I haven’t posted my review for An Ember in the Ashes yet. I was waiting for #UBBv3 and since I now have it (thanks Ashley!!) my review will be posting tomorrow! But suffice it to say, I kind of adored the book. If you have somehow been living under some kind of rock, or perhaps in a cave, or what have you, here’s the book info:

Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy. There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.
“Fine”, you say. “I knew that already, as I do not live in a cave, but an appropriate human dwelling.” Well, as you may have heard by now, there is going to be a sequel! A lovely, presumably equally epic sequel. And this week, Penguin is celebrating the sequel! You can find all the fun stuff they’ve been posting on their Tumblr and Twitter accounts. And of course, the book info:

The book will pick up the story of the heroine Laia, the undercover rebel who is fighting to protect her family, and Elias, a reluctant soldier for the empire, as they travel north to free Laia’s brother from prison and try to evade the empire’s armies.

But the sequel wasn’t always set in stone!
In fact, Holly @ The Fox’s Hideaway and I spent many a Twitter conversation pondering the sequel status. Holly read the book a few weeks before I did, absolutely loved it, and then forced me to read it basically the minute it appeared on my doorstep. So, because I am a fabulous friend, I obliged, and then obviously also loved it. So Holly?
And I don’t remember all the details, but I do remember going on Goodreads to add the sequel to my TBR and must-read list, as you do. But to my shock, horror, and dismay… There was no sequel.
So I started talking to Holly about it, and she confirmed this grim reality. We wallowed in our newfound sorrow. We couldn’t fathom how this book, this NYT BESTSELLER, had no sequel yet! So we waited. Because come on, it had to happen, right? RIGHT!? I even gave Holly an almost-heart attack with a false alarm. I swore I saw it somewhere, but then… nope. I was wrong. I think someone said “squeal” and the title and I mistook it for sequel and the title. Somehow, Holly did not throttle me. Thanks for that, by the way.
But one glorious day, I woke up to “the” tweet. You know the one. Holly, flailing, and tagging me in a retweet of Sabir Tahir’s excited formal announcement of THE SEQUEL!
And all was right in the world.
Until we realized… April 2016 is a long time from now…
Your enthusiasm is infectious and I find myself seriously excited for this sequel even though I haven’t read the first! I guess I should do that now? =)
Can’t wait to see your review for the first!
YESS read the first! It was quite good!
HA! I loved this post! YAYAYAY for AEITA sequel! *runs around house flailing*
Hahhahah I know, it isn’t that far away now (well I mean, not *too* far. Fine, it is kind of far, but you can pre order it at least 😉 )
I love that this is basically a story of me and you. It’s beautiful. And I still LOVE that tweet! Haha.
Hahha I know, it is sweet. It’s our very own love triangle with Sabaa Tahir 😀
I AM SO EXCITED FOR BOOK 2!!!! I really enjoyed AEITA and I NEED book 2 in my life soon. This romance is a total mess, how the heck is it going to turn out?! xD
RIGHT!? What IS this romance!? I do not compute! I am just glad there will BE a sequel!
I was so surprised when the sequel wasn’;t set in stone. With the way it ended – it seemed NATURAL to have a sequel. Like whaaaaa? SO GLAD IT’S HAPPENING!!!
RIGHT!? I had no idea that it wasn’t a thing until I tried to add it to Goodreads and then.. I didn’t know what I was going to do!
You guys are crazy obsessed. For a good reason of course. I plan to read this SOON
You kind of need to, okay? Great, let me know when you’re done. I will be sitting here waiting patiently 😛
It’s always lovely when sequels of books you love are announced! I’m waiting on quite a few myself. I’m super unsure as to whether I should pick this up, since I’ve read quite a few so-so reviews, but the people who loved this ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. And your enthusiasm is super infectious. Happy waiting!
Isn’t it the BEST!? It makes me so happy too. I really did enjoy this one, though I DO kind of see why the people who didn’t like it didn’t. But for me, it was just too enjoyable to worry about the few flaws!
I haven’t read it but I want to SO BAD!!! I need to buy it. As soon as I do, I’m pushing it at the top of my TBR!! And a sequel already?! Can’t wait (April is so far away!)
Oooh you should! And yes, April is far, BUT, by the time you get it and read it, it won’t seem that far 😉
Haha! In reading comments I started to think AEINTA was the name of a character, figured it out though. (don’t mind me, i am very tired!)
I actually haven’t read this yet. I guess I better buy it. My wallet hates you, but I thank you!
I do that all the time- like who IS that person? Bwhahah I am glad I am not alone! I know, I am VERY bad for the wallet 🙁 I can’t decide if it is good or bad- good because you know, misery loves company hahah.
Such a fun post Shannon! Luckily Ember only got released here recently, and by the time it was out I saw the author’s post on a sequel! So glad to hear because that was a massive cliffhanger!
Despite the fact that I heard about the open ending with no guarantee of a sequel, I still bought the book. I have not read it yet, but I am so excited! And now that I know there will be a sequel for sure, I am even more excited!
I haven’t read an Ember in the Ashes yet, but I am glad to know there will be a sequel! I was reading a lot of reviews and I know many people were confused whether this was going to be a series or a standalone, but finally everything is set in stone!
