Let Them Eat Cake!

cake

The lovely Cait @ Paper Fury tagged me to do the CAKE BOOK TAG!! Fun, because, um, hello, it’s CAKE.  Also, Cait took ALL THE GOOD GIFs.

Flour

A BOOK THAT WAS A LITTLE SLOW TO START OFF BUT REALLY PICKED UP AS IT WENT ALONGWill-Ferrell-Maggie-Gyllenhaal-Stranger-than-Fiction-flour

Well, this probably fits the bill for a lot of books, no? I’ll pick a few, if I must. Here are 3 that I seriously almost DNFed (or did DNF, but came back to):

Butter

A BOOK THAT HAD A RICH, GREAT PLOTtumblr_m4x4d9t9Dk1rrifv1o1_500

Um, why am I reading tons of books with crappy, sub-par plots? I am not. So many books have great plots, that is kind of the point? GAH, this question. I am just going to go with “books that kept me on the edge of my seat”, because how else do I answer this?

Eggs

A BOOK YOU THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE BAD BUT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT QUITE ENJOYABLE

tumblr_lhv1uh4l8q1qbu6jzo1_500

I am with Cait- who the hell thinks eggs are going to be bad? Nonsense! I shall still answer the question. WAIT: do you think it’s like that weird old insult “go suck an egg”? I never got that either, but maybe that is what it means?

My reasons for almost not reading three of my all-time favorites? Theatre, Military, Cheesy Cover. In that order. I should be smacked. But hey, at least I read them!

Sugar

A SUGARY, SWEET BOOKMPM-PHOTO12AverageWomen-Blood-Sugar

Confession:  I apparently don’t really read these, like, ever. I tried to suggest some the other day (on two different occasions!) and could come up with pretty much nothing. Here’s the best I can do:

And seriously, none of them is particularly fluffy, it’s just the closest I’ve read. I don’t think fluff suits me.

Icing

A BOOK THAT COVERED EVERY SINGLE ELEMENT THAT YOU ENJOY ABOUT A BOOK (FUNNY MOMENTS, ACTION MOMENTS, SAD MOMENTS, ETC.)Pinkie-pinkie-pie-29355664-360-360

When I set out to do this tag, I did not expect it to be so complicated. Hrumph.

These had a little bit of all of those things: The witty, the feels, the action, the characters… yeah.

Sprinkles

A BOOK SERIES THAT YOU CAN KIND OF TURN BACK TO FOR A LITTLE PICK ME UP WHEN YOU’RE FEELING DOWNcupcake-sprinkle-drop-gif-renkli-duvar-blogspot-com-cupcake-gif-tumblr

Um, this is weird, right? I do not care.

The Cherry On Top

YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK THIS YEAR SO FARtumblr_m25q2tyVqJ1r1fz0co5_250

Again, with the Sophie’s Choice, huh, tag maker? You’re lucky it’s only March.

2246559721936988 (1)18460392

This was hard. And actually, The Sin Eater’s Daughter is my only five+ star. (I’ll Meet You There was too, but I read it last year, technically.)

And that’s it!  I shall tag some people, fun! I will tag7 people, because it is my favorite number and also, that is how many pieces of cake I want right now.

Okay, let’s discuss: What kind of cake do you like? (The one in the picture is a layer of key lime, a layer of rum, and a layer of carrot.) Do you think eggs are evil? Do you understand the “suck an egg” phrase?

  1. What’s with all the food related tags!? I love them, but they make me hungry! I just got over my chocolate craving from the chocolate tag and now I really really want cake! I guess I’ll just have to settle for doing the tag?(Thanks for the tag Shannon!)

This seems both extremely delicious and extremely hard. As for the suck an egg saying, I have no idea what it means, I’m convinced a lot of those old phrases don’t actually mean anything. Eggs gross me out though, I don’t know why. I eat them all the time, I bake with them all the time, but the actual raw egg freaks me out.

My favorite kind of cake is cheesecake, but after that it’s my mom’s german chocolate cake, I mean, it has coconut icing, what’s better than that? Nothing(unless you don’t like coconut).

Also, for the record, I think To All The Boys I’ve Loved before totally counts as fluffy, it’s the perfect balance of fluffy and more serious in my fluffy loving opinion. =)

    • I know, I have to do the chocolate one too! Actually, I had planned to do it WITH this one, but I got too tired and gave up.

But eggs are yummy! And omg, how did I forget CHEESECAKE! IT IS SO GOOD! And German Chocolate is amazing too….. YUM.

And good, I am glad it counts, because it’s all I’ve got 😉

  2. Your food post is making me hungry in the middle of the night .. </3 I agree with you on I'll Meet You There, the cover is just horrible, it doesn't suit the book at all. I loved the book too, and I liked Rites of Passane and Oh yeah The Sin Eater's Daughter and the cover is stunning xD great answers! I actually don't like eating eggs lol.

  3. This is such a fun tag, I’ve seen it around and I don’t think I’ve ever done it so I may have to give it a go! 😉

Great choices. I know what you mean about Blood Red Road, it’s a little slow to start and then suddenly it turns into the most awesome book ever and I ended up loving it. 😀

    • I am so glad you decided to do it 😉 And yes! That is exactly how Blood Red Road was- I actually had put it down for awhile before deciding to try again, but I was so glad I did!

  4. Why are you making me so hungry?!
All I can think of now is cheesecake. MMM>>>CAKE!
Anyway, I totally relate to what you mean about the Knife of Never Letting Go. I love it so much, it really did pick up and it only got better and better and BETTER. Love your collection of the Hunger Games. Talk about a dedicated fangirl.

    • Sorry, I know, I made myself hungry too! GAH cheesecake, how I love thee!

And YES! The Knife of Never Letting Go was slow and kind of weird but then…. oh my goodness! And thanks, I am feeling an itch for more Hunger Games books 😉

  5. To answer your question, I’d have to say that I’ve wanted to eat red velvet cake for the longest time. Barring that, chocolate always wins 🙂

I was tagged to do this too, and am pleased to see a few overlapping books on our list 😀 I think I’ll add Ignite Me to my TBR; I’ve heard so many good things about it. And oh my GOODNESS you have so many editions of the Hunger Games. SO FABULOUS.

  6. THIS IS THE MOST FUN TAG EVER. For the first two I HAVE READ NONE OF THOSE BOOKS. I have never gotten that saying, to be honest, haha. But agree, I thought Rites of Passage to be like it was, IT WAS GOOD. DAMN GOOD.

I never thought fluffy books suited me, either. But then I read Stephanie Perkins and Kasie West. Those are now always my recommendations, so damn cute and funny and feels. 😉
Oh my God, Denton Little’s Deathdate was hilarious. SO HILARIOUS. Like, I was laughing all the way through it.

HAHA, uhm, yeah. The Hunger Games did not cheer me up. Buuuuuuuut, it did get me out of a reading slump.

YES OF THE FAVOURITES (Well, not Vanishing Girls since I haven’t read it yet) BUT YES.

I like eggs, mainly because I can crack them one-handed with no shell, and nobody else in my house can so I win. COFFEE CAKE. ALL THE COFFEE CAKE IS MINE. Whoever likes Coffee Cake, go away, IT IS MINE.

    • Rites of Passage. Ugh, I need more of it in my life. And YES to Denton Little. So freaking funny.

And The Hunger Games doesn’t cheer me up based on content, but just on how much I love reading them.

The favorites were hard! I haven’t really read too many epic books yet this year, though I am hoping that changes!

YUM coffee cake, I approve! ANd HOW do you crack the eggs!? I get shells all over, and then cut myself and…. let’s suffice it to say I am NOT a good cook or baker 😉

  7. Like wait. Are we SURE Cait didn’t create this tag? No? I could have sworn…

Also. The Innocent Centaur. The best. My favorite thing.

And I’m so behind on tags, but hey, this is about CAKE. I’m totes going to do it. It’s going to be SWEET. <–see what I did there? Hehe.

  8. I love this tag, but man it just makes me crave cake. Mmmm . . . cake!

And thinking about my favorite book of the year is HARD. I would have put All the bright places at the top of the list when I first read it, but I have read some awesome books since then. I think it would still make the top ten though.

  9. YESSSS I WANTED TO DO THIS ONE THANK YOU SHANNON!!! As for my cake… I love a nice, moist chocolate cake. But I’ll also accept carrot cake, if someone can make it without walnuts. And if this were gluten free that be even better 😉

Oh and I’m reading The Sin Eater’s Daughter, and it’s really interesting so far!

    • YAY I am glad you want to do it! Chocolate is always a win. I do NOT like Carrot Cake UNLESS it has walnuts and NO RAISINS because raisins are disgusting.

I am so glad you are liking The Sin Eater’s Daughter, YAY!

  10. This tag is seriously my favorite thing ever. I MEAN COME ON- CAKE AND BOOKS!? Don’t think it gets better than that [;

I must say that you used some great gifs here. That Paula Deen one for the butter section? Perfect usage hahaha, I actually laughed.

….I actually don’t like eggs 😮 Don’t kill me girl. Like yeah, in cake they’re great. But on their own? Yeah, not a fan. Though if I must eat them, I don’t mind them too much if they’re scrambled :p

I loved reading your answers here, and definitely feel your pain. I’m pretty much the most indecisive person ever so picking answers for tags is definitely a struggle for me. I feel like I should get my act together though, I haven’t read any of your favorite books this year 😮 Ooops.

Great post girl! And oooo my favorite cake? That’s a toughie. Been really feeling Chocolate Lava cake recently though(:

    • I agree, cake and books are pretty perfect! Just don’t spill cake ON the books, or then we’d have a disaster 😉

Aw yay, I am glad Cait didn’t take ALL the good gifs 😉 And why, why all the egg hate!? I guess we all have our likes and dislikes!

Picking books is HARD. Especially when very few books seem to fit the question. And oh my goodness, chocolate lava cake!? I NEED!

  11. I am in love with the gifs and pics in this post. IN LOVE, I tell you. And the tag is much more complicated than it sounds, isn’t it? 😀 I love the Hunger Games as an answer for a pick me up book hahaha Am I being immodest when I say my favorite cake is my chocolate cake? Ah well, who cares. IT IS SO GOOD OMG. 😀 And I didn’t invent the recipe, so it’s not like I can actually take credit. That one and my grandma’s Snow White cake, which is equally delicious.

    • Aw thanks! And YES- why is cake so difficult!?! And no, you aren’t being immodest, just truthful 😉 I wish I knew how to make good cake! Your grandma’s cake sounds really good too. And now I need cake. Again.
