A few times, I told you about the shows I watched. And it was fun, so I am going to do it again! This was another really good batch, but I have also been more willing to quit stuff I don’t like. Also, I spend a significant portion of my time rewatching The 100, so.

So, a list of the shows I’ve been watching since whenever the hell the last post posted was! Also wow wee, I have watched enough stuff to make a fifteenth one of these? Moderately impressed and/or ashamed with myself!

Renewed for Season 2

Okay so I loved the book version of this, and was giddy excited for the show. So, maybe some unfair expectations on my part. Plus, I think it is a little bit less exciting when you know all the stuff, and I cannot fault the show for that!

But the twists are not.

I also didn’t fully love Joel Edgerton as Jason, and here is why: he was way too good at playing Bad Jason, which sort of made me hate all the Jasons, regardless. So yeah. I did enjoy the female cast though! And I guess there will be more twists and such to come, since the book was just the one book and the show has been renewed. Obviously the multiverse premise is very cool, and hands down my favorite part was seeing all the other worlds!

Honestly, not this one. Someone bring me the damn box!

So I think YMMV depending on your history with the book, but I think overall it is worth it. Especially since we’ll be getting a new story next season, it seems like it very well could provide those twists I was missing in the first season. And I think if you haven’t read the book, the show will be a bit more thrilling too. But if I am being honest, the book is still better.

Verdict: 👍

Limited Series

I had no recollection of this series. In fact, I had full-stop confused it with another series. Then, I went looking for GIFs (none exist, nor do any variety of clips in which to make GIFs) and realized “whoops, wrong show”. So that is to say, it was a wee bit forgettable? And then, I couldn’t remember what actually happened in this show (though it did happen to be shockingly similar to that other show), so I went to Reddit where a bunch of people spoiled the whole thing properly for me. I still only sort of remembered it, and I still confuse it with Other Sci-Fi™, so that isn’t really a glowing endorsement, is it?

Here have a trailer, since apparently this thing is not destined to be GIFed.

Here’s the good news: it is fairly short (only like 4 episodes, though I could be wrong because I remember nothing). And I did mark that I liked it on my “shows for next shows post” notes app list. So there you have it. I liked it enough to remember none of it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Verdict: 👍

2024 ♦ AMC+

Limited Series

I wasn’t going to watch this, friends. I just wasn’t. It isn’t that I didn’t like Rick or Michonne, it’s that I was wholly apathetic toward them, especially their relationship. And we all know how the TWD universe loves beating excessively deceased horses, so. But I gave in, mostly so I could justify spending the $9/month for AMC to wait for shows like Dark Winds and Snowpiercer that I actually cared about, whoops.

I mean, glad they  reconnected?

But I will be damned, this shit was actually good! First of all, it is so clear to see how much Danai and Andrew cared about the story. They poured themselves into the whole production, not just the acting, and it shows. I never fully believed their relationship, Idk why, but it is clear that they have some sort of chemistry, even if it didn’t always feel as romantic as I hoped. The love still shone through, and I’ll take it.

See? The emotion, it is real.

Also, truly, Danai is a hell of an actress. Really, she was next-level phenomenal. Oh, and Jadis is back, with legit the stupidest haircut in the history of hair! Honestly, it was just a really refreshing take on TWD, which I did not expect, and was incredibly pleasantly surprised with. And, it ends. Like it actually ends in a way that they may not continue to kick at for the next thirty years. So if you’re on the fence, take this as your sign that it’s worth it!

Indeed it is, Rick. Indeed it is.

Verdict: 👍👍

2 Seasons; Renewed For Season 3

Invasion has some definite War of the Worlds vibes, but it is definitely its own show! While the basics may be similar (some kind of maybe-alien entity is creating an apocalyptic situation), it doesn’t follow the same path. And okay, maybe there is some business of teens being able to communicate with the entity, but truly it doesn’t feel that similar.

Okay these guys aren’t exactly dissimilar but….

For one thing, we’re following several different groups of people all over the world. From US soldiers in Afghanistan, to the aforementioned teens in the UK, to a mom in upstate NY trying to save her family, to a scientist in Japan worried about her lover in space, we’re seeing the fallout literally all over the world.

Right in the feels.

I don’t want to give too much away, but I love seeing where this one goes, both literally and figuratively. It is definitely incredibly high stakes, but it is also a little more hopeful than WOtW, which I liked. And there is some levity at times, though it is still quite dark. Definitely thought provoking, very intense, but also certainly character-focused too, the balance feels quite well done and I am excited for Season 3!

It me, looking for S3.

 Verdict: 👍👍

2024 ♦ MGM+

Limited Series

Oh. My. Goodness. I loooooved this one. My only complaint? It could have been longer! Should have been longer, really. And not even multiple seasons, but just… had they given us 3 or 4 more episodes it would have been sheer perfection.

Me, when this ended and I had to go on living without it.

So, we meet Ish (Alexander Ludwig, who is freaking fabulous and should be in all the things I watch from now on) who basically gets bit by a snake and passes out, therefore sleeping through the apocalypse. Legit, homie almost dies, but that saves him! So fun! But when he wakes up, whoopsie, everyone is dead!

Oop.

So begins the journey. Obviously, Ish doesn’t stay totally alone forever- that would be one hell of a boring show! But the meat and potatoes of this is truly the friends he makes along the way, so I haven’t any plans to ruin it for you. And of course, the whole rebuilding of the world after mankind is decimated. It’s very thought provoking, very moving, and definitely character-driven. I cannot recommend it enough. Also, for my The 100 fans, Luisa d’Oliveira has a big role in this one, and she is phenomenal, as usual.

 Verdict: 👍👍

What are some of your current favorite shows? Anything I must watch? Have you seen any of these? I am  always here for recommendations/peer pressure (obviously, heh)!

  1. Of these I have only seen Dark Matter. I am currently juggling a few shows.. American Primeval, Landman, Severance and The Pitt. I have to wait for more episodes to come out so I can binge.

  2. I haven’t watched any of these – yet. Some shows that I’ve recently that I’ve really loved: Interview with the Vampire, The Terror season 1, and Dark Winds (I’m dying for season 3 and hope it will be available on Netflix pretty soon after it comes out on AMC. I’m also loving the new 5th seasons of both Miss Scarlet and All Creatures Great and Small on PBS.

  3. I watched Dark Matter and loved it a lot! But *peers out of the box of shame* I haven’t read the book yet 😂 After reading your reviews I’m definitely adding Invasion to my list!

Recently, I rewatched The 10th Kingdom and it has been a blast, the humor, and the aesthetics are simply unmatched 😂 I’m also looking forward to Severance season 2! If you haven’t already, I recommend watching this show 😄

  4. Well, balls, I don’t *have* MGM. Boo. 🙁 But they all do look good. I’m still surprised (and happily so) that the TWD spinoff worked and worked well. I haven’t seen it, but I wasn’t even going to try until now. Not that I will have AMC after I move, either. Bah! No time for TV, but need all the TV now. One I’d put on your list that’s a fun but sometimes creepy supernatural romp is Renegade Nell (I think it’s on Netflix?). I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m thoroughly enjoying watching it.
