Shenanigans Since Last Time:

I read 15 books. Who even am I?

Most of them were decent, too. I read a couple (Neverwake and This Splintered Silence) as a part of the FraterFest Readathon, so that’s fun. A pretty good bunch. A few that were quite pleasant surprises, actually!

Here are some of the loveliest/most entertaining/super helpful/just plain interesting posts I found this month!

Fancy & New Since Last I Saw You!

I love looking at pretty covers! So here are some new ones that I have fallen in love with since our last update!

Holy cover month, Batman! Here for it. Look at the gorgeousness! I was going to tone it down tbh, and actually had a little discussion with myself (it went something like “really, a girl dressed as a hot dog?”), but then I decided that of course you need to look at all the prettiness. In whatever form it comes in. Even hot dogs.

Things we need to talk about at this juncture:

  • I wrote a post for Shattering StigmasIt was really hard, and really uncomfortable, but it was also really cathartic. If you feel like reading it, have at it!
  • Bookish Games is officially kicking my ass. I will probably be dead in a few hours actually, so… guess it won’t be kicking my ass anymore. Or if it is, it’ll be from the Dead Player Chat. Sadness.
  • The 100 hiatus is still going strong, with very few updates. Like… none actually. No episode titles or new cast, or anything. Damn it Jason, feeeeeed me.
  • The Walking Dead has been actually decent so far? Wow, I was about to abandon all hope, but Season 9 is… not terrible so far? Who knows if it’ll last but fingers crossed! Also watching The Expanse and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. So I guess I might survive the hiatus after all?

Happy Halloween! Anyone have any great costumes to share? I need pictures!  And have a great November, loves!

    • It really is cute! I am so sorry Disney hates you- I don’t understand why they would, you’re a delightful person!

Mary IS so nice, right? Somehow I *still* have not read any of her books though, and that is such a fail. NOW, I will absolutely read one, so yay! (The plus side of review copies for me is I ALWAYS read them. Whereas books I actually buy…. no.)

  1. Thank you so much for sharing my post, I’m so happy you enjoyed it! 🙂
You got some great bookmail this month, that’s amazing! I’m really curious about Meet Me In Outer Space, it sounds like such a sweet, interesting read <3
And I'm curious – did you enjoy the Similars? I've been dying to read this one for so long, it sounds so good and I love that cover, too 😀
    I hope you'll have a great November, Shannon <3

    • Aw of course! Meet Me In Outer Space does look cute- I like that it is set in college too, more of those please!

The Similars… I liked it. I didn’t *love* it, it has some tropey/easy moments, but it was entertaining, so I was glad to have read it. I’ll probably read the sequel, too. And thanks so much, you too! ♥

  2. Ooo you go the new Barnes too, I hope it’s nice and twisty!

15 books is mad impressive. I think I’ll clock in at 9 books but I’m still gonna try to squeeze another in!

My Halloween costume is a DIY alien from Toy Story (da claaawww).

    • I hope so too! I have actually never read one of her books before so I am really excited to try it- I have heard SO many good things.

Seriously, it has been a long time since I read so many- and I know it’ll be a long time til I do again hah. I hope you got your tenth one in!

AW I love that!! Share pictures!!

  3. Molly Mortensen

I tried Sabrina but the first episode wasn’t great. Does it get better? I love the Expanse!! You should so read the books! They’re of course way better! My favorite characters are Avaserala and Amos!

    • I am only on episode 2 I think? Or 3? I honestly can’t remember so apparently, it is also wowing me 😂 I don’t dislike it, I just don’t know what to make of it yet. I think the episodes are too long. But it is definitely VERY dark.

OOOH I really should read the books! I like sci-fi so I probably would like them! Does the show follow the books closely?

      • Molly Mortensen

It sticks pretty close to the books for the first couple seasons but season 3 was quite different. (They did try to cover an entire book in half a season.) Some characters come in later in the books too, like Avaserala and Bobby. Book two was my favorite!

        • Oh WOW that is bananas! I am on S2 now so I am pretty curious. OH Avasarala is later in the books? This will be backward for me, reading the books AFTER- though that is what I did with The 100. I wonder what Season 4 will be like. There are a lot of books, yeah?

          • Molly Mortensen

Yeah, Avaserala doesn’t come in until book two. Haha I often watch the show/movie first. I did this time too for season 1-2. There are going to be 9 books total but only 7 are out. 8 was recently delayed… (And shorts and novellas but most of those aren’t as good.)

  4. THOSE COVERS THOUGH. Our eyeballs are being blessed ahh!! I need to go check I have them added now.😂Because…I have like zero standards for YA anymore and I just want to read everything pretty. :’)

Also congrats on getting 15 books done!! I sneaked in several novellas this month so now I’m ahead of my Goodreads goal.😂Sneeeeaky me. And omg Dry though! I’m still thinking about it!!

    • Right!?!? I love pretty. Who even cares what it is about hahah. Speaking of, do we get YOUR next cover soon? Because I have a need.

OH good job on being ahead of your goal! I too got some novellas in, no shame. Because we read 600 page books and those only count once, so… novellas just even things out 😂

  5. I can’t even remember when I last read THAT many books in a month. It was bazillion years ago, for sure. I totally want to read To Best The Boys and Warrior of the Wild so bad. THOSE COVERS ARE SO STUNNING. I’m especially in love with WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH and HOT DOG GIRL looks so incredibly adorable. All of those are pretty and on point. Good post is good.

    • It’s funny- only one time in my life have I ever read *more* than 15 (it was only 16 haha), I feel like no matter what is happening, my body’s limit is 15. Of course, many months are much lower, so this was a happy accident!

Aw thank youuuu! Seriously, I will be even more broke after buying all the pretty covered books! 😂

  6. I am trying to pick my jaw up off the floor for all the books I am drooling over. Little White Lies, Match Me If You Can, Meet Me in Outer Space, How (Not) to Ask a Boy to Prom are all books I am eagerly awaiting. I will wait and see what you thought about two of the books you read. they were 5-star reads for me, so I hope you didn’t hate them.

    • I know you do not read physical books often but… the Mac books you mentioned are ones I probably won’t read myself, since you know, fluffy haha. So if you do want them, let me know (if not I will probably trade them to a loving, fluffy home, while I find something more apocalypse-y 😂)

Ohhhh NOW I am curious! I hope I didn’t hate them too hahahah. I actually didn’t really hate ANY of these though, so they’re probably fairly safe!

  7. Ooh Warrior of the Wild. And how did you like Never Wake?

Let’s Call It A Doomsday wins cover of the day for me. Looks fun!

I’m loving The Expanse. Who knew?? And Sabrina lol… that show’s crazy. 🙂

    • Neverwake was good! It was like- a little predictable in spots, but still pretty good. And super quick, yay!

I LOVE that cover- so different! And I really liked the author’s first book, so I need it.

Seriously, The Expanse is so good. Sabrina is… well, I think the jury’s still out, yeah? Maybe Sinclair will help!

  8. Beth W

All the pretty covers are giving me gimme hands! And look at all the bookish love you got- yay!
I’m now on season 4 of The 100, and spending a lot of time yelling at the TV screen. Now that I know there’s a hiatus, I better slow down so I don’t end up caught up and then having to wait. Except….nevermind, I need more Bellamy. Onward with the bingeing!

    • OOOOOH I am SO EXCITED that you are watching The 100! So I am on Season 4 now too (on my rewatch) so this is even MORE fun! You must share ALL the thoughts when you are done! Or whenever because I am here for it haha.

Also, this is the second mention of The Expanse books being amazing, now I MUST check them out! Does the show follow the books, or is it more like The 100 and they’re totally separate?

      • Beth W

Ha! Prepare for some The 100 tweets at you, then. 😁 The Expanse books are much better than the show. The show compresses the books a lot- the first season was a sped-up adaptation of the first book, but the second season was books 2 and 3 smashed together with a lot cut out.

        • Your The 100 tweets were fabulous! Have you started S5 yet?! People either love it (me) or hate it (Idk, people who are wrong 😂)

Ooooh then I definitely need to read the books- because I kind of feel like the one thing I don’t totally love about the show is that I want to know the characters better- and I assume the book does that better?

          • Beth W

Yay! I just started season 5 (and because I’m still exhausted/ill and still binging, I’m now on episode 5). There are some elements that feel recycled/forced, but I’m enjoying it and I’m eager to see where it goes with the three prison characters who have a personality. Also loving the addict Abbey undercurrent, the mystery of the Black Year, and…well, always loving Kane. And Murphy- stepping up and making me proud. 😀

  9. So many great books here! I want to read DRY, SIMILARS, and both Lydia Kang books. They’re in my queue for sure. The Expanse is an excellent adaptation of the books, but the books are AMAZING. I’ve listened to them all in audiobook.

    • Aw thanks! Dry was fabulous, Similars was pretty good, and Toxic was quite good too- I liked the concept a lot, and it delivered for me! Okay now I am ABSOLUTELY going to get The Expanse books- at least the first one! You have all convinced me hahaha. But I am glad that the show does the books justice, too!

  10. Danielle Hammelef

I loved looking at all the beautiful covers. It reminds me of how many books I want to read this year still. I try not to watch too much TV, though my family has been watching The Good Doctor while I’m cooking dinner so I am enjoying this medical drama.

  11. OOoh! Lots of awesome books here! I seriously wanted the UK edition of Muse of Nightmares, but unfortunately, I can’t find a copy of the UK edition of Strange the Dreamer anyway and it’s preventing me from getting Muse of Nightmares! Did you get the UK edition of Strange the Dreamer and if you did, where did you get it from?

  12. Rebecca

I am overwhelmed with all the books! Added so many new titles to my TBR after this post and now have a gazillion tabs open and covers to gaze at. Also, 15 books. GO YOU.

  13. I *cannot* wait for Nadine’s new novel! It sounds SO good (and I love the Anastasia “fairy tale,” so…). Also, “Match Me If You Can” is one I have on my shelf, and am eager to read, and I will be ordered Jennifer’s asap. It sound so fun. 🙂

…thank you SO much for the kind shout-out, Shannon. I so appreciate this. 🙂

  14. Kel

So many books!! I liked Stars Uncharted and I’m really interested to see how To Best the Boys is. I don’t know how you’re getting all this reading done, but I am impressed. Congratulations! 🙂 No fun Halloween pictures here. I made up some little candy cups for my neighbors since the apartment complex doesn’t really do trick-or-treating, but that’s about it. Hope November reading is going well so far!
