile. I also still need to read The Kiss of Deception. I guess we all miss things. I hope you get to read these soon!
