This Week At Midnight (48)

TWaM

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. I also decided that since I do a weekly recap, it really is just good sense to link up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Weekly Shenanigans

I finally read books! This makes me happy, since last week I only read one lonely (albeit amazing) book. What doesn’t make me happy is that I didn’t exactly have a stellar reading week (meaning, these books weren’t quite my favorites):

We’ll discuss these later. Cut Me Free was decent, and I’ll leave it at that.

On the Blog:

Still lots of time left for February’s Discussion Challenge link up and giveaway!! And you can still fill out the ridiculous blogging questionnaire here! Hopefully, I will have the first batch of results next week!

Fun in the Blogosphere:

Um, I planned on doing more this week but… I got tired, okay? Sorry!

Up Next:

I was tagged by a few lovely bloggers for some kind of versatile something tag that I am sure I’ll butcher. I wanted to do it last week but… time. And I have things to say about a bunch of books. AND, I think I will be ready with part one of the blogger survey!! And I will be participating in the FFBC Blog Tour for A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas on Friday.  Look at me, I have a kind of plan!

Happy Valentine’s Day, loves! Spill: Love it or hate it? I’m not a fan, but I do adore these little Valentines:valentines

I’m not even going to pretend to understand why he had to have that coaster in his mouth all day, okay? Just know that he didn’t drop it, not even to get a better picture.

  1. Ooh, The Last Time We Say Goodbye has such a pretty spine. I’ve got Little Peach too! I’m thinking of making it one of my next couple reads, maybe.

Omg, how did you like Magonia? I love the cover so much. Oh….Just read your comment saying they weren’t your favorites. Well then….I know I saw your comments about The Memory Key on Twitter. Hmm…Oh no, I read the rest of your comments about them….No talk about Magonia, that’s certainly not good. 🙁

I’ll have to check out your bookish couples post. You did more than me! 🙂 I was supposed to review two books this week and, well, you see….Oh look, fun in the blogosphere.

I’m going to have to read this tear inducing post of Cait’s. And Melanie’s post as well.

    Congrats on the blog tour!

I….don’t really care for V-Day. 🙂 I’m more of an “Oh, ok then”.

Aw, they look so cute. 🙂

    • I think Little Peach will be coming up soon for me too, for it is small 😉 And ummm. Magonia didn’t go so well for me. But others seemed to like it, so maybe it was just me?

I am the same with V-Day. Actually, I will be honest, it irritates me! Mainly because of jealousy 😉 And thanks so much!

  2. Nice haul! I got The Glass Arrow, too. I’ve been looking forward to it. Magonia is one of my most anticipated books of the year (ok, so I already have it but I haven’t read it, but I’m still anticipating reading it), I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Your cuties are the cutest! Happy Valentine’s Day!

  3. Anna and Lola! <3 My OCD is in full swing with that series, because I have all the new covers, but two paperbacks and a hardcover. *twitch twitch* I've seriously got to do something about that soon. I keep side-eying The Last Time We Said Goodbye, but I don't know if my heart can take it. I think that's something I'll have to read when I'm in the right mood.

    Have a great weekend!

    My StS!

    • I have the same! The new covers, but Isla is a hardcover. I am okay with it since the covers match. I think. I’d say I’d trade Isla for a paperback but… it’s signed. So I can’t.

I honestly don’t think my heart can take The Last Time We Say Goodbye right now either! It’s a good thing I have a few other books I must read before I can read it 😉

    • Aw thank you! And yeah, it isn’t a favorite of mine, never has been. I think I’d like it more if I had like, someone making it special hahha. But as it stands, I just get super jealous 😉

  4. I love Valentine’s Day. Even when I was single, really. It is nice to have a day to think about love, lost and current. I am very jealous you got Red Queen. I really, really want that book. I don’t want a digital copy, I want it to adorn my shelves after I read it.

  5. Aw I’m sad to hear Magnolia wasn’t a favorite! I want to read that one. Also – I have my eye on Little Peach. I’ve seen some really strong reviews but it’s obviously a difficult subject matter and I need to mentally prepare for that one. LOVED Red Queen and cannot wait to read The Glass Arrow! And I am kind of indifferent about V-Day but your kids are adorable. 🙂

    • I know, I was bummed about it too, honestly 🙁 But I’ve seen better reviews for it, so hopefully I’ll just be the black sheep! I have heard the same about Little Peach, I am scared, but I think it’ll be good. I am so glad you loved Red Queen, that makes me so excited!! And thank you 🙂

  6. CHILDREN? SO CUTE? CAN I HAVE THEM. Just kidding. They’re both adorable though. And yayayayya Anna and Lola. I have yet to read Lola though, not sure when I’ll get to it. AND RED QUEEN. I’m going to get that too sooooon 🙂

I’M GLAD YOU HAD AN AWESOME WEEEEK

  7. Your Valentine’s are adorable!

I LOVED The Last Time We Say Goodbye so much, it did start a little slow but it got really, really good. I really didn’t like Red Queen, but I think I’m actually in the minority on that one, but I hope you enjoy it more than I did. And YAY for Anna and Lola <3

  8. Yay for getting some reading done! I always feel so off balance if I’m not doing much reading during the week. I still haven’t read Anna and the French Kiss and that makes me a little sad but I’m hoping to get to it soon. Enjoy your new books and I love your Valentine’s! Have a great week!

  9. Yay for reading books ! And you have found yourself some great new ones, there are some I want to read in that pile. I love your pretty little Valentines but we’re not much into Valentine day here. We usually spend a quiet evening home enjoying ourselves. Have a great week !

  10. Awww, those kids look so adorable! They’re so precious and look like they’re bursting with love <3 <3 I can't wait to see what you'll think of Little Peach! I reviewed this not too long ago and it broke my heart into two with the tragic story of the young heroine.

  11. Oooh, you got Lola and Isla! I read Anna and the French Kiss a couple of years ago and then only realized it became a series (of some sort? I never quite understood how the books are connected) when I got into book blogging. I’m looking forward to your reviews because I remember that I liked Anna, but it’s been so long and my taste changed a bit, so I haven’t decided whether I want the sequels yet (okay, I’ve totally decided, but I’m not buying more books until I actually have space on my to be read stack again :D).

I only got City of Heavenly Fire this week since I’m technically still not buying any books (but I bought a CD and amazon delivers for free when you include a book so OBVIOUSLY I included a book), but I’m not writing a wrap up post this week because I should be studying. I mean I am. Well, I’m at the library at least, so I think my presence should count for something. 😀

I don’t have a problem with Valentine’s Day. Of course it’s a bit commercial, but who cares? So are all other holidays, and no one really makes a fuss then. I only have a problem with whiny people who complain about being single on Valentine’s Day. This year and last I had Important Things to do and sort of just treated it like any other day, but in previous years I used the occasion to meet friends and have cocktails or go to the cinema. It was fun!

    • I was never sure I wanted to read the Anna series, but then I won Isla so… yeah, it has to happen 😉

Also, I am pretty sure that being in the library qualifies, since some of the knowledge just kind of seeps into your brain, via some kind of osmosis? That’s my story, anyway. And yes, you HAVE to buy the book if you get free shipping! It only makes economic sense!

I am just bitter about Valentine’s Day in general, and I fully admit it! I get so jealous of all the romantic things I see everyone else doing, which is why I am so glad when it’s over 😉

  12. I grew up celebrating Valentine’s Day with family and friends included, so it has always meant more to me than just a day for romance. I guess that is why I love it with or without a significant other. I never miss a chance to let family and friends know they are special, and Valentine’s Day is perfect for that. And besides, CHOCOLATE!! Your two little Valentines are adorable. 🙂

    • Aw that is so nice! I think I’d like Valentine’s Day a lot more that way. I agree, if I were celebrating people I loved in general, it’d be a much nicer time! And thank you so much 🙂

  13. Haha, adorable pictures! I’m not huge on Valentines but I love the candy!

Also I’m jealous that you have a real plan for blogging this week, my plan is a nonexistent mess for the most part!

So, glad you got Anna and Lola! I love those books. =)

    • Thanks! I don’t know why, but we never got candy as kids. Maybe I’d like it more if I did!

While having a plan is good, I am also a bit trapped by it so maybe it isn’t so good after all 😉

    • Oh, I could use a swoon! I think I may need to read them soon 🙂 And I have heard VERY mixed things about The Glass Arrow, but it sounded like something I needed. I’d had it pre ordered since like, last May or something insane. So I figured “why not”? Ha, because of money.

  14. I hope to read that Stephanie Perkins series eventually as many bloggers seem to love it and the main character is called Lola as well, which is always an unique experience when reading. The Last Time We Say Goodbye sounds like a sad book, I loved Cynthia Hand her Unearth;y series, but not sure if I want to read this one.
I don’t really care about valentine’s day, although I did have a great valentine’s day this year whcih invlved a rose and chocolates, yum!

    • I don’t think I have ever read a book where the character had my name! And your name is pretty unique, so that kind of makes it more fun 😉

And yes, The Last Time We Say Goodbye is likely to make me sob. That is why I am not reading it yet, basically!

Awww, I am glad you had a lovely Valentine’s Day!!

  15. I just got Red Queen and Anna and the French Kiss this week too! (Yes, I know a romance. My plan was to read it for Valentines, and then I read Vicious instead…)

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your books more. I only read one book this week because I was savoring it. Magonia looked interesting, I look forward to hearing why it wasn’t that great. I wish you better luck this week!

I don’t really feel one way or the other about Valentine’s. My father was the only one who ever gave me one. Cute photos of your kiddies! 🙂
