The 100 Episode 3×14: Red Sky at Morning

Snark

Welcome, welcome! In case you missed last week’s recap, here you go!

Now, if you recall, unlike in book reviews, we do not mind spoiling the hell out of the show, so turn back now if you don’t want to know any of the things! This has been your warning!

OH and while it may be obvious that I don’t like, hang around taking still photos from the show’s set, these pictures aren’t mine, of course. They’re from, you know, the show.

Now, let’s do this! Episode 3×14: Red Sky at Morning

This is the set up to the finale, basically. And it was frustrating as hell. That doesn’t mean it was bad, but it did mean that I was yelling at my TV and anyone within a two mile radius probably thought I was insane. ALSO guys? I made my own GIFs!!! This is a proud, proud moment. They aren’t the best, but I also didn’t have a ton of time, so hopefully I will find better alternatives as I keep trying!

Basically, the whole thing was three strikes. Three chances to take ALIE out by three different groups. Had any one of the three succeeded… well, ALIE over. But this is the antepenultimate episode, so we know that won’t be happening.

Strike One: Arkadia

Frankly there isn’t a ton happening in Arkadia. Most of it is Raven and Monty arguing about computer stuff and/or Clarke. Miller and Miller’s Boyfriend apparently have this episode off, so it’s just the computer kids and Harper. Harper comes in to see if Monty will help her with something, and Raven tells him to go. He gives Raven the side-eye, because they were just fighting and he doesn’t trust her, but she tells him to go.

So he goes, but Harper doesn’t need his help. Well, I guess she does, but not like that. She basically jumps him, and his concern was the same as mine:

It’s the post-apocalyptic version of asking if someone’s been tested for STDs I guess?

He seems satisfied with her answer. ?

Look, I am all for these people finding comfort however they need to. You get yours, girl! And hey, good for Monty! But Hanty as a thing? I just don’t see it, because they have basically no chemistry and no set up. And I feel like I am still team Minty? But yeah, glad that Monty got some lovin, because what comes next… UGH.

ALIE senses that they’re close to breaking through her kill switch or some techy thing. So she sends someone in as a distraction. Hey y’all, Hannah Green is back! This time in a respectable sweater ensemble, because everyone in The COL is dressed like ads for The Gap. the100_314_2099

Because a blowout and a knit sweater make us totally forget about the massacres!

But alas, Monty knows that his mom isn’t his mom anymore, and does whatever Raven needs him to do, even though he knows this will be the end of his mom.

Deleted looks good, right? We must be done here!

But alas, nothing is easy for our fine delinquent friends. As Monty cries over killing his mom for like, the fifth time this week, he hears Raven start to yell. Which is always something you want to hear when you are one of like 10 humans left in ever.

Sounds about right.

Now ALIE has disconnected herself from Arkadia, and they no longer pose a threat to her. She is pleased as punch, but Monty is (appropriately, I might add) given Raven the “you’re dead to me” look. She feels awful but… too little too late? Maybe things will be better at Polis…

Strike Two: Polis

We start off at the prison cell, where a ragtag group still refuses to take the chip. ALIE comes in to try to peer pressure them into it when she notices the wounds all over Pike. Not Indra’s smartest move, but I get it. She alerts The COL that someone is unchained, and in come a few burly dudes with weapons. They start to check to see who is unchained, and of course Indra is. But never fear for Indra for too long, because once again, she is the warrior.

Even ALIE is like “holy shit, don’t wanna mess with her”.

This is really all the confirmation Murphy needs to help Indra and Pike get to Jaha’s backpack, which is literally their only plan at this point. Who ever thought we’d see this group working together? I won’t lie, I freaking love it.

And he Is. Not. Kidding.

So off go our Three Musketeers to find the backpack! And of course, the minute that JALIE finds the decoys, one takes the chip, so they know that our Three are headed for the backpack. Of course this cannot be. Enter Emori! Jaha tells her that they “need her” because her “friend John Murphy” is up to shenanigans. She agrees to go, of course, but not before this interaction:

YES! I love it, winning even under ALIE’s spell!

Emori shows up at the flame-keeping place, trying to convince Murphs that he will kill them all if he squishes the ALIE-pack. He is conflicted, because (somewhat shockingly) he doesn’t want to kill mankind. ALIE counts down how long Emori has to keep stalling before she’ll be uploaded to the safe place or whatever. Murphy decides that he isn’t cut out for destroying the world, but Pike has no such qualms. Seriously, I am starting to legitimately not hate this guy, and it needs to stop!

“You can’t? Well I fucking can!”–Pike knows a bluff when he sees one, I guess.

So everything goes still. They wait to see what happens, if ALIE is gone. Murphy runs over to Emori, and wants to know if she is okay.

Oh super. Now what? Where is ALIE?

Well shit, that is not good news…..

Strike Three: The Rig

Clarke and the gang are sitting around in the middle of the Atlantic (presumably?) trying to decide on their next move. Jasper is being extra helpful and flirting with some girl. So as the only Nightblood, they need Luna, but she won’t help, and they are fresh out of ideas. So Clarke takes the high road.

Hhahah just kidding, she’s going to be an asshole!

Bellamy and Octavia are not on board with this plan, which is actually the first thing that they have agreed upon in a long time. So that’s nice! But when Clarke asks if anyone has a better idea… well, there’s crickets. Octavia is still quite against this, since she is reasonable.

::Whispers to Bellamy:: That is not how “choices” work….

But we all have met Clarke, and she’s going to do whatever the hell she wants in the end anyway, so she goes to find Luna. Even Bellamy and Octavia are like “whatever, let’s get off this god forsaken boat already, chip whoever you want”.

But Clarke doesn’t realize what a fighter she has found in Luna. So the Chip-by-Force doesn’t exactly go down as planned…

Well then. She also informs Clarke that she wasn’t scared of losing to Lexa. She was basically not wanting to have to kill anyone else because killing your friends and family fucking sucks.

Signing up for the Luna Fan Club, obviously.

So Luna has had enough of these Sky People and their nonsense, so she plans to ship them back to the mainland. She gets them loaded back into their crate so they can’t find the rig (which I don’t get- it’s not like they have some kind of nautical navigation skills from all their time on a spaceship, but whatever) but when her guys go to shove in Clarke & Co, they also attack Luna. Super, ALIE at Sea!

Luckily, we know that Luna can hold her own. The problem is, everyone is now chipped and trying to get her to take the chip- or kill her. Even her nearest and dearest.

Just a little reminder of why Luna is not a fan of the killing?

So, Team Clarke things that now that Luna sees how awful ALIE is and that she can literally infiltrate anyone, anywhere, she’ll agree to become commander. Only Luna has other plans. She drugs them and drops their unconscious asses back on the beach. Well that isn’t great news for any non-chipped people who want to stay that way…

Team looks at Clarke. Clarke looks at Bellamy. Cute Bellarke moment aside, they have absolutely no idea what to do next. And they don’t even know about Sky ALIE yet.

The Finale

This is it! The penultimate and final episodes, which is essentially a two part finale. I am scared. I have a theory (not based on any kind of reason) that someone is going to have to take the chip, and will sacrifice themselves to rid everyone of ALIE. Because Emerson didn’t die immediately- and if they knew how to shut down ALIE before death… yeah. That is my theory, but who even knows!

Thoughts? What do you think is going to become of ALIE? Of our delinquents? How many deaths should we brace for? Can my heart handle it? OH and most importantly- Hanty: yay or nay?

  1. Yeah this episode was big on the climactic moments but in the end… Frustrating is a good word. Harper and Monty?? Wow that was a surprise. I agree, Harper finally got some love but they have NO chemistry that I can see. And Hanty… yeah that doesn’t work. 🙂 We need a good ship for Harper… I felt REALLY bad for Monty when he deleted mom and then their plan didn’t work. I’m surprised he didn’t blow a gasket right there (well he kinda did, but man why are they torturing Monty??)

Interesting that bit about Emori not fixing her defects- maybe they have a little free will in the COL after all? And yeah Pike wasn’t bad in this one. what am I saying lol? Which brings us to Clarke- deciding that Luna’s going to take the chip if she has to shove it into her head. Clarke is a bit of a rogue element isn’t she? But of course she loses- Clarke can’t fight. And that ending- they’re like well all that shit didn’t work, we’re screwed. I have no idea where they’ll go in the finale, but maybe Jaha will die. I hope so!!

I hope Hanty was a one off but who for Harper? I don’t know!!

    • Hanty does not work. AT ALL. No chemistry on either end- I mean, yeah, Monty was like, happy, but that is only for the obvious reasons. Did he and Harper even speak before? I mean, two episodes ago she was throwing shade at him because of his mom, and hating him because of Pike! Now suddenly they’re bed buddies?! And even more weird, that we’re supposed to believe that he is now in love with her? Please. You can do better, writers. I’m pretty salty that they’re making Harper into a plot device. Harper is so much more than that.

And YES, good point about the defects! I agree that it shows that it isn’t *total* brainwashing, which I assume will be coming into play later (especially based on the previews for the finale!) because I don’t know how else this works unless someone rides in there to overrun ALIE themselves. I don’t even completely understand what happened in the last episode (probably because I watched it at 5am, but that’s another story) so I am just going to wait until Thursday to see what happens. But I am not okay with the season being over already. Especially if Jaha is still alive 😉

      • Harper gets short shrift on this show, and it’s pissing me off. I mean Emerson shows up and she screams (instead of wasting his ass), then like you said she all of a sudden needs Monty. I mean if she was just using him to get some that’s fine, but if they’re all in love now- blech.

I can’t believe Thursday is the last episode. :(:(:(

        • YES! She would NEVER have screamed and run away. She would have maybe screamed, but also would have gutted him. And yeah, the Monty thing, UGH my eyes are rolling so hard. Because no. They just don’t work. Especially since I was pretty sure Miller’s boyfriend was going to die and it’d be Minty time! Sadness. I mean, probably not from the perspective of Miller’s boyfriend (seriously, does he have a name? Because I legitimately do not know it), but for the rest of us. Did you watch it yet? I am DYING to write my review-ish thing!!

          • I did watch it- and now it’s over. $%^&!! I can’t wait for next year… I thought Miller’s BF was a goner too, and yeah Minty- like the sound of that. Plus get Harper away from monty at all costs! I mean I like Monty, but still… anyway my post will be up on Wed I think (too many posts and not enough days-argh) and looking forward to seeing what you thought!
