Top 10 Tuesday!

So Top Ten Tuesday is a feature over at The Broke and the Bookish. I have loved reading these on other blogs, but just never seemed to be able to get my act together long enough to do one. Well, the day has come: I am completing a to-do task!

This week’s list is:  Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read

This will be a bit challenging I do think. I will do my best to make it to ten, but I can’t make any promises!

1. Orson Scott Card. I can’t. I won’t. He could write a book so magical that it spews rainbows, and I still wouldn’t read it. Quite frankly, I cannot support an author whose views are so completely offensive to my sensibility. I can overlook a lot of things because an author has every right to his or her private life, but supporting such hate is something I am incapable of doing.

2. Stephen King. This is kind of surprising, because I do like the genre in general. But to be completely honest, most of his books look way too long and daunting.

3. Rainbow Rowell. Definitely on my TBR list, I just simply haven’t gotten around to it yet. Another goal, perhaps?

4. Ransom Riggs. A few friends have read the Miss Peregrine books, and they have had such opposing views. I am sure that in due time I will read them.

5. Jodi Picoult. It seems like absolutely everyone I know has read her books. I just haven’t had much of an interest in general.

6. Nicholas Sparks. Does seeing the movies count? No? Didn’t think so. I have a friend who used to read so much of his work that she could have bought stock in the publishing company. Again, just not really my cup of tea.

7. James Patterson. I am not even sure what his deal is, just that he advertises a lot on my television. And Amazon tells me he is ridiculously popular. But mostly I don’t understand why he is advertising books during trashy reality shows because I doubt that is his target audience.

8. George R. R. Martin. I am on the fence about whether I would enjoy this “Game of Thrones” business. It is kind of like how I felt about Harry Potter and the whatever of whatever. I didn’t think I’d like it, but peer pressure convinced me to try. Yeah, that didn’t work out. I assume this wouldn’t either, but I might try anyway.

9. Rick Riordan. Another that I may try some day, mostly because of the aforementioned peer pressure.

10. Margaret Atwood. I do plan on reading some of her stuff. Really. Again, the time thing. Priorities, people.

Note: This list would probably be a lot longer if not for both peer pressure and mandatory high school and college reading.

  1. I’ve read at least one book by most of these authors. I’ve not read Martin, Rowell, or Atwood, but I have Atwood on my list. I’ll have to check my own list to see who I’ve missed!
