This Adventure Ends Blog Tour: This Adventure Swims

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills! Today I am featuring a little art work. And it was done by me. Spoiler alert: I am the absolute least artistic person on the face of the earth, which is why it made total sense for me to get giddy excited at the opportunity to draw on this canvas.

Clearly, I am gifted 😉 I promise those are supposed to be goggles and not a coal miner headlamp. And that cloud in the corner well… Idek.

I chose “This Adventure Swims”, because well, most of my life’s adventures (and certainly all of them pre-blogging and bookish stuff) involved swimming. And most especially, all of my young adult adventures involved swimming. It was kind of a big deal. Obviously, for all the common sense reasons: My friends were on the team, I enjoyed doing it, it was hard work, you know the drill. But it really goes so far beyond that.

Swimming taught me things I never knew, and probably never would have known about myself. That I was more determined than I ever knew, that I would do anything to achieve my goals. That I would care so deeply for my teammates and coaches, that it would quite literally be a part of my life forever. But the most important thing that happened was that this adventure made me a better person. Made me stronger, braver, and yes, more adventurous.

Because I wanted to take a stroll down memory lane, and I brought you guys with me 😀 These are from age group straight through college!

And to an extent, my bookish adventures have kind of filled that gap that swimming left behind after college, after I had no teams left to be a part of. But I won’t lie- show me a team looking for old ladies, and I am IN 😉 Thanks to Macmillan and Emma Mills for letting me share this story, too- it’s something I have always wanted to talk about a little more on the blog, and this book gave me the chance. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go pre-order it so I can read it ASAP! You might want to do the same, for I hear it is incredible.

Sloane isn't expecting to fall in with a group of friends when she moves from New York to Florida—especially not a group of friends so intense, so in love, so all-consuming. Yet that's exactly what happens.

Sloane becomes closest to Vera, a social-media star who lights up any room, and Gabe, Vera's twin brother and the most serious person Sloane's ever met. When a beloved painting by the twins' late mother goes missing, Sloane takes on the responsibility of tracking it down, a journey that takes her across state lines—and ever deeper into the twins' lives.

Filled with intense and important friendships, a wonderful warts-and-all family, shiveringly good romantic developments, and sharp, witty dialogue, this story is about finding the people you never knew you needed.

Doesn’t this book sound ah-mazing? I have heard such great things, I NEED to get my hands on it ASAP!

  1. I can’t wait to read this one either Shannon, I loved her first book, so sweet and really charming.

I used to take swimming lessons when I was younger too, nothing to your extent though. It sounded as though not only did you enjoy it but it really helped broaden your horizons as well. I think so many parents take sports for granted and see it as just a way for kids to get active. But you’ve proven how much more it is than that. It really helps kids and teens with confidence, bonding and learning how to set personal goals for themselves, something most adults need these days too. I’d love to hear more about it Shannon, so hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve heard of your swimming adventures <3

  2. I love your drawing so much. Like LOVE! And I love your love for swimming! Reading this, I wish I joined the team at school and forgot about how chubby I was so I could make such great friends like you did. But sadly my insecurities got in the way. Seriously though, this post makes me so happy! And I loved this book so much too! 🙂

  3. That artwork is so cute Shannon! Loved how you related this book to your own swimming experiences which you thought of fondly. I used to do swim class before it was compulsary at school but for some reason I still sucked at it XD

  4. I could have sworn I commented on this, and then I remembered that you sent the preview to me. First off, SWIMMING. I know I mentioned that I was looking at Masters swimming because you wrote about swimming, but I just don’t think I would be able to make all the practice times. And I’m afraid I will become miserable again. BUT THAT CANVAS. SUCH ART. Are you going to frame it? Sell it? Give it to me? I will literally hang it on my wall because my wall is actually pretty empty (since I just moved in and all).

  5. So interesting to hear how big of a part swimming was/ is of your life. I did some swimming classes when i was younger, but it wasn’t quite for me and I never continued with it later getting the first few certificates. Here everyone has to learn how to swim because we’re so close to water. So it was more something obligatory for me than something I did for fun. I never quite found a sport that worked for me sadly, but I do like hearing of others their experience with sports. As it does sound so nice to have something be an important part of your life like that and how you work towards your goals and form bonds with your team members and coaches. Also that book cover is so pretty and I like how I can almost feel the texture of the paint just by looking at it.

  6. I AGREE WITH VAL. AHH. YOU AND YOUR SWIM TROUPE ARE ADORABLE. <3

The artwork was made for The Louvre clearly. 😉 Your artwork is so adorable awe, but for real, I draw the exact same way. We literally just did an origami thing in class and everyone was folding theirs perfectly, and I just held my awkward square and the guy next to me kept saying, "It's okay. I'll do it for you." x1000 Awkward = Me.

  7. Aw, I loved this post and the prompt you came up with! AND LOOKING AT ALL YOUR SWIMMING PHOTOS. and omg you did such a great job with that drawing. it is A+
