This Week At Midnight (53)

TWAM

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. I also decided that since I do a weekly recap, it really is just good sense to link up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

I was beginning to think that my mailman was hoarding all the books on me but then a few came! I also have a conspiracy theory about a dude that actually does hoard stuff in a creepy van that he parks outside my house but…. it’s probably not that either.

The Books:

All Fall Down by Ally Carter (books from the UK are extra fun- this came with free mascara!)

City of Savages by Lee Kelly  HUGE thanks to author Lee Kelly and Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl!

Weekly Shenanigans

I did read stuff, albeit not as much as I’d hoped. BUT, I enjoyed the books I read, and guys, you will be so proud of one of them!

13519397 and 22729416

I approve of both books. And you approve of my reading Throne of Glass, right? Don’t worry, I have already summoned Crown of Midnight to find its way to my doorstep. Via money and the mailman.

On the Blog:

Still plenty of time to enter the March New Release Giveaway Hop!!

And, last call to enter my 1,000 Follower Twitter Giveaway of The Winner’s Crime! It ends Sunday, March 22 at 11:59 EDT

Up Next:

More stuff and things! I have a discussion post (not written of course, that’d be silly) in my head. And I have reviews that are also in my head. And get this- even one that is already scheduled. I don’t know what to do with this sudden and random preparation. I also want to do the Cake Tag (thanks Cait!) because it looks fun and delicious. AND, I plan to do a season wrap-up for The 100, but it may end up being the week after, because math and time limit me.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen? Did it snow six inches on the first day of spring, as it did here? Share away!

  1. I DON’T TORMENT ANYONE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. Thanks Shannon. AND OF COURSE you already bought the next book in Throne of Glass hahaha. I should actually check how much that is on Amazon. Hmm. Though I’m kind of saving all my money for BEA, UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE. Just kidding.

Also I’m stealing your copy of Mosquitoland. 😀

    • Listen, you can’t peer pressure someone to START a series, and then not expect them to get the next book. Especially when you know this person has a problem with buying all the books. Also, it was like $7. Not a big deal. And you may NOT steal Mosquitoland! It is pretty, and I have not read it yet.

  2. Great haul! I’ve heard such amazing things about Mosquitoland and City of Savages! I can’t wait to see what you think of them! I have All Fall Down but haven’t read it yet, hopefully soon though. I hope you enjoy all of your new books 🙂

    • No, just order from Book Depository! And then like magic, free mascara! It was a fun surprise 😉 OH- and I think my comments on your blog might be going to spam, because they disappear after I post them! Just an FYI 😉

  3. It didn’t snow here, but it did randomly get cold again. We had a few sunny days though, so I’m not complaining! Sorry about the snow. =/ Why am I never getting free mascara, I need free mascara! 😀 Seriously though, I’m happy you got some new books. 🙂 Not sure I feel comfortable with the hoarder parked out on the street though haha

    • My existing mascara was probably from like, 2007? So this is a good thing. Not that I will use it more than once a year, but hey!

And the guy on the street isn’t great! But I don’t think there’s a thing I can do about it. 🙁

  4. YAY! Throne of Glass!! I am proud! Oh, I really want to read City of Savages. It will be read in the next few weeks, for sure. I’ve heard good things about Mosquitoland. Have a great weekend (Mine started out not so good, my son just emptied a container of baby powder EVERYWHERE, including all over the cat! I asked why he did it and his answer was, “because I couldn’t help myself”. I’m actually glad I have to work tonight!). Happy reading!

    • Oh wow, that does NOT sound fun! Kids are too much. And I started City of Savages last night, so I will be curious to hear what you think of it too! Hope the weekend got better for you 🙂

  5. Throne of Glass wasn’t for me, but I know lots of people love that series. That post about the stakes in writing was pretty interesting! Thanks for sharing! I hope you will enjoy your new books. I always love it when I have a new discussion post idea, I actually wrote a few this week. I am curious about your discussion post. Have a great week!

    • Aw thanks! I was iffy about Throne of Glass at the start, to be honest. Calaena was so VAIN. I mean, girl, you are coming out of a slave camp fighting for your damn life and you’re worried about your hair and boobs? I am sad for women everywhere! But then it got much better and she stopped freaking out about her looks every 5 minutes 😉

  6. That comment about the dude in the creepy van hoarding stuff made me laugh, hopefully he doesn’t take Crown Of Midnight!

I wish we had snow! It’s a little cooler here than it was last week but winter pretty much skipped us this year. =(

And you have a review scheduled!? Oh my gosh, Shannon are you sick? Haha, sorry I had to. =)

    • He didn’t! He left it for me, thank goodness. Though, come to think of it, his van wasn’t there on the one day that THREE books came in the mail. Coincidence? I think noT!

LISTEN UP. You can have ALL our snow. All ten million inches of it. It’s yours. TAKE IT AWAY.

And right!? I have THREE posts scheduled for this week. I think something is seriously wrong 😉

  7. YOU ARE SO WELCOME FOR THE CAKE TAG. Basically who couldn’t like the cake tag? I’m convinced whoever created it read my mind.
OH MOSQUITOLAND LOOKS GOOD! I mean, it sounds itchy, but it looks good.

  8. Very nice haul this week. I so want to read Mosquitoland! Lucky you. I was beginning to think someone was lifting books from my mailbox until a few straggled in yesterday.LOL
Our last hurrah of winter arrived this morning with pouring rain. So I’ll be curling up with a book today!

    • Ew, rain is no fun either! Especially cold rain. And I DID get a few books in the mail yesterday, BUT the creepy van wasn’t there either. Coincidence? 😉 Hope you enjoyed your reading day!

  9. I am 54 and still avoid those grown up moments you talk about in your “All About Shannon” section. I think my first came in 1997 when my husband had an accident and the second when my father passed 2 years later. Still today I often feel childish – not childlike; more spoiled, stubborn and tantrum oriented.

I’ve heard good things about the throne of glass series. Enjoy.

    • Aww, I am glad I am not the only one 😉 I am sorry about having to face those very traumatic adult experiences though- that’s something no one, adult or child, wants to go through. I am definitely all those things you describe as childish, I must admit! Maybe some things just never change!

  10. I got Ally Carter’s book a few weeks ago with the mascara it’s fun to get free gifts with a book. Your other books I want to check out as I haven’t heard too much about them. I still haven’t read Throne of Glass even though everyone tells me too.

  11. How cool is that? You get a free mascara with an amazing book. I’m excited to see what you think about it, since it’s one I really want to read.

  12. I imported my favorite blogs from bloglovin to feedly and because for some reason your blog has no feed it didn’t show up on my feedly and so I have missed my daily dose of It Starts At Midnight *sob* Anywho I have been meaning to pick up a copy of They All Fall Down! It sounds so good and I think I could enjoy it. Cute that it came with mascara! Beauty Products and Books ~ all in one package 😀 Exactly what I consider nirvana!!

    • I am having some difficulty with my feed. I really don’t know what I am doing wrong but…. something. I am doing something wrong. It works most of the time, but there are a handful of sites that have trouble with my feed, and I don’t understand why. I need like, professional help! That said, I am tickled that you care about me being missing! You kind of made my day 🙂

And if you get a copy, order from Book Depository, and it may have makeup inside!

        • See, I have Feedburner, but for some reason, the feedburner feed is different than my blog feed? It’s weird. I tried to fix it so let me know if it still isn’t working. I may have to find someone with some kind of actual professional knowledge, since clearly, I am lacking 😉

    • I am scared for feels! GAHHHH. And I started City of Savages last night, I am about to go read more!! And seriously WHY is the weekend so fast moving? I do not like. It is already Monday, and I am kind of pissed. 🙁

  13. Oh, I hope you enjoy City of Savages! I did not quite… I mean, it was good, but not what I wanted in a dystopian so I DNF’d. 😛 I’m going to read Mosquitoland soon though! It looks so good! Great haul!!

  14. I *so* share that feeling of ‘OMG I’ve actually got stuff scheduled!’ I’m truly dreadful at prepping stuff and write very much on the spur of the moment (otherwise known as the day before the review is due) It’s a terrible habit and I do myself no favours, but my schedule at home is a nightmare and very often, there just isn’t the time.
And I want a copy of Mosquitoland so bad it hurts. argh.

    Have a great week xx

    • Hahha that is exactly how I am! Plus, I feel like I have no inspiration when I try to schedule out- but apparently, freaking out over a post minutes before it needs to be done gives me TONS of inspiration 😉 And I hear you with the schedule- that is the biggest part of my problem! Hope you have a great week too 🙂

  15. I love the book photography 🙂 I’m hoping to hear your thoughts on City of Savages and Throne of Glass soon, I’m excited to read Crown of Midnight as well, the hype has got to me lol x
