From Goodreads:

What if the end of the world was just the beginning? Alice Davenport awakens from a fever to find her mother gone and the city she lives in ravaged by storms – with few survivors. When Alice is finally rescued, she is taken to a huge underground bunker owned by the mysterious Paradigm Industries. As the storms worsen, the hatches close. 87 years later, amidst the ruins of London, the survivors of the Storms have reinvented society. The Model maintains a perfect balance – with inhabitants routinely frozen until they are needed by the Industry. Fifteen-year-old Carter Warren knows his time has come. Awoken from the catacombs as a contender for the role of Controller General, it is his destiny to succeed – where his parents failed. But Carter soon discovers that the world has changed, in ways that make him begin to question everything that he believes in. As Carter is forced to fight for those he loves and even for his life, it seems that the key to the future lies in the secrets of the past…

Why I’m waiting: True story, I did not even read the whole synopsis. I glanced at it, because quite frankly, lately I have been finding synopses to be hindering my reading rather than helping. Giving too much away, for the most part. So I give it a brief look, and go from there. I saw end of the world and 87 years later and survivors and it basically sounded right up my alley. Also, I was digging the cover, and I am easily distracted by fun colors and shiny things.

What are you waiting for this week?

  1. Great pick! I too really want to get my hands on this one though I have heard some mixed reviews of it. Hope you enjoy it and that it looks just as awesome in real life as the cover does online!

    • Mixed reviews make me so nervous! But I think I like mixed reviews better than middle-of-the-road reviews, at least people loved or hated it, rather than feeling “meh”.

    • Hahah thanks! I was so mad after reading a few books that seriously would have been way better if I’d never read the whole summary! So this is my (tentative) new plan. We’ll see how it goes 😉

    • I seriously don’t know why I didn’t see the Divergent similarities! I think it is the color differences or something, but it really did not occur to me. I mean, I see it now of course. But I still like it, probably still because of the fun colors 😉

    • It’s hard for me because on one hand, I would like to have some clue as to what kind of book I am going to read, but then, I don’t want anything spoiled! Skimming has been working for now. Or, only reading the first one or two lines.

  2. Yeah, I’ve stopped reading the synopsis of the ones I have for review (I mean, obviously I read them the first time to see if I’m interested in it) but after that, I leave it alone because going in completely blind gives you the best chance of actually enjoying it than having expectations. Okay, I don’t know if I like the cover or not (because like Snow Like Ashes) it’s pretty divergent-ish.

    Here’s mine

    • Yes, that is what I have been doing too- skimming, and then not looking again. And I really like the Snow Like Ashes cover too- apparently, I just really like seeing the Divergent cover in different colors and fonts 😉
