For the past two months, Kitty Doe’s life has been a lie. Forced to impersonate the Prime Minister’s niece, her frustration grows as her trust in her fake fiancé cracks, her real boyfriend is forbidden and the Blackcoats keep her in the dark more than ever. But in the midst of discovering that her role in the Hart family may not be as coincidental as she thought, she’s accused of treason and is forced to face her greatest fear: Elsewhere. A prison where no one can escape. As one shocking revelation leads to the next, Kitty learns the hard way that she can trust no one, not even the people she thought were on her side. With her back against the wall, Kitty wants to believe she’ll do whatever it takes to support the rebellion she believes in—but is she prepared to pay the ultimate price?
What would you do to save someone you love? In FIRE & FLOOD, Tella Holloway faced a dangerous trek through the jungle and across the desert, all to remain a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed for a chance at obtaining the Cure for her brother. She can’t quit–she has to win the race, save Cody, and then fight to make sure the race stops before it can claim any more lives. In the next legs of the race, across the ocean and over mountains, Tella will face frostbite, sharks, avalanche, and twisted new rules in the race. But what if the danger is deeper than that? How do you know who to trust when everyone’s keeping secrets? What do you do when the person you’d relied on most suddenly isn’t there for support? How do you weigh one life against another? The race is coming to an end, and Tella is running out of time, resources, and strength. At the start of the race there were one hundred twenty-two Contenders. As Tella and her remaining friends start the final part of the race, just forty-one are left–and only one can win.
Other Books in Series: The Winner’s Curse
Synopsis:
Book two of the dazzling Winner’s Trilogy is a fight to the death as Kestrel risks betrayal of country for love. The engagement of Lady Kestrel to Valoria’s crown prince means one celebration after another. But to Kestrel it means living in a cage of her own making. As the wedding approaches, she aches to tell Arin the truth about her engagement…if she could only trust him. Yet can she even trust herself? For—unknown to Arin—Kestrel is becoming a skilled practitioner of deceit: an anonymous spy passing information to Herran, and close to uncovering a shocking secret. As Arin enlists dangerous allies in the struggle to keep his country’s freedom, he can’t fight the suspicion that Kestrel knows more than she shows. In the end, it might not be a dagger in the dark that cuts him open, but the truth. And when that happens, Kestrel and Arin learn just how much their crimes will cost them.
I quite like The Winner’s Crime cover too! Although not as much as the first one. And, I’m a little disappointed the font is around the right way. 😉 I knooooow the first one was hard to read, but I still liked it! Also: blue is my favourite. XD
I agree, that the sideways font is better. Yes. BUT. Blue. Blue wins for me, every time. And I LOVE the gleam of the sword. Ah, beautiful! I also now need The Winner’s Curse in hardcover, so they can match and be beautiful together, since you KNOW I have pre-ordered it.
Love how the blue just pops! The trade off is that the detail on the dress is not as obvious. Nevertheless, it is GORGEOUS. I wish they kept the sideways title though, it looked really good from what I see on the ARC cover.
I agree with the title, but I really do think the dress makes up for it! SO, so pretty!
I haven’t read any of these books! I hadn’t heard of Pawn before, but that looks interesting. Winner’s Curse looks good too! Oh my poor to read list! I’m mostly just waiting for Blood of Olympus. 🙂
Hahha you and the Blood of Olympus! Read that, and then read ALL of these! Seriously. I think you’d really like The Winner’s Curse, probably even more than I did.
Me too haven’t read any of these sequels. I’m looking forward for The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey and not looking on reviews till I read the book. 🙂
