Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR

Oh, how cute, another TBR! I fail at these on the regular, but it still seems worth trying? Maybe? Let’s check in on how I did on my fall TBR, shall we?

Frontlist: 6/10 Read. Well, that’s a surprisingly high percentage, especially for me. Color me surprised!

Backlist: 3/12 Read. Ahhh yes, this sounds much more like me. Half of those books will probs be on this TBR too, let’s be real.

The Books I Will Actually Definitely Read.

(Because they are review books)

The Books I Might Read One or Two Of

(But lie to myself and pretend I will read them all)

I won’t pretend that half of this weren’t on my last list. Probably the list before that, if you check. And next time? Yep, probably will still be around.

How do you guys do with TBRs? Do you find that ARCs help with the indecision? I didn’t have any ARCs for a second this fall, and I couldn’t figure out what to read, so here we are. Which ones should I read ASAP?

  1. I like how you divided your list up. 🙂 I kind of feel like that’s how mine will go when all is said and done. I’m terrible at following lists–and yet I love making lists of books to read. I wish I could say that I am better about putting ARC’s above my purchased TBR books, but this year I have been all over the place. You’ve got a great list here! Several of the books on your TBR pile are ones I hope to read eventually. Brightly Burning is on my wish list as is A Conspiracy of Stars. I hope you enjoy both! I hope you enjoy your winter reading!

  2. I fail – epically so – at TBRs ALL THE TIME. But, I do enjoy putting them together, so that’s one topic I don’t like to miss. 🙂

‘Midnight’ and “Heart of Iron” are two winter releases I’m *really* curious about – though I suspect they’ll be VERY different. I’m also curious about “More than We Can Tell” too! Oh, and I spy Mary Weber’s ‘Sofi Snow’ on that stack too.

    Happy winter TBR-ing, Shannon!

  3. I have mixed feelings about TBRs. I used to absolutely love them when I wasn’t a mood reader. However, since I’ve become a mood reader I find it really hard to just pick up a book I’ve said I want to read. I have to be in the right mood for it. At the same time, I do like having some ideas of what to read next. After all, I’ve got way too many books on my TBR and making decisions is hard! 🙂 I hope you get around to these books at some point!

  4. Ooh I hope you read A Closed and Common Orbit. Not as good as the first book (in my opinion- some think it better?) but still- awesome read. Love her stuff. The City of Brass I’m really curious about, and Sofi Snow too actually.

  5. I am really excited about IN HER SKIN. I really liked Kim Savage’s first book, but then you KNOW how we felt about her 2nd one!!! So yeah, I am super hoping that this 3rd one will be awesome again. Also, I’m on the fence about IN SEARCH OF– I really hated that author’s first book 🙁 But it sounds interesting!! Happy reading!!! (and I totally fail at all my TBR lists too, so you’re not alone).

  6. I am insane with envy that you have More Than We Can Tell. I so want to read Rev’s story! When I picked my winter TBR, it was based on books I had. I read a lot of books, so time is not the biggest obstacle for me, having access to the book is. My eyes are the bane of my existence, so eBooks are more pleasurable for me to read, and my library’s ebook selection is terrible. They have a lot of books I want to read in print, but it’s really a chore for me with the small print and lack of white space. The audio selection on Hoopla is quite good, but I miss details, and there are books that I just need to read to fully enjoy. Good luck with your goals! Hope you love them all!

  7. OMG THIS TBR IS BEAUTIFUL! I’m so freaking excited for To Kill a Kingdom!! I beta read a novel for Allie a looong time ago (not this one?) and her writing was so so stunning so afjdskalfd definitely recommend you read that one soon! (I’m dying for it.?) And I’m actually feeling really out of the loop because I don’t even recognise HALF these books?! Sheesh, Cait, you’ve been napping or something. So I’m off to add them. My TBR hates me, but whatever.

(And I SUCK at planning TBRs. I am too much of a mood reader! Although currently trying to clear out some of my older eARCs before next year…I just read one I should’ve reviewed in March so. Go me? *blinks guiltily*)

Hahaha, I’m exactly the same! I can only guarantee I’ll read review books because they come with deadlines, which I apparently need to function optimally. When the initial excitement has passed for a non-review book, I sometimes have to avoid other reviews of it because it’s too easy to get un-excited and even less likely to read it if I hear anything portending any feeling less than love. I’d totally offer to take all the poor, unloved ARCs off your hands, but I’d probably be just as bad about getting to them (with maybe a few exceptions if I’m really excited for something). (Okay, let’s face it, I’d still take them off your hands because I’m a book hoarder, but they probably have a better chance of getting read with you. Especially now. Boo finals!)

I think the only book on this list I’ve read is Evaporation of Sofi Snow, which had very pretty writing and interesting sci-fi elements, but didn’t grab me as much as I’d hoped. I have a Heart of Iron eARC I need to get to if you need to buddy read something over Christmas break. 😉 Good luck!

  9. Poinsettia

I’m not very good at keeping my tbr list down either. I’m always adding to it no matter how much I read! Plus, I tend to just read whatever sounds good at the moment, so I never stick to a specific list, unless they are books for review. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  10. Great list, Shannon! I hope you manage to get to lots of these and enjoy them. =) Dread Nation sounds wonderful, I’ll be keeping my eye out for that one next year and would be very interested in what you have to say about it, and Devils Unto Dust looks sooo cool! That one’s going straight on my TBR, it’s giving me Blood Red Road vibes and I love that book.

  11. I had to laugh at seeing The Next Together on your “maybe” list because I’ve been “maybe” going to read that one for about 2 years now. LOL It just continues to sit prettily on my shelf, mocking me occasionally, and I keep telling it, “I know, I know, your time will come.” *sigh*

  12. I hope you get a chance to read all these! I think I do okay with TBRs? I try to keep my pile of unread books to a manageable level. I might struggle with my winter TBR because I don’t own all the books I want to read. I have to acquire them from somewhere, and that might not happen.

  13. ARCs definitely help direct my reading, and I can see how suddenly not having any piled up would make it hard to actually have to choose. I do okay with TBRs, but I definitely have to put more books on the list than I actually think I will read so that I have room to mood read.

  14. I got some arcs this week and they make me more stressed about my tbr than I otherwise would be because now I have to shovel them in amongst all the other books I want to read, haha.

  15. I’m not too much of a mood reader, which is good, because if I’m not reading something for review, then there are tons of books I own that I would happily dive into. I need more time for my owned/older books, so that’s probably what half of my winter TBR would look like!

  16. Omg I am super jealous at everyone’s ARC copy of To Kill a Kingdom! I love Allie <3 I've got some of these on my Kindle actually. A Closed and Common Orbit is so good! I think ARCs add to my guilt and procrastination over reading them TBR.

  17. I think you and I have talked about this before but I have a reading schedule I make twice a year to figure out which books I’m going to read. Most of the time I try to prioritize the books I really want to read first because otherwise I’ll just get burned out before the end of the year. I am also reading To Kill a Kingdom this winter, I hope we both love it!

  18. I am right there with you- I think i enjoy making TBR posts MORE than actually following them. I usually feel super accomplished if I get through half of my planned TBR lol. The books you have on deck look so interesting! Honestly I don’t know where I’ve been because I haven’t heard of most of them but the cover of IN SEARCH OF looks gorgeous! (Also, is that the same author of Love Letters to the Dead? If so, I’m super curious about her new books since the last one felt pretty much like a rewrite of The Perks for Being a Wallflower…)

  19. I wish I could help you with TBR problems, but.. I don’t ever do TBRs ?! ahah. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about Together At Midnight, I got lucky enough to read it already and it was such an adorable story, definitely fit for the Christmas – new year season <3 I hope you'll read The Next Together as well and City of Brass. I have read the first one and really enjoyed it. As for City of Brass… well, everyone is talking about it, I'm sooo curious to hear your thoughts on that one.
I'm not helping there, am I? Well, I tried to tell you which ones to prioritize? ahah 🙂
    Happy reading, Shannon!! xx

  20. I’m impressed you can divide up my books. I think my reading habits are random. Sometimes I check books out of the library and don’t even read them…. They just suddenly don’t seem as interesting once I get them home!

  21. I go through months where I set and stick to a TBR, and then times when I completely don’t stick to it at all and December looks like it is shaping up to be one of those months. I have not found a pattern to when I do or don’t stick to them just yet 😛 I read 1/4 of Heart of Iron last month and it seemed pretty decent! I just need to read more. I hope you’ll enjoy reading as many of these books as possible before the year is out.
