Books I Want to Read With You

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Ten Books I’d Love to Read With My Book Club/If I Had A Book Club (or you could pick a specific kind of book club — like if you had a YA book club or an adult book club or a science fiction book club etc.)

I don’t have a book club. I don’t know enough people to have an in-person book club, and to be honest, I feel like I would rage against any book club. Even if it is a book I am dying to read, I have a feeling I’d get angry “having to” read it. So, these are books I would like to read simultaneously with someone, or even a couple of someones. But in a laid back way, but that I could still flail or rant with someone.

186211941. Half Bad by Sally Green

This is complete, outright cheating, because I am currently reading this with Jess @ Curiouser and Curiouser. So sue me.

2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Because if I am going to be sobbing on the floor, I’d like to at least know that someone else is sobbing right along with me.

3. Nil Unlocked by Lynne Matson

This is just because it implies I would have Nil Unlocked. Which I don’t.

15839976

4. Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Um, I need to read this, and having someone pushing me along wouldn’t be the worst thing.

84901125. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

We must be the last two people in the world who haven’t read it, so if you are the one remaining holdout, we should probably read it together!

197323816. Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas

I mean, you know there are going to be spoilery twists and I am going to need someone to talk about them with!

7. The 100 by Kass Morgan

Another cheat, because Holly @ The Fox’s Hideaway and I are going to this during The 100 hiatus. Gotta snark something!

8. The Gone series (books 2-6) by Michael Grant

Guys, these books are long. I need motivation, stat.

9. The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins

Guys, I need a reread in a bad way. Maybe before Mockingjay Part 2,(also known as the day I will have cried all the tears)?

Also, I don’t think it is physically possible for me to have a list on which THG isn’t included. It’s like my fingers won’t let me.

10. Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke

I literally closed my eyes and pointed to my bookshelf because I couldn’t come up with a tenth. True story.

Do you enjoy reading with others? Have you ever been involved with a book club? If so, did you like it? What is it like? I have only really seen sitcom versions of book clubs, so I am rather curious!

  1. Oh, I love how you did your post, I totally just bailed this week instead of trying to come up with a list!

I’ve been to a book club once and it was my moms book club which I had to read a short funny memoir for and it was fun but also they drank more than talked about the book, besides my mom there’s like only one other person in the club that actually reads a lot. I haven’t gone back since! I love the idea of reading with people though! My brothers and I always new Rick Riordan books together but that’s all I’ve ever done!

I think it’d be awesome to read with other bloggers. Also, a Hunger Games reread is definitely in order before Mockingjay pt 2, and personally I’d be disappointed if you didn’t find a way to include it on your list. 😉 I really want to read Book Theif but I’m scared of the feels!

    • I actually came close to bailing, but I figured I could really just make a list of any old books I wanted to read 😉

That is how I pictured a book club too! Wine, snacks, gossip, and very little actual bookish talk.

I think I now need a way to incorporate THG into EVERY Top Ten post. Like, it can be my “thing”. Thanks for the idea! I am scared of the feels too. So, so scared.

  2. I really need to read Red Rising and Golden Son after seeing all those glowing reviews myself. I feel like I’m the only one left. 😀

  3. Great list, Shannon! 😀 Haha, it totally didn’t occur to me include Half Bad on my list – that’s a missed opportunity!

I still need to Red Rising, too, and I keep meaning to read the Gone series. One of my friends ended up reading the entire series in the space of about two months last year, so it’s about time I at least read the first one…

(I also haven’t read Daughter of Smoke and Bone, so don’t worry you’re not the only one!)

  4. Great list. I read the Gone series last year and LOVED it. It still remains one of my favorite series ever. I have The Book Thief on my TBR. It’s been there for a while so a book club would inspire me to read it. 🙂

    • Oh wow really? This is good news! Did the first book drag a bit for you? It did for me, and that is why I am a bit hesitant. But I will finish them, because I own them all 😉 And thanks!

  5. Dangerous boys would be a good book to talk about! The ending was very good. THE BOOK THIEF. SO you can share all the pain and beauty and awesomeness <3 Gosh, that's one of my all time favorite books.

  6. Yes to BOOK THIEF. I’ve never read it myself, and for exactly that reason! I know it’s going to break my heart. I need emotional support to get through it. I can’t do it alone.

  7. Being in a Goodreads group is the closest I have ever been to participating in a book club. But, I still love to discuss books (which is why I made a blog). In a way, I guess my blog is like my book club. Anyway, I really need to read most of the books on your list. I would love to have a whole club to help me finally get through my TBR. That thing is too massive to be handled alone.

    • I have tried to do Goodreads group ones, but I never do. I think I am a lost cause 😉

I agree with you though- it IS like a book club, because that is basically what we are doing, talking to each other about books we’ve read! SUCH a great point!

  8. It’s okay; I managed to squeeze Heir of Fire on my list yet again today too 😉 And I’m applauding you right now because I don’t think I’ll even be able to see Mockingjay pt. 2 in theaters! Too many tears will be shed.

    • I will sob like a baby. I don’t even plan on trying to be quiet. Because no one else will be either. I am going to go with an entire box of tissues and watch my heart break onscreen. It may be worse than TFiOS. Somehow.

  9. I’m with you on the Gone and Hunger Games series! Admittedly I did read Hunger I while back, but those books are LONG and I need to read #3-6. I also need a refresher before Mockingjay Part 2, although I’m not sure I want to relive some of those character deaths. Love the post:)

    • Thanks!
They are SO long! I just can’t do it right now. Maybe some day I will find myself with a ton of time, and then, The Gone series will happen. Until then… not so much 😉

And I know, the deaths are evil but… I need to read the ending again. It kind of makes up for it, in my opinion.

  10. I READ THE BOOK THIEF FOR MY BOOK CLUB. and everyone was so sad at the end BECAUSE MAN THAT BOOK (aka you should read it NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW)

I suggested Dangerous Girls to my real life book club, I don’t know if they would choose it though. I didn’t do a good job pitching it because WHAT DO I SAY

    • I can’t read it, because I can’t handle the sads right now. Can’t do it! And Dangerous Girls… well you can pitch it as: You HAVE to read it with other people, because you will be all “what the hell just happened?!” and need someone to talk to about it!

    • Oh YAy! What did you think of it? We will definitely be reading the second one, but not until after the show is finished for the season (too much to do!) but if you haven’t read it, we’d love for you to join in!

  11. I’m usually not good with the idea of “having to” read a book either, but for the right books, I could make an exception. I still need to read Half Bad, so I wouldn’t mind book clubbing that one. I have really want to read Red Rising but I just…haven’t. Don’t unique why. I could probably use a push with it. Sorry, can’t help you with Daughter of Smoke and Bone, been there, done that (and loved it). Oddly enough, I haven’t read books 2 & 3 yet…they’re long. I’ll get around to them eventually. I loved Gone, but never read 2-6 either. No idea why. Haha! I like the idea of closing your eyes and pointing to the shelves. I own Dissonance but haven’t cracked the spine on it yet. I think there was a lot released at the same time and it just got pushed aside. I was excited about it, but apparently not enough. I’d probably need a book club to motivate myself to read it at this point. Great list!

    • I am the same with Red Rising. I mean, I want to read it, but the first time I tried it, I “paused” (but I don’t think it counts as pausing when it’s been more than a year!) around 10%. I agree- I HAD to have Dissonance and then… well, it is still there, clearly 😉 And thanks!

  12. I need to read Dangerous Boys, The Book Thief, Red Rising and Daughter of Smoke and Bone (surprisingly you’re not the last two people who haven’t read it (; ). Dissonance also attracts me. I still need to read Mockingjay! One day I will. Or I’ll never see the movie.

  13. Haha, I haven’t. I planned to, even rushed someone to get done with reading my copy so I could read it, then I never got around to it. 🙁 Okay! Later this month would be good for reading it, once I find an actual date, I’ll let you know. 🙂

  14. I asked my friend in December, when we were talking about it, if I would cry seeing Mockingjay and she was like “You? Probably”. So yes, I am totally prepared. 🙂
