Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten Unique Book Titles

Ah, unique titles are the best, amirite? If I ever actually had the wherewithal to publish a book, I’d want the absolute weirdest title for it. I actually did a post once about judging books by their titlebut this is all in a good way this time! These are just the unique titles I adore. And wonder if you do too.

Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies by Lindsay Ribar (My all time fave, nothing will ever compare, sorry.)

Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston (Sure it’s a Shakespeare reference, but shhh.  I like it beyond that, okay?)

Bygone Badass Broads by Mackenzi Lee  It would be a dream to be called this one day, tbh

Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson

The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E.K. Johnston (she is getting a lot of airtime, no?)

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

Do any of these make your list? Have any other fun, quirky titles to share?

  1. You did an awesome job with this topic. I passed, because I require that I have read a book to feature it on my TTT list (unless it is an anticipated type list). I have to agree with you, Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies is one of the best I have every heard (and I actually read the book).

  2. We shared a lot of choices this week! The Smell of Other People’s Houses, The Upside of Unrequited, They Both Die at the End, and That Inevitable Victorian Thing all made my list, as well. I was so close to including Bygone Badass Broads, too! Turtles All the Way Down and Exit, Pursued by a Bear (which I had no idea was a Shakespeare reference) are also great choices!

  3. Some of these are SO quirky! I’ve never heard of “Exit, Pursued by a Bear” or “The Smell of Other People’s Houses”, and I have no clue what either of them are about, but their titles alone make me want to look into them now.

  4. E. K. Johnston is definitely on my “authors to watch” list! I have That Inevitable Victorian Things on today’s list too. It killed me not to put Exit, Pursued by a Bear but I decided not to do any titles that reference another work. I really like the other titles on your list, too. I think we might have similar tastes. 😀

  5. Love your picks, Shannon! Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies is epic. I haven’t seen that one before. That Inevitable Victorian Thing… totally intrigued by the title. I was *this close* to using The Upside of Unrequited but I was already using Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda so I decided to give Albertalli a rest.

  6. I got That Inevitable Victorian Thing almost completely based on the title (it helped that the cover is pretty) I don’t even think that I read the description before buying! This is an excellent list.

  7. I love ‘Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies’ as a title! Although it seems like kind of a spoiler (although I imagine that isn’t what actually happens in the book…that would be pretty depressing for a book with such a fun title!) 🙂

  8. OH I love these titles so, so much – I didn’t know that book “Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies” ahah, what a fun title. I hope that’s not actually happening in the book?! That has me a bit worried now, ahah. I really love the new John Green’s title, but…I will always be disappointed that there aren’t actual turtles on the book cover. The Smell of Other People’s House always intrigued me, both because it’s a strange title, and I heard great things about it overall 🙂 Lovely picks! 🙂

  9. I love these, especially the smelly houses! There is another book called Exit, Pursued by a Bear written by South African author John van de Ruit. It’s the 4th book in the Spud series. A funny, sad, crazy story set in a boys boarding school. The school is real and is about 1/2 hour drive from my home, but the author has never admitted how much of the story is true.

  10. I love all of these titles! You actually have a couple of favourite books of mine on this list. I adore the Chaos Walking series and almost anything Ness, and I am both excited and incredibly nervous for the movie. They Both Die at the End was a more recent favourite, and an utterly unexpected one. It’s safe to say that the story destroyed me (in a great way).

Walk on Earth a Stranger and Turtles All The Way Down are both on my to-read list. I’m hoping that over the winter holidays I will be able to read them, because I’ve heard wonderful things.

    Happy reading!
