The 100 Episode 5×07: Acceptable Losses

Just a reminder, spoilers galore!! Like ALL the spoilers- proceed with caution!

Acceptable Losses. Oy, this was a dark episode. And somehow, with it, we are more than halfway through the season and I am not okay with that. That, frankly, is not an acceptable loss. I usually have more GIFs and more time to devote to how I want to break the episode down but… I have been in NOLA. I was actually trying very hard to finish before I left, but such is life. And we get a new episode TONIGHT so yayyy!

“Your Sister Officially Scares Me”

I mean, she scares me too, Harper. There’s a very, very clear divide in this episode between Bellamy and Octavia. Obviously everyone has noticed by now that Octavia has lost her damn mind, but this episode shows us how much Bellamy understands it. I think it sets up the question he’s ultimately going to have to wrestle with: When it comes down to it, whose life will Bellamy save?

But until then, we get to see more of Blodreina’s antics. Where even should I begin? With her using her people as weapons testers? With her smarmily getting Madi to join the dark side? With her flat out giving zero fucks if all her former friends straight up die in Shallow Valley? Because that all happened. And while everyone was horrified, no one seemed particularly shocked at this point. Not even Indra.

In fact, Indra is trying so hard to salvage Octavia’s humanity, that she might just get herself on the “Enemy of Wonkru” list and I don’t even think she’d mind. Octavia is being unreasonable (as per usual) but seems even angrier and more unhinged than usual. She’s pissy at Indra for helping Kane escape but… hasn’t she done about 509 worse things in the last like, day alone? Yet she’s going to rag on Indra, the only person who has had her back unconditionally? Awesome life choices, O.

I can’t imagine what Indra could want to protect her from… ?

A Long Time Ago, We Used to be Friends…

That was cute while it lasted?

Oy, Echo. She’s um, not exactly a fan favorite, but she has grown on me. But I still find her decision making rash and not always the most well thought out. She’s super dedicated to the task at hand, I’ll give her that. But when it comes to thinking of what comes next? Girl’s got no chill. Now, not only has she pissed off their only quasi-ally NotZeke, but she betrayed Raven on so many levels. And, the kicker is, no one in Polis is even going to use the stupid flash drive anyway!

It’s the End of Kabby as We Know It

…and I feel fine? I mean, okay I don’t feel fine, but I also think that for now, it’s tolerable. Kane is understandably pissed that Abby is increasing her drug use instead of trying to temper it, and Abby basically can’t break the habit. First he flips the fuck out because she couldn’t save Karina (and of course, no one knows if the drug use mattered, but also no one wants their doctor to be on drugs, so there’s that) and Abby just won’t stop defending her addiction. Her spiral is quite sad, really.

Eventually, Kane gives her an ultimatum: Him, or the drugs. But not both. And her silence speaks volumes. So as Kane walks out, clearly disgusted (and apparently single) his new pal strolls in. Abby suspects that she too has the Prisonkru Plague, but since Abby’s not exactly on her game, she’s wrong. Oh, our girl has some sickness, but it’s more of the morning variety.

I hear Madi’s looking to make some extra cash baby-sitting the only infant of the post-apocalypse.

The Love Monty Deserves

Ah, this was the Monty episode that we’ve all been begging for, yes? And the one he deserves, frankly. Speaking of getting the love he deserves, don’t want to forget about Jasper. I was going to be pretty sad/salty if Jasper’s death was glossed over. I know it’s been six years, but does a person ever get over the loss of someone who was that close to them? Of course not. So Jasper is giving the team messages from the beyond, and Monty is basically just plain sick of all the fighting and bullshit. Who can blame him?

He honestly should not have to tell them this, but alas.

Monty’s finally reaching his breaking point. He doesn’t want to have to fight for the right to live over and over again. And who would? Granted, Monty’s plan of peace and algae isn’t exactly his best ever, but I totally feel him not wanting to lose more friends over stuff that can honestly be fixed if people would stop being assholes. That’s literally it- if they could be peaceful/non-assholey, there’d be no more problems. But here we are.

Fleimkepa’s Gonna Fleimkep

Oh, Gaia, she just can’t give up the flame. Or natblidas in general I guess. Which… I suppose is fair, considering she’s spent her life high key obsessed with it. Plus, it gives Clarke a much needed ally in the whole “keeping Madi from making terrible life choices” situation. But #TeamMadi is kind of losing. Even though Clarke and Gaia told Madi about 392 times that she had to play it cool while fighting in front of Octavia, she just couldn’t. Guess her pride got in the way, because she flat out couldn’t let that troll Ethan beat her. Understandable, because he sucks.

But girl, pride is going to cost you. Both Clarke and Gaia looked horrified as Octavia practically glowed with glee at Madi’s skills. Then Octavia decided that she was going to rub it in to Clarke, making Madi her second and telling Clarke she needed to take Madi. There was actual evil in Octavia’s eyes in the moment that she looked at Clarke and basically stole her kid. Clarke holds it together, but barely. And then decides that all bets are off, and O’s gotta go.

Sign me up!

Song of the Week:

Such a cheat, because it’s from the actual episode, but it’s pretty great! It is called Howl by Jake Houlsby

Random Thoughts:

  • Does Papa McCreary know or care about Mini-Charmaine? I need to see the look on his face if at all possible, please and thank you.
  • Is NotZeke going to forgive Raven? Or more importantly, is Raven going to forgive Echo? I think this is going to be a huge indicator of how tight Spacekru actually is.
  • I’m honestly not shocked that Ethan sucks. His dad is Five-Year-Old-Dad, he then got passed along to “Uncle Theo”, then was raised by actual wolves Octavia and Kara. Dude never stood a chance.
  • Can someone please give Harper something to do? I mean, other than standing around looking uncomfortable? She’s awesome and she deserves more than a line here and there to chime in on Monty’s behalf.
  • I miss Jasper. That’s it, it just needed to be said.

Episode 5×08: How We Get to Peace

Oh Kane, you sweet summer child. A trading post. Niylah can’t even work there because she drank too much of the kool-aid! You do have a shot of Indra running it though, as long as O doesn’t kill her first. Kane is obviously right about their humanity. But will anyone listen? I doubt it.

  • Kiyoza is just a thing now right? I figure, Charm sees a wayyy better baby daddy in the form of Kane, so… who can blame a girl? No one wants Papa McCreary swaddling their infant, amirite?
  • Will anyone be able to get through to O? My vote is no, honestly. She’s kind of got the crazy eyes at this point, and I don’t think there’s any coming back from the crazy eyes.
  • Can Diyoza please kill Kara? I have no basis to believe that this will happen in this, or any other episode, but it’s my actual dream scenario. And if Diyoza can’t, I’d be fine with anyone doing it.

Are you excited for tonight’s episode? Sad about Kabby? Would you forgive Echo? So much to talk about!

  1. More than halfway?? *sputter* That is… scary. But man did Harper have it right! And the Indra thing is super interesting because she basically trained O, made her her second, is totally her mentor, and is now like… bitch is crazy. And Indra’s not exactly a diplomat, so if SHE’S had enough of Blodreina, you know something’s wrong lol.O better not kill Indra!!!!

I think it’s interesting too that we may never know if Abby could have saved Karina, which adds a tragic element tothe Kabby thing. And the ultimatum! Dang… talk about laying it on the line. I love how they don’t waste time on this show- they want to challenge Kabby as a couple, and bam they do it. Some shows would take all season to meander their way through this.

If everyone would just listen to Monty and eat the damn algae life would be good.

I love that Clarke is like eff that shit when O pulled that stunt with Madi. At this point I’m ready for Wanheda to take Blodreina down! I like Clarke when she’s pissed and driven.

Okay the random thoughts. Kiyoza, Kiyoza *chants* And death to Kara! Pleeeaase… Raven/Echo/ Zeke is huge, I think this will totally test Recho and I’m here for it!

    • RIght? HOW is it more than halfway? Did we not wait for 39 years for it? Sobs. At least Harper kills the one line she gets a week? (I am so salty hah) And YES- the Indra thing is so damn fascinating, because of ALL those things. I am seriously worried for Indra at this point. Because even though I *think* (fine, HOPE) that O has just enough self-control left to not kill Indra, Kara would kill her in a nanosecond- hell, I am mostly convinced that Kara ratted Indra out to O just to try to GET Indra killed- it’s clear that Kara doesn’t like having Indra in a higher position than her. My maybe-theory is mostly that Kara is crazier than O and will end up going batshit and maybe THAT will be what it takes to snap O out of it?

YES! Yes you are right, because yeah, a bullet wound (and one poked at by Echo, no less) could have easily killed Karina- especially since it took so long to get her medical help. BUT… there’s always going to be that “what if?” surrounding it. You are SO right, can you imagine how long this would have been dragged out on a show like TWD? 7 seasons, easily ? I think it was time for the ultimatum and I am glad Kane did it, even though we know it won’t actually help her get off drugs. At least maybe Kane can find a modicum of peace? (This is another reason that the time jump works- it’s believable that he’d have given up after 6 years- but it wouldn’t have been after 6 episodes normally!)

HA right? Okay so maybe the cuisine would leave a bit to be desired, but worth it for a life without bullets and shock collars? Decent trade, anyway. Plus he can still make moonshine so who cares! (Speaking of- there was a cocktail in this bar in NOLA with moonshine! Fun!)

Seriously, peaceful Clarke is getting boring, bring back Wanheda! (In seriousness, I like how much calmer she and Bellamy have been, but I think their time is up for peaceful living.) AND it is kind of an epic match-up, and two women who will stop at NOTHING to win this fight. Clarke more determined than ever because of Madi, and O just having gone off the deep end hah.

I am hoping for some SERIOUS Kiyoza tonight, so I will keep you posted on THAT obviously. And ugh if someone kills Kara I will probably spoil you just out of sheer excitement? I think that Zeke is going to be a BIG problem for the Spacekru/Raven alliance- OR maybe half of them will side with Raven, and half (and by half I mean Bellamy) will side with Echo? This could get quite interesting!

  2. AH I NEED TO WATCH TONIGHT’S EPISODE, BUT?? ISN’T MCCREARY A HOSTAGE BY MEMORI?

I’m not rational with my emotions on days when The 100 is on.

      • It’s sooo ridiculous! And I totally watched it. I have all the thoughts and feels. Ugh. These waits are starting to feel like betrayals.

      • Actually, can you delete the reply I made to myself and do this one instead? It was an accident. :/

Regarding Echo: I’ve grown to respect her. Like Diyoza, she’s strategic and knows what needs to be done, even if it results in betrayal of someone else. I’m starting to respect Diyoza as well. I think she’s making a lot of decisions based on her pregnancy. But…is her pregnancy the actress’s reality, too? Because I remember reading something like, “She’s pregnant, so we have to be careful what angles we show her from.”

NEVER MIND, IT TOTALLY WAS REAL! I was impressed, to be honest, because in the show, it didn’t look like that lolol-let’s-fake-a-pregnancy-k ish that shows tend to do. https://www.instagram.com/p/BiPcfr7AnGI/?taken-by=ivanamilicevic

But I’ll wait until your recap for this week’s ep so I can discuss it with you, so I don’t force you to leak spoilers for peeps who haven’t seen it yet! 🙂

        • Okay hopefully I deleted the right one haha.

I mean- I DO like Echo in some ways. In other ways she irritates me so it’s hard! I mean- I don’t even dislike her when she’s irritating me though so I guess that has to be a good sign? I just REALLY need her to save Raven from Raven, which I talked about in this week’s post.

I LOVE Diyoza. And I knew we would, and I am so excited that I was right! I wondered how they were going to work her pregnancy in- especially in the scene with Kane and the tequila because you could SEE Ivana’s stomach growing! But OMG I had not seen her baby and he is SO CUTE! Now I am following her on Insta too hahahha, thanks!!

  3. Beth W

Agreed that Harper needs some arc. She had a great one when we first met her, and I thought she was expendable extra #2. And she had another great one with wrestling with the incoming end of all things (and being the only person who battled through the existential crisis/depression and decided she wanted to live). So we need more.

I like a bit of science in my scifi, so C-skillet being preggers makes me think she was extra EXTRA motivated to get to earth. Babies gestating in and born in space are likely to have a lot of developmental issues, and may never be able to survive in Earth-level gravity with solar radiation and real food. So of everyone fighting for Shallow Valley, my money is on the new mama bear. If we could get all of Team Mama Bear (her, Clarke, and Indra) on the same side, they’d be running the joint *and* everyone would be happy.

Also, I approve of Echo’s choice. Sucks that it is for nothing now, but Zeke caused Raven to be tortured, and she’s still got horrific burn scars/chafing with that collar. Now he gets a taste of it. He was an unreliable ally anyway, since he’s not exactly on the side of peace (just anti-mass execution). Maybe they can build that bridge, but Echo made the strategy call as she’s trained to do…and at least Raven ran with it (even if she resents it) rather than betraying that opportunity.

    • Ugh, Harper’s lack of a proper storyline has to be one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, complaint I have for S5.

Ohhhhh I LOVE THIS information about space babies!!! I had NO IDEA oh my goodness! Okay so- what does the fact that the fetus is really old (via cryo) mean for it? And you have SUCH a good point, if the moms banded together, Earth would be fabulous!

I DO see your point about Echo. I just think she needs to think some of this crap through better! Not even because I care about Zeke at this point, but because of the ramifications to future plans. But… well you have moved past this episode so you know it’s a moot point hahah

      • Beth W

Well, cryo is basically magic at this point, so they can nerf the storyline however they need to. But considering they’ve posited that cryo keeps you ageless (meaning all those injured people won’t have healed in those 125 years, including Kane), I presume Diyoza’s fetus will be halted in development as well. Now, we know nothing about the planet- does it have the same gravity as Earth? The same carbon-based lifeforms? If not, everyone could be in for some difficult times….but knowing this show, they’ll make it a very Earth-like planet in all those little ways, and Diyoza will get to have a normal baby on Earth. And knowing this show (which has some great writing, even when light on the science), Jordan won’t have an issue on the planet, either, despite growing up in fake gravity and without sunlight.

        • The only thing we know about the planet is that there are two suns. And um… probably Eligius III’s decedents. And some alien life form. I REALLY hope they address some of the stuff you mention (that is one of the things I am loving most about The Expanse actually- all the really scientific crap that happens to people- it’s so fascinating!) But based on the few pictures, it DOES look quite earth-like so I fear you’re right. Though I guess if they traveled that far to get to it, it better be pretty decent hah. Though I also look forward to seeing what happens when the injured people wake up- I have a feeling THAT will be some drama- hell, maybe they just leave Kane in there awhile while they figure it all out!
