This Week At Midnight (59)

TWAM

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. I also decided that since I do a weekly recap, it really is just good sense to link up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewerbecause that is such a fun link up as well!

The Books:

Because when Holly tells you that Book Depository has it on sale for $4 and to stop her from buying it, well, you both end up buying a copy.
Because it is pretty, and I am excited about it!

I was very good this week! Fine, I wasn’t good at all, the rest of my requests are just in limbo. I’m not even sorry.

Weekly Shenanigans

I read books! Three books, which I guess is the number I am destined to read until the end of time? Anyway, it’s these:

164296191858452124890845

Why, oh why did I wait so long to read The Kiss of Deception?! Holly told me I should! Actually, I am half glad I did, because now I don’t have to wait too long for the sequel! What Remains was a very pleasant surprise! And Hold Me Like a Breath was… a different, less pleasant surprise. Next time Aimee tells me something? I listen.

Reviews, likely of Until the Beginning by Amy Plum and 5 to 1 by Holly Bodger. Discussions of some kid. Perhaps a Top Ten list. And maybe some “Books I’m Never Reviewing”? We’ll see, as always.

Someone explain how it is already May, please. Is this year flying by as fast for you as it is for me? And as always… what’s up with you?

  1. Omg, THAT IS SO CHEAP. I wouldn’t have let Throne of Glass pass me by for $4 either. SHEESH. That’s fantastic. Lucky you. 😉 Ahhh, I was so excited for Hold Me Like a Breath, but NOT ANYMORE. I trust Aimee. I trust you. gah, you guys, I hoped it would be awesome. *cries woefully*

    • Right?! $4, FREE SHIPPING and NO TAX. I mean, it was a no-brainer! I didn’t hate it quite as much as Aimee (I think she may have a voodoo doll with the cover as its face at this point!) but…. I think you’d be really mad at it, honestly. No, I KNOW you would be. Because stuff happens that you just… no one would do these things. I will post my review probably a few days before it comes out, and there will be some nice things but… also RAGE. Aimee warned me, and I now know to LISTEN.

  2. I’ve read An Ember in The Ashes and I really really loved it! It was such a thrill for a book! I hope you enjoy reading it and the books you’ve hauled are pretty fantastic! I’m excited for Dumplin as well!

    Happy Weekends! 🙂

  3. I totally know what you mean about The Kiss of Deception. I LOVED it and couldn’t believe that I waited so long to read it! 🙂 You’ve got some great new additions this week! I hope you enjoy them all. Have a great weekend!

  4. Aaaaaah, I want An Ember in the Ashes and it’s not out in the UK for another month! So not fair. Hope you enjoy the new books!

  5. I keep hearing mixed things about An Ember in the Ashes, so I’m looking forward to your review. Re: May I know, right! I swear it was New Year’s yesterday. This week I got a job for some extra cash and looked at what felt like 234 rooms (but was actually only 4) b/c I *think* I’m still planning to move. Have a great weekend!

    • Oh no! I am hoping I like it! I won’t be fully reviewing it most likely, but I WILL tell you if I liked it and such! And right!? Weren’t we just doing year-end stuff? It doesn’t make sense! I reallly hope you find a place, that is so hard! Hope you have a great weekend too 😀

  6. The covers of Throne of Glass and Dumplin both appeal to me for different reasons. But why does Dumplin have no head? This seems to be a theme on a lot of cover art.

  7. Kiss of Deception!!! YES!!! (Um, I kind of love that book, in case you couldn’t tell.) Oh, and I got Damsel Distressed from the library after Mishma’s review – have it now – I think she’s the one who convinced both of us to read it. 🙂

  8. I somehow forgot to order a copy of An Ember in the Ashes in my last haul and now I’m trapped by my own ban not to order new books until I clear my TBR 🙁 And aaaah, I still haven’t read Throne of Glass! I’ve heard it’s not so good as its sequels, and I’m just like “but what if I don’t survive past the first book?”

I LOVED Cait’s post, especially since I was in a writing slump then and NEEDED that post.

    • I honestly wasn’t sure I’d survive ToG- I was rolling my eyes in the beginning a LOT. But it got better, much better, and I am now excited to read the next one! As for Ember… DO ITTTTT. I shall enable everyone! 😉

I loved Cait’s post too- I think I am in a perma-slump, but she still made me feel better 😀

  9. Nice haul of books this week. Throne of Glass was amazing. AEITA was terrific. I really enjoyed that book so much. I hope you do as well.

  10. You read Kiss Of Deception!!! Yay! Why DID you wait so long!? Also I really want to know who you ship because I got so confused with the shipping in that book. Congratulations on holding yourself back from requesting, I’m doing about as well as you on that whole thing. 😉

But seriously how is it May!? I feel like April was only two weeks long this year, it was here and then it was gone.

I think the most exciting thing to happen to me this week was getting a review copy of The Lady In Blue by Kinberly G. Giarratano, which is tHe sort of companion novel to Grunge Gods and Graveyards all about The Lady In Blue and Shannon I’m so excited! Besides that my weeks be meh, not bad not overly exciting. =)

    • I don’t know! The worst part is, I have had the book for at LEAST 6 months. And RAFE. I love Rafe. But apparently, a lot of people prefer Kaden? How about you?

Right? This year is FLYING by! OHHHH I got that tooooo! I didn’t get it in time to add it to this week’s haul but it’ll be there next week- I am SO excited to read it- we will have to talk about it after we both read it!!

      • I feel like we always ship different people, because I love Kaden! But I was so confused because I feel like I was jumping back and forth with who I shipped because I picked between the Assassin and the Prince and then between Kaden and Rafe and I wasn’t shipping the same person once it was revealed. I was, and am still, so confused! =D

And yes, we will have to talk all about it once we’ve both read it because it’s so exciting!

  11. Throne of Glass for $4 is a total deal and an absolute yes. How could anyone pass that by. I also got An Ember in the Ashes and look forward to reading as you must be as well. I have heard so many good thing and well I hope it doesn’t let me down. The others I have not heard about but 99 cent is a must buy auto every time I see one that may be interesting. Great Haul and I hope you enjoy your new reads.

    • Right there with you on Hold Me Like a Breath 🙁 It was so sad, because I wanted to like it, I really did! But I am so glad you enjoyed Ember, I am starting it tonight! Thanks so much, I hope you have a had a great weekend too 😀

  12. Looking forward to seeing what you think of An Ember of Ashes & A Kiss of Deception Shannon – I’ve heard nothing but glowing reviews for both of them, so I hope you end up liking it as well. Thanks for sharing, and happy reading! xx

  13. I cannot BELIEVE how fast this year has gone. Not that I’m complaining, because May means THE END OF SCHOOL. Until September. Then I cry all over again.

I’ve been seriously considering buying The Kiss of Deception. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, but the whole “two mysterious and handsome strangers” thing is really putting me off.

  14. I feel like this year is dragging on forever! Maybe that’s because there’s been an eternal winter here. Last week it finally started to get warm and it actually looks like spring. I’m looking forward to reading An Ember in the Ashes and Dumplin’. I hope you hear from EW soon! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    • Well, that IS true, winter was very ridiculous this year! But, maybe because it is over, now the nice weather time is moving super fast? Because let’s face it, it WILL be 90 degrees in about 3 days 😉 Thanks so much, I hope I hear too- and that it’s good news 😀

  15. Throne of Glass is an amazing book 😀 I LOVE that series and the prequel novella is good as well.

An Ember in the Ashes looks good. Nice haul, happy reading XD

  16. Dumplin’ looks kind of interesting!

I laughed at your comment about three books cos while I aim for more (or less sometimes) I seem to mostly get through 3 each week!

    Deb

  17. Oh yes! The year is going by so fast already. Before I know it, it will be Xmas time and I’ll be in debt up to my ears lol Sounds like a good week for the blog. May you have another awesome week ahead.

  18. I think everyone is reading some of your new books except me! LOL I am so behind on new releases and series.
And yes, May is here and flying by already. I just came in from cleaning the pool and repotting some plants. It’s perfect weather and I want it to stop right here.

    • Aw, I know what you mean! It is hard to keep up, honestly. I have pre orders from last year at this time that I still haven’t read. It is bad! Ooooh cleaning the pool!? Jealous! That sounds so amazing! (I agree with you, I could live with this temperature- no 90s and 100s, please and thank you 😉 )

  19. Dumplin and Damsel Distressed sound pretty amazing. They’re in my TBR already, I like how both of the books are diverse with a different concept in YA, it’s rare you ever read about a chubby girl or the “evil” stepsister! Great post Shannon.

  20. Gah I gotta read Hold Me Like A Breath. Bleh. BUT MAN YOU GOT ANOTHER EDITION OF THRONE OF GLASS? WELL THEN. Anyways, I also got Dumplin’, and ALSO I BOUGHT AN EMBER IN THE ASHES. No idea when I’ll get to it, but I’ll try.

    • Hahah welll…. I mean, it isn’t great. And HOLLY DID TOO. I am not the only one wasting money here 😉 Ohhh YAY I am glad when you buy books! And Dumplin’ sounds so fun. I got ummm a few more today so I will be reading non-stop I guess 😉

  21. I just bought Damsel Distressed too! It was so cheap and I absolutely love the premise. And when I read the opening lines, I was hooked. I just read Hold Me Like A Breath too. The main character kind of annoyed me and it was a bit slow at times. But I was surprised to find myself liking it at the end. It was different though.

  22. How did I miss Throne of Glass for $4? Thanks for the Hold Me Like A Breath warning. I got Ember in the Ashes for sale on the Kindle, but I’m just not in an intense read mood right now. Happy reading.
