Weekly Shenanigans

So this week, I decided to start reading City of Heavenly Fire. True story, I felt like it was taunting me from my bookcase. Like, daring me to read it. So I just want to do it, and move on. Reading a book probably shouldn’t be so hard, should it?

I finished The Giver (you know, only 20+ years late to that particular party) and plan to review soon! I also finished the last of the Four novellas, and plan to review that for next week too.

Weekly Recap:

What’s next:
My schedule is always incredibly tentative, but I’d like to update you all on the ARC situation, since I have finally heard from Amazon and the offenders, and as soon as I have all the info together, I promise a post. I also want to finish City of Heavenly Fire, and Falls the Shadow, and get some reviews up. Oh, and the August New Release Giveaway will be up on the 15th as always, so stay tuned for that!

Anything new with you this week? Any great shelf additions, new books read, news in general? I’d love to hear all about it!

    • I must say, I have a multitude of thoughts about The Giver. I have a lot to think about for this review. And I swear, I will have CoHF finished before 2015 arrives!

    • Thanks! I think this US paperback of Dangerous Girls is fairly new, and I agree, I absolutely adore it! The colors are so pretty (and they extend all the way to the front too!)

    • I did enjoy it, but it was much, much darker than I’d anticipated! I am definitely going to continue with the series, though from what I’ve read it isn’t all the same story? I don’t know, but I will keep reading and fill you in 🙂

  1. Great haul this week! I hope you love Dangerous Girls, that was one of my favourite reads of this year, it kept me reading right up until the end. I really want to read Torn Away, I think that book looks so good. I hope you enjoy all of your reads this week 🙂 Here’s my STS.

    • Thanks! I have heard so many good things about Dangerous Girls! It’s weird, it hadn’t been on my radar at all, but with Dangerous Boys coming out everyone is talking about it, so I had to see what it’s all about 🙂 Hope you have a great week!

  2. What a haul! Congrats. 🙂 I hope you like City of Heavenly Fire, I’m curious to know what you’ll think of it. I’m glad to hear that something was done about the ARC sale. I got approved for 3 books on NetGalley this week! I still feel like I’ve won something when they say I can read a book for free.

    • Yay for approvals! I still haven’t ever been approved on Netgalley (but, to be fair I’ve only asked once). I find Netgalley more intimidating than Edelweiss for some reason? I am not sure why! And I totally agree with you- I feel giddy when I get to read a book for free- like someone is trusting little old me with their baby!

And yes, I will totally update the ARC situation. You won’t believe it, but it happened TWO MORE TIMES! Last week! I was so speechless, and then SO mad. I sent out this litany of emails… oh, it was kind of epic (and I am usually way too afraid to get “mean”, but I just had to!)

  3. YAY for Falls the Shadow! I also have that one 😀 One of my bloggy friends LOVED Dangerous Girls! And while I didn’t *love* The Murder Complex, I liked enough to want to read the second book (whenever it will come out). That ending O_O I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

    Have a fabulous weekend!

    Check out my STS post!

    • Thanks! I am reading Falls the Shadow now, and I am really liking it! I have been hearing mixed things about The Murder Complex too, but I feel like it had been on my TBR for literally years, so I am excited to read it.

  4. Dangerous Girls is AWESOME. Trust me, it really will blow you brains at the end. I’m about to start Dangerous Boys. and eeeeep. It’d better be just as good. Although I’m not sure if my brain will be able to handle so much awesome. 😉 I really like the cover of Of Breakable Things for some reason. Like, I seriously want to read that book but I have no idea what it’s about. *shrugs* COVER LOVE.

    • I know, I don’t even buy books anymore without checking in to see that you’ve loved them 😉 I am seriously so excited to read Dangerous Girls. I keep hearing such good things, I can’t believe I didn’t even know about it until recently. Where was I? I don’t really know what Of Breakable Things is about either! I just know that I liked the sound of it once and added it to my TBR and Amazon list (which means I really want it), and the author seems super nice. Plus, yes, the cover is amazing!

    • Glad I’m not the only one! I seriously don’t understand how I missed it though! Especially since I seriously owned every other book Lois Lowry published! And thanks 🙂

  5. Haha, well I hope you do enjoy City of Heavenly Fire. Oooh, I’m actually reading Dangerous Girls right now and it’s awesome. =D I won The House of the Four Winds in a giveaway and I’m excited to receive it in the mail. The Murder Complex is a book I’ve been very intrigued by but not sure it’s my genre. Maybe I’ll get to it this year though. Have a great weekend Shannon! 🙂

    • I seriously think that every single person who’s read it has loved Dangerous Girls! I am so afraid that I will end up being a black sheep 😉 Hope you enjoy the giveaway win, and the rest of Dangerous Girls!

  6. Great haul this week, Shannon! I have an ARC of the Falls The Shadow also, and I can’t wait to check it out soon! And I’m so excited for Don’t Touch!! I hope you enjoy all your new goodies!

Thanks for stopping by my STS @ Addicted Readers! 🙂

  7. I haven’t read any of these books but most of mentioned are familiar. I should start Lowry’s acclaimed series soon I guess. I did enjoy his previous works very much.
Falls the Shadow looks really awesome *checking it out in Goodreads* have a happy read!

    My haul

    • Thanks! I definitely suggest giving The Giver a try. It was a very short, quick read, though quite heavy too. I was actually really surprised at how difficult a lot of the book was to read. But it was definitely good!

  8. Oh nice, a Rainbow Rowell book! Still haven’t read anything by her though. I’ve also heard amazing things about the Dangerous series by Abigail Haas. Have fun with all your books!

    • Ohh, I am so glad you loved Falls the Shadow! I am really enjoying it so far, but I get nervous 😉 And now I am going to have to check out Altered! It’s been on my TBR for ages, but it may need to be bumped up. I am so, so excited to read Dangerous Girls. In fact, as soon as I finish CoHF, I am reading it!

  9. City of Heavenly Fire was a surprisingly fast read! Cassandra Clare really knows how to grab your attention, and the way she introduces her next series makes you even more eager to finish. And DANGEROUS GIRLS. I love that book so much and I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it.

    My STS

    • I have to agree with you, it is going faster than I anticipated. I think I am just a little Shadowhuntered-out at this point 😉 I am pretty sure that Dangerous Girls is next on my list!

  10. I’ve heard good things about Dangerous Girls! I wasn’t really drawn to it by the title/cover, but the description and positive ratings/reviews have certainly gotten me more interested.

Also, I hope you liked The Giver? It’s such a classic, and it was dystopian YA long before there was a bandwagon for it XD

    • Yes, I agree with you- at first, I was apathetic about it, but the more I heard, the more I needed to read it!

I did like The Giver! Though it was far, FAR darker than I’d assumed it would be. I mean, it was definitely an amazing book, especially for its time.
