Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week.
So, remember last week when I decided to be ridiculous and request all the books? Luckily a few are still trickling in, because this has been a painfully slow book week. Seriously, no book mail! None. I wept. (Fine, I didn’t, but I kind of wanted to.)
For Review:
Some Fine Day by Kat Ross Via Netgalley, thanks to Skyscape. (I had been dying) to read this book when it was to be published by Strange Chemistry, and was so sad for the author when they shut down weeks before publication. Excited to read it for sure!
The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma via Netgalley, thanks to Algonquin. I cannot get the file to open though, which is bumming me out.
None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio via Edelweiss, thanks to HarperTeen
Weekly Shenanigans
I actually read things! Yes, yes, I read four books this week! In truth, I was close to finishing two of them last week, but I’ll take it! , , , and . Cinder was good of course, but you all kind of already know that! And I adored Glory O’Brien, and Forbidden (review coming with blog tour, but do give this one a shot!), and A Thousand Pieces of You was okay. It wasn’t fabulous, as I had hoped, but it wasn’t a complete debacle for me either. More on that this week!
On the Blog:
- On Monday, I flailed a bit about the incredibly weird but very good Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future by A.S. King.
- This week’s Top Ten Tuesday was all about characters we wished would get their own books.
- On Wednesday, I was waiting for Immaculate by Katelyn Detweiler, mostly because it reminded me of Jane the Virgin.
- Thursday was the day I decided to answer some long standing tags with a bunch of varieties of Hunger Games obsessions.
- On Friday, the November New Release Giveaway Hop began! Also, I basically ordered everyone to read Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill.
- Today, I started a brand new feature with Holly @ The Fox’s Hideaway called “Snark From the Ark”, where we basically flail and discuss all things The 100 (the TV show, because neither of us has gotten around to the book yet, oops!)
Up Next:
Of course, the November Giveaway will be going on for the rest of the month! Next week, there may or may not be a special birthday giveaway that involves me get older in the same week of the release of Mockingjay Part 1. I plan on reviewing A Thousand Pieces of You, and maybe have a new, fun feature! And, if I get back in time from the Mockingjay premiere, I will definitely get a book-to-movie review done!
How was your week? Read anything good? Any new purchases? And most importantly, are you planning to see Mockingjay next week?
Looks like you had a great week for reading! I loved Cinder as well. I’ve heard that None of the Above is good, so let me know what you think of it!
Happy reading 🙂
Oh yay! I am glad to hear this. I haven’t even looked it up on Goodreads (only to read the synopsis!) so I am excited now!
YAYAYAYAY you enjoyed Cinder! Also, whatttt, your birthday is coming up? YAY
I’ve also been having problems with The Walls Around Us. Because I can only read it on my computer, though I got it on my kindle by converting it to a pdf. But I would still have liked a formated .mobi for it 😛 Oh well, can’t have everything in life can you?
I *might* have figured it out. But I could not even get it to open on my computer for the longest time. I know when they approved me, they said it wasn’t mobi formatted, but I couldn’t even get it to open as a pdf. I can open it now, and I will check my kindle later to see if it actually worked!
And yep, birthday is on Wednesday! I mean, it is hard to get too excited because… well, the “getting older” thing isn’t much fun after 21, you know? 😉
I’m so pleased you enjoyed Cinder. The series gets better and better, so prepare for some awesome. I may also have some trouble with The Walls Around Us… At least I know I won’t be the only one!
Oh YAY! This is so good to hear, because I really enjoyed Cinder, and I wish I didn’t request ALL the books, because I would be reading Scarlet now!
I hope you don’t have too much trouble with The Walls Around Us. I finally got the PDF to open, so hopefully it’ll work for you too!
You’ve got great books for review! I love to read None of the Above as soon as it hit the shelves, though weeks or months before it arrive in my country. And yes, I’ll definitely watch Mockingjay Part 1. Planning to print a shirt for the movie and I hope it’ll be on time. 🙂
Oh, fun! Does it come out in your country next week as well? The giveaway will be international too, just FYI 🙂
None of the Above doesn’t come out here til the end of April, unfortunately, so I assume it’ll be awhile everywhere 🙁
I’m looking forward to seeing your review on None of the Above. I’ve been eyeing it on Edelweiss, but I didn’t grab it just yet.
Happy reading!
My StS!
I just checked the Goodreads page, and it’s early, but people seem to be loving it, so fingers crossed!
I also loved Cinder and here’s to good reading weeks.
here’s mine.
Yes, I love a good reading week 🙂
None of the Above looks amazing! It looks so different. Hopefully we both end up loving it. 🙂 I haven’t read A Thousand Pieces of You or Forbidden yet, but I’ll get to them soon. Hopefully. *stares at the rest of my review pile*
I’m not sure when I’ll see Mockingjay, but I’m excited for it!
Ugh, review piles! We do it to ourselves, I suppose. But still. Forbidden was really, really good, I hope you enjoy it! And you know, get to see Mockingjay ASAP!
Oh man, I’m so sad because I don’t think I’ll be seeing Mockingjay yet! Too much to do, plus I’m going with my brother who sucks and works too much!
And no I have no new purchases because apparently my book baying ban is actually working this time! I think I read one book this week…maybe? I’m still behind! =)
Hope you have an awesome week!
Nooooooo. Ditch your brother! Hhaha no, that is evil. And Katniss never would have ditched Prim. So I guess you’re stuck.
WHOA good for you! A successful book buying ban!? This is unheard of! Congrats 🙂
Ooh, it looks as though you read fantastic books this week! I myself want to read Glory O’Brien (you’re review convinced me that I need this book sooner than later) and Cinder! I actually borrowed Cinder from the library earlier this year, read 160ish pages and had to take it back…I now own both Cinder and Scarlet, so I really should get onto them soon. I felt very similar to you re: A Thousand Pieces of You and I can’t wait to see what you think of The Walls Around Us and None of the Above. 🙂
It is so good, and so WEIRD. And I owned Cinder and Scarlet too, for AGES before finally getting around to Cinder. Now I guess I will have to wait another year or so to get to Scarlet 😉
I won’t be seeing Mockingjay next week. *cries* Actually, I think there’s still 10 days to go before it’s out in Oz anyway..buuuut I’ll be holidaying in Sydney. I’m trying to convince my family that there’s cinemas there and we can still go see it! But they want to sight see. Weirdos. *grumbles in the corner* I’M SO EXCITED I LITERALLY CANNOT EVEN ABOUT MOCKINGJAY.
I totally want to read the Walls Around Us just for the cover. No shame, no shame.
And I had no bookmail for like 2 weeks and then IT ALL CAME AT ONCE. Now I’m slightly overwhelmed. x) That’s aaalways the way.
WHAT!? Tell your family that my mom is meeting me to watch it at night! And she usually goes to bed at like, 9:00. So where is their commitment to the cause? The rebellion will not be won with attitudes like that!
I hope I get all kinds of bookmail soon. I miss it! I won a bunch of giveaways but that guy in the van must still be stealing them. Or something. Grr.
I really hope you get to see Mockingjay ASAP though!
Well dang, I haven’t heard of any of these. Wait, I really liked Forbidden 😀 I hope you enjoy all of your new books 🙂
Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fabulous weekend 😀
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Oh! I am glad you liked Forbidden too! I have to write my review before I forget any of it, but I can’t post it until the blog tour, but I want people to read it because I really enjoyed it 🙂
Oh no! You forgot the ebooks from last week again 😉 That’s okay though because this collection is pretty sweet.
Yes, I have issues 😉 I honestly don’t even remember what the ebooks were anymore! I know Half Bad was one? Meh.
