Stacking the Shelves and other Weekly Shenanigans (17)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. This week was another decent week for me! I actually scheduled a few posts in advance this week, which was pretty unheard of for me. I even scheduled one two full weeks in advance. Progress, people.

Now, I have to be sure I schedule my posts ahead of time for the coming week because my little guy is having surgery on Monday to repair his cleft palate and replace his ear tubes. So I won’t be around much next week, I’m afraid. But, I promise I will respond to all comments or messages as soon as possible, hopefully Sammy will be getting some sleep to heal!

Onto the books! Pictures link to Goodreads 🙂

Physical Books

I bought both from Amazon (no jeers, please, I am broke, and I like packages). They’d both been on my list for some time, but now they are mine, all mine! (Insert grabby, greedy paws here.)
E-Books
1. Eleanor and Park. Why haven’t I read this yet? I don’t know. Seriously, no good reason. Though, I am kind of pumped because I found it on sale. I love a sale, in case you missed that memo every single time I go insane over a sale.
2. Something Strange and Deadly.  Again, no idea why, again a sale. Plus, I have been hearing a ton of good things about the series in general, so I needed to jump on board.
3. As Red As Blood.  So, as always, when Cait at Notebook Sisters says I need to read a book says I need to read a book, I do it. Oh, and an FYI to anyone who is an Amazon Prime member (at least in the US, I don’t how/if it works elsewhere), this book is FREE for Prime members until August 1, as a First Reads book. So, you know, get on that! Oh- and as promised to Cait, me eating reindeer meatballs in Finland:
4. The Loners: Somewhere along the way, I ended up with an ARC of the third book. It was before I was requesting, and it was a “download” on Edelweiss. Since it looked familiar, I just grabbed it, not realizing it was the third. So obviously, I need the first! (Should I bother telling you it was another Kindle sale? No?)
For Review
Big thanks to HarperTeen and The FFBC for the chance to review this one! I have been eager to read it since, you know, looking at the cover (judge away, it’s pretty!).

Weekly Shenanigans
This week, I reviewed Looking for Alaska by John Green and (kind of?) Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo. I also discussed names and pseudonyms a bit, and I loved hearing the responses from you all!
That’s about it for my week! How was YOUR week? Get any new shelf additions? Anything fun going on? I’d love to hear about it!

  1. You got some great books this week. Eleanor & Park is amazing. I loved Something Strange and Deadly too. 🙂 Grasshopper Jungle looks so interesting! I’ve heard great things about it. The Jewel also looks really good. I hope you enjoy your new books!

    • Thanks! I am pretty excited about this week’s books because it seems like a lot of books that people have loved. It always makes me want to read even more when I have books that everyone raves about 🙂

  2. ‘Scuse me while I dance here because YOU LIKE MY RECOMMENDATIONS? THAT MAKES ME FEEL SO SPECIAL. *blushes* And ohhhh Searching for Sky is awesome too. And Eleanor And Park. Like this whole stack is just stuffed with awesome. I haven’t heard much about The Jewel though so I’m interested to know what you think. Cover love. That is all. x)

  3. Looks like a lovely haul. I’m really excited to read The Jewel soon. It has such a gorgeous cover. I hope all goes well with your little one! (P.S I buy from Amazon too. It’s just so much cheaper!)

    • Aw thank you so much!! And yes- Amazon is like, insanely cheaper. I couldn’t even afford to read if I bought from the chain stores around here (now, if we had indies, or something like that, I might reconsider, but I know authors who have just as much- stike that- MORE trouble with other chains than they do with Amazon).

  4. I totally understand being broke, but not being able to pass up on books. I buy them used so I can get more. Sounds like some good books! (Except the zombie one, they give me nightmares.)

    • I really wish we had any kind of used bookstore locally, it would be really great for so many reasons! (And I am with you on the zombies- plus I have heard that this one is particularly gory. I am scared!)

    • Thank you so much! I know, Grasshopper Jungle was so shiny, I almost didn’t get any picture at all. And also, the sides of the pages are a funky bright yellow, I kind of love it 🙂

    • I have to say, The Jewel has been REALLY good so far. The first few pages, I was nervous because it sounded a bit overdone, but now that I am getting into it, I am very intrigued!

    • Aw, that is wonderful, I am so glad you loved it! And honestly, if I hear great things about an author as a person, I am more likely to like the books, so this makes me even more excited to read it!

  5. Ooo, excellent haul, Shannon! I also have The Jewel, but I have not read it yet. I read Something Strange and Deadly, and really enjoyed it! Unfortunately for me, I didn’t really like the subsequent novels :/ I hope you enjoy all of your new books! Happy reading 🙂

    Have a fabulous weekend!

    Check out my STS post!

    • I have started The Jewel and am enjoying it (in fact, I will probably be off to read it in a few minutes). I am bummed to hear that the subsequent books didn’t work for you. Hopefully, I will fare better! Thanks, you have a great weekend too 🙂

    • Right?! I swear, I could spend a thousand dollars in a bookstore in oh, I don’t know, 10 minutes? Maybe less? We need ALL the money so we can read ALL the books! Grasshopper Jungle does sound strange, I think that is why I am attracted to it 😉

    • I think Amazon is mainly super cheap in the US. I know my in-laws live in Canada, and they don’t have the same experience. And I love that we all get books that Cait tells us to 😉 And thank you! Hope you have a great week.

  6. I’ll be thinking of you during your surgery! I hope everything goes smoothly and that you have an easy recovery. <3

I really enjoyed Searching for Sky when I read it a few weeks ago, and I hope you enjoy it too! 😀 Eleanor and Park has such a huge amount of hype, so I hope it lives up to it for you! And lucky you for getting an ARC of The Jewel! It has such an intriguing premise, so I hope it’s enjoyable!

Thanks for sharing & happy reading! <3

    • Thanks! Hopefully, he’ll be okay very soon. It’s scary, but I really appreciate the thoughts 🙂

I am so excited for Searching for Sky (another Cait recommendation, actually!). I am kind of worried about the hype about Eleanor and Park too, so I think my expectations may be lowered even, in an anti-hype situation 😉 Hope you have a great week!

  7. I’ve been seeing a lot of reviews for Searching for Sky, and it’s been positive so far, emotional even. I am looking forward to reading that one. And Eleanor & Park is such a cutesy read for me. I loved that book 🙂

  8. As read and Blood looks interesting. eleanor & Park is on my TBR list to hopefully get at some point. The Quarantine books (at least the first 2) were pretty good. Gruesome for YA at times, but good and twisted! Happy Reading!
