Books I Wish to Eat Popcorn Whilst Watching

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten Books I’d Love To See As Movies/Tv Shows

I am a pretty horrible excuse for a movie-goer. I usually go to about 3 movies a year, and it’s basically a Hunger Games movie, some crappy Divergent adaptation, and whatever John Green has popped onto the big screen that year. Bottom line? I pretty much only see movies that have been books. So these are some books that I obviously loved, but think would be extra amazing as movies!

e0

The Book: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

The Reason: Mostly the dresses. Also, Arin and Kestrel. (But really the dresses.)

e2

The Book: The Cage by Megan Shepherd

The Reason: So Kirsty-Marie and I don’t have to imagine the aliens as weird robo-Emmys anymore. Also, human zoos!

e6

The Book: The Islands at the End of the World by Austin Aslan

The Reason: Hawaii, apocalypse-style. Need I say more?

e3

The Book: Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott

The Reason: The Brimstone Bleed and Pandoras on the big screen would be freaking EPIC.

e9

The Book: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

The Reason: I loved it, and I just read it, and now I want it to be a movie, okay?

e4

The Book: Rook by Sharon Cameron

The Reason: As awesome as the plot is, who would not want to see freaking Sunken Paris portrayed in a movie?

e5

The Book: Forbidden by Kimberley Griffiths Little

The Reason: Movies would portray the culture and the biblical-era desert far better than my brain can.

e8 (1)

The Book: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

The Reason: Um, how is this not a movie already? Cyborgs in New Beijing, and it isn’t already happening? Let’s get on it, Hollywood!

e7

The Book: Blood Red Road by Moira Young

The Reason: This book is a lot of action, and a lot of moving around, and I think it’d lend itself very well to film.

e1

The Book: The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

The Reason: Really, all books by Patrick Ness should be movies, but come on- The Chaos Walking series would be such a badass movie series, I can’t even contain my excitement and it isn’t even a real thing!

So, those are my picks! Which book would you just adore seeing a movie or show made out of?

  1. I would like to see The Knife of Never Letting Go adapted into a movie as well. Haven’t managed to get into this book-series yet, but from what I’ve heard about it I think I would very much enjoy a movie version.

  2. The Chaos Walking Trilogy could be so wonderful on the big screen. If only they did it right. Such beautiful books! I would also like to see Cinder on the big screen. Great list!

  3. CINDER! YES! That would be suuuch a cool movie if they did it right. And I’m the same as you – it’s very rare for me to go to more than two movies a year. It’s usually just The Hunger Games movies at this point and obviously Jurassic Park this month!

  4. I’m reading The Cage and Cinder right now and I can already see how they’d be great for the big or small screen. The Winner’s Curse and Fire & Flood were two I didn’t really like as books, but maybe they’d work better as movies. The rest are on my tbr list, well, maybe not The Knife of Never Letting Go…something bad happens to the dog, right? Great list!

    • The Cage would be so epic! And Cinder, or course. And I think that F&F would definitely make a phenomenal movie, there’s just so much action!

And yes. If you can’t handle the dog stuff, skip it. But if you CAN, just sob for awhile and keep reading, because it’s kind of worth it!

  5. Great list, Shannon! I love the way you set your post out this week. 😀 Cinder just missed out on a spot on my list (although I must admit I love The Lunar Chronicles so much I’d be scared an adaptation just wouldn’t live up to what I imagine in my head) and Blood Red Road is a great choice, too. I thought I read somewhere that it’s getting adapted by Ridley Scott, though I’m a little wary about that; Blood Red Road might be set in a desert, but if Scott’s at the helm then you can guarantee the whole cast will be whiter than milk. -_-

  6. I ADORE YOUR PICKS. I have the Lunar Chronicles on mine too..whyyyyy isn’t it a movie yet?! I mean, all the other YA movies are chugging ahead and being famous movies SO WHY NOT LUNAR?!! *flails because needs it so bad* And Patrick Ness, yes and yes. I nearly put The Rest of Us Live Here on my list, but I feel like if I talk about it too much people will kill me with small toothpicks so I SHUT UP ABOUT IT BUT IT’D ALSO MAKE A GOOD MOVIE. *nods* I just want to read Wrath And Dawn. XD *longs after it greatly*

    • OOOOOH YAY! The Rest of Us Just Live Here… it makes me SO HAPPY just to think about it. Really. Especially since I now own it and no longer have to be all cranky over it. I want to read it now, but I should really wait (please tell me not to wait!)

Read Wrath, you must! It is amazing! And even if you hate it, the book itself is gorgeous and can be fodder for tons of pictures!

  7. OMG. These are super pretty. Also you have the best title.

I TOTALLY BACK WINNER’S CURSE. The dresses. Also the chess game thing, and the Needles fight. And GAAAAH I want Wrath and the Dawn so much, but Book Depository is out of paperbacks, hardbacks are expensive, and I need a physical book for something so hyped. Also I would enjoy Lunar Chronicles even though I haven’t read the books (the horror!), because they have to film in Beijing and I can grin crazily. (They have to do that, right? They can’t just photoshop the backdrop in. RIGHT?)

Gosh, I haven’t read so many of your picks — I really need to brush up on my reading. *whacks geometry homework*

    • Aww thanks! DUUUUDE the chess game thing would be sooooo amazing to see in a movie!!! And WHAT Book Depository!? NOT cool.

Also, YES they would have to film in Beijing. It would be a crime if they didn’t. Seriously, we’ll force them. Promise.

  8. YES, YES, YES to all of these Shannon! I love your picks here. I think The Islands at the End of the World would be amazing on the big screen. The set and the action would be incredible! And The Winner’s Curse would leave me dying. Seeing all the heartbreak and the torturous wonderful romance on screen would make my year. And the action from Cinder and Fire & Flood would translate perfectly to screen too! Thanks for sharing and fabulous picks!

  9. I’m a terrible movie-goer as well. I think I’ve been to 2 movies since my youngest was born 5 years ago and one of those was The Lego Movie with him! From your description I’m surprised Islands at the End of the World hasn’t been turned into a movie already. Just the visual alone would be worth paying to see!

    • Hahhaha I feel your pain! Good news (maybe?) is that my almost 4 year old will NOT sit still long enough for a kid movie, so I am off the hook- for now 😉 And I totally agree with you, the visuals for Islands would be EPIC!

  10. The Winner’s Crime made my list too. I think the political intrigue and action would be great to watch, on top of the fact that it would be totally beautiful (the costumes! the settings!)

  11. I didn’t even think of Cinder, but it would be awesome! And it’s so true–how has it not already been slated for a movie??

  12. I love how you made your graphics, they’re so cute 🙂 I agree about The Winner’s Curse, it would make an interesting show. Great list overall.

  13. Isalnds at the End of the World sound good to me- that’s a new one for me so I went to check it out, that could be an awesome movie!

  14. Oh my, Cinder needs to be a movie like LITERALLY right now and yesterday. It would be great and I would do anything I could to go and see it myself if I could! I also really like the idea of Blood Red Road being one too (I should really read the sequel.) Another book I would love to see as a movie would be The Body Electric by Beth Revis.

    • It would be SO good. I have a feeling it will happen. It is too popular NOT to happen! Blood Red Road would be awesome- and the sequel is even better! The third I didn’t love as much, but I think it could be made better on film 😉

  15. Oh wow… Your graphics are so cute! Also, I’m so pleased to see how the Lunar Chronicles is showing up on everyone’s list including MY LIST. You have some great reads here and I wouldn’t mind seeing some of these books on the big screen for sure!

    Happy Reading! Beth@Perpetual New Girl

  16. Great list. I would love the entire Lunar Chronicles series to be a movie. I still really, really want to read Rook. I have heard rave reviews!!
