Halloween Scenes

top10

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Halloween themed freebie — your choice (ie. 10 best ghost stories, 10 things that scare you in books, 10 literary Halloween costumes, 10 vampire novels, 10 books that WILL scare you, 10 non-scary books for Halloween, 10 scariest covers, etc.)

So, I had a few ideas that I ended up hating. And eventually I just decided to go with some scenes in books, movies, or TV that I really enjoyed. Because I was ridiculous, didn’t look ahead at the TTT list, and posted my own Halloween book post last week. Fail.

Obviously, this is a fabulous way to celebrate Halloween in a fantastically wonderful creepy book. Such a win, such a win.

Come on, how could you not have seen this? It’s like, cult classic at this point, no? And so, so accurate!

Um, these kids celebrate Halloween at least nine times during the course of this series. They only go through eighth grade once. So either they are super confused on how holidays work, or they’re having a shit ton of trouble with algebra. ::Shrugs::

(I know there only are 8 here, it is because I like symmetry, okay?)

You have questions? I understand. Robin did too.

But no worries, there are answers! ezgif-1816815688

Oh, maybe not. Okay, well the “Slutty Pumpkin” is not actually slutty, just a pumpkin. Played by Katie Holmes, who Ted is obsessed with every year. Until he finds her.

Spoiler Alert: She is not the mother.

Lara Jean wins by dressing up for Halloween as a character from Harry Potter. This girl, apparently: Cho_chang-1

The very first time Olivia is hypnotized by Henri is on Halloween. Fitting for Olivia, the Dracula lover, and Henri, the hypnotist, no?

Some shows have Christmas specials, some do New Year’s. Roseanne did Halloween. Bow down.

Oops. But here, you get me from ages 0-30, so that’s a win.

Spice Girls, a mermaid, a maid, a clown, a bridesmaid, an Old Hollywood star, Amber from Teen mom, a monkey (with a little monkey!) and a CSI detective. BOOM.

So, what are some things you love about Halloween?

  1. My favorite Halloween Special was from Boy Meets World.I don’t remember the name of the episode but they were in high school. It was really funny.

    Check out My TTT:

  2. This post has just given me all of the nostalgia. Thank you for all the gifs and videos of The Big Bang Theory, Friends, and How I Met Your Mother, hahaha.

Also, you in Halloween costumes! Look at you being fabulous 😉

  3. Hehe, this is such a cute list, Shannon! I loved your comment on The Baby-Sitters Club, that made me laugh – algebra’s hard. 😉 That episode of Friends is so much fun, too, and I love the Halloween scene in Mean Girls, although I’m ashamed to say I didn’t see Mean Girls until about two years ago. Somehow it passed me by during my teens. Anyway, great list!

  4. OMG OMG Amber from Teen Mom LOL. That is the best!!! Love your topic this week. HIMYM is one of my favorite shows and loved the Slutty Pumpkin – until it was Katie Holmes. She kind of ruined it for me. Totally agree with the party in The Accident Season. Love when The Big Bang Theory does Halloween!!

  5. Ah, I wouldn’t have remembered half of these! Mean Girl wins all the things. It’s such a cult movie. I clearly need to watch it again! And TBB and HIMYM have really cool costumes too. Yay for your own costumes! I suck at costumes, so I generally go as…myself. They take so much time and effort! I’m always like oops, it’s Halloween today? Probably should have taken care of a costume… Anyways, Happy Halloweeeeeen (spooky ghost voice).

    • Mean Girls is fabulous! I like that it can be found on cable at least once a week 😉 I suck at costumes now because of chunkiness. That ONE year in college my cousin and a friend helped me make the mermaid costume, because I was in shape hahah. Now… who has the time? Maybe when my kids are older and no longer want to hang out with me, I can go around as Old Lady Katniss or something 😀

  6. The Babysitter’s Club did go though Halloween quite a bit. I never really though of it before. If I recall correctly, I believe the Boxcar Children may have had the same problem. 🙂
Mean Girls is totally classic but I would not have remembered even half of these on my own.
    Thanks for sharing!
    Amanda

    • Hahha they really did! And then Christmas was like, every fourth book too 😉 I assume that the Boxcar Children did too- and Sweet Valley High, and basically all of the super-long series. And Mean Girls, I could watch that all the time. Too funny! 😀

  7. Fantastic! I love The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother! And the Babysitter’s Club! I think I missed most of the ones you have listed but I loved the one where Dawn found the secret passage in her house. I think it was #9 and I read it about 100 times. Love your Halloween costumes! What fun!

    • Aw thanks!! OH yes, I remember that one! I used to hope beyond hope that I would have a secret passage in my house just like Dawn! My house was newer, so I would go to my grandparents’ house and rummage around their closets and basement looking for one. My grandma was like “um, we have lived here for half a century, I think we would have found it by now?” BWHAHHA

  8. I love these TV series. I’ve seen the Friends (classic) and Big Bang Theory Halloween episodes, but I haven’t seen the Slutty Pumpkin yet. I have got to get that series!. Love your costumes. Happy Halloween.

  9. Oh how I love this post, Shannon!!
I need to read The Accident Season already because that does sound like an epic Halloween scene.
And OMG, the slutty pumpkin! I love that episode. And of course the Friends episode was a riot too.
Hahah! Your costumes though! The Amber from Teen Mom one made me laugh so hard. 🙂 Thanks for making my morning!

    • Aww thanks! You definitely should read The Accident Season, so so good! And thanks! I figured, how many people have ever dressed up as Amber from Teen Mom? (My husband dressed as Gary, and wore a pillow under his shirt and had made a “black eye” out of makeup- guess I should have posted a picture of us both!)

  10. Awesome take on this week’s theme, Shannon! Um yeah, there’s actually someone still around that *hasn’t* seen Mean Girls. {sheepishly raises hand while furtively glancing around} I see al the gifs and hear all the references… and it all goes over my head. (Note to self: must correct this soon… tired of not being in the club.) And I love the mermaid costume… hot stuff! 🙂

    • Aw thank you so much!! You MUST go watch Mean Girls. It’s written by Tina Fey for goodness sake! Amy Poehler, Tim Meadows, Neil Flynn, Ana Gasteyer…. you MUST. And the actor and actress who play Damian and Janis are FABULOUS. DOOO ITTTT! I promise you won’t regret it- just remember, it’s supposed to be satirical! 😀

  11. AWESOME topic! I love the Roseanne Halloween specials. I remember looking forward to them every year. And YES! The Big Bang Theory does Halloween great! I loved The Cure for Dreaming and I really need to read The Accident Season. Super fun list!

    Michelle @ Michelle’s Minions

  12. The Accident Season’s on my list since your review. This would be the perfect time to read it, maybe next year. The Cure for Dreaming was the ebook of the month at my library, but I think I missed it. I was too behind on review books to do any Halloween reads this year. I think the best thing about Halloween is the costumes. It’s been a while since I dressed up though. I look young so I trick or treated longer than most people. 😉 I didn’t do it for the candy. I don’t even really like candy. (I’m allergic to chocolate) So gave the candy to my mom’s school kids. I just liked dressing up. I always liked carving pumpkins and baking the seeds too. What are you doing for Halloween this year?

    • Oh, you MUST read it! Don’t even wait for next year 😉 And you have to read The Cure for Dreaming too. You just have to 😀 It’s been a long time since I dressed up too- I mean, aside from the monkey mask with my daughter hahah. OHH I forgot about pumpkin seeds! I LOOOOVE baking them! I am bummed that I didn’t this year- we just got two small pumpkins for the kids with faces already painted on.

Took the kids trick-or-treating- Lena was a My Little Pony and Sam was a tiger. I will post pictures on this week’s recap for sure!! Hope you had a fabulous Halloween!

  13. Okay, seriously… your memory is AMAZING!!! This is so creative, and I’m shocked at how many of these you came up with!! My memory is horrendous, so to me, you’re a total superhero right now. ♥ Yes to so many of these too. LOVE the Big Bang Theory ones… when they win as the Justice League, that’s my son’s FAVORITE episode! (He’s slightly obsessed with superheros… AND Sheldon, for that matter. LOL!) I’m so impressed by this!! Awesome job, Shannon!! 😀

    • Aww thanks! (Tbh, I thought of a few more after I posted haha.) Usually my memory is bad too- I guess these must have stuck out? Actually- I wasn’t 100% sure on some of them, so I had to go to my bookshelf and look them up!

True story about the Justice League one- I almost put it… but when I was searching for gifs, I couldn’t find any. Turns out, it wasn’t Halloween, but New Year’s Eve! I didn’t remember that AT ALL! But then once I read it, it came back to me. That was a great episode for sure!

  14. I love this post so much! You have most my favorite scenes on here, HIMYM (Slutty Pumpkin for the win!), Friends, Big Bang Theory, and, of course, Mean Girls (though nothing beats the Christmas scene). =) I wish I’d checked TTT this week, I tottal would’ve done a Halloween list of some sort!

Also, an easier question would be what’s the only thing I don’t like about Halloween? Which is basically nothing because I love Halloween and everything about it! But, honestly, the thing I like most is costumes, scaring people, watching horror movies, and doing Halloween-y activites. I hate slutty costumes because I feel most of them are just not needed. But, you know, you do you slutty pumpkins. =)

    • Aww thanks!! I know, the Christmas scene in Mean Girls IS the best ever, basically hahah. You are seriously the biggest fan of Halloween EVER, I think! And girl, I feel you on the “slutty” thing needing to stop. True story- I had a friend dress as Lady Gaga (the same year I was Amber from Teen Mom, actually) and the “costume” was so skimpy that I can’t share most of the pictures because you can actually see her vagina. How is that Halloween!?!? HOW!?

  15. That Friends episode was so funny! I really miss How I Met Your Mother. They should re-do the whole show and give us a better ending this time if you ask me. I have to admit, I likes Slapsgiving more than The Slutty Pumpkin though. I love your Teen Mom outfit, very creative! Here’s my TTT. Happy Halloween!

  16. haha you cannot go wrong with Big Bang Theory’s Halloween scenes. It’s just too hilarious. Ross and Chandler’s arm wrestle was also pretty memorable. I love this list, you’re always so creative with your ideas. 😀

  17. I love all the thought you put into this post Shannon. It’s brilliant! My little (19 years younger) twin bro and sis were born on Halloween. Also, Halloween is the ultimate lifestyle holiday. It is only ever trumped by New Years for party options. I always dress up and most of the time I make Miguel go as something to match. This year I am a prisoner and he is a cop. So fun!

    • Aw thank you so much! I agree, Halloween for parties is kind of perfect. I wish I had like, some kind of group of people to have big parties with- to go all out and have amazing costumes! That would be SO fun!! I LOVE yours and Miguel’s costumes for this year, so fun and sweet that you guys coordinate!

  18. YOU ARE A BABY. SO YOUNG. Wait that is you right? LOL

I love The Big Bang Theory with such a burning passion. Though I don’t watch it anymore. AND LOL HOW CAN THE BABYSITTERS CLUB HAVE SO MANY HALLOWEENS. TIME TRAVEL? Who knows 🙂

    • Hahha several of them are me! The one is me and Lena, but most of them are me, yes. You should watch TBBT again! And seriously, Baby-Sitters Club. You’re supposed to be watching kids, not overindulging in holiday shenanigans. Get it together!

  19. SHANNON I AM SO IMPRESSED BY THIS POST. So much hardwork and time in making the graphics ^_^ (I wish I had as much time as you, haha!)

Anyway, I remember watching the Slutty Pumpkin episode in HIMYM. That one made me really laugh! And also the scene in Mean Girls where they had a Halloween party thing 🙂 Great picks, Shannon! I enjoyed this so much. (Also, your old photos!!!! I love how you and you friends dressed up as Spice Girls. I remember my friend wanting to go Trick or Treating as a trio, and the three of us would be Kim, Kanye, and baby North West. HAHA.)

Anyway, HAPPY HALLOWEEN <3 I can't believe it's almost here!

  20. Mean girls is def my favorite!!! HAHAHAH Now I feel like rewatching it HAHAH Lara Jean was also cute HAHAH We just celebrated Halloween here, I dressed up like a skeleton, the children were very scared of me HAHA great post!

  21. I do love all the Halloween episodes that Big Bang Theory has done! They do the best ones! And the Slutty Pumpkin! Loved that show. I also think it’s neat that you included your own Halloween pictures in the top 10. I love getting to see actual pictures of fellow bloggers so I can better picture who it is I am actually chatting with online. Have a great Halloween!

    • Hahha I agree, those shows were/are fabulous! And thanks 😀 I totally agree with you- I LOVE seeing what people look like- almost makes it easier to talk to them, you know? Because you kind of know you’re talking to a friend! Hope you had a great Halloween!
