Welcome to court! My very own Glittering Court, that is! This is the most fun I have ever had with a blog post maybe ever. Because pretty dresses! It’s like playing Barbie with your favorite fictional characters- at least, that’s how I decided to create my court! (Also, this was my first foray into Polyvore, which is SO addicting!) I will give you the book info, because you need it to really understand why I chose who I chose for my court!

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead
Series: The Glittering Court #1
Published by Razorbill on March 28th 2017
Pages: 432
Format:Paperback

Big and sweeping, spanning from the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training, and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.

When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and then when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.

But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands…

So. You see that while my court has to look lovely, they also have to be some badass ladies who can and will be my accomplices on the frontier!

Glittering Court- Katniss

Um, this one is kind of a no-brainer, right? Katniss hunts, she can live in the wilderness, and she has no qualms about killing the careers. We’re golden! Also, I am letting her wear green because 1) It’s her favorite color, 2) It’s her birthstone, 3) She likes the woods and the meadow and it just makes sense okay? Enough with “The Girl on Fire”.

GC-Vika

Vika is one of my newest favorites- and her Russian influence made her one of my favorites to dress! Plus she can do magical things, and she is pretty level headed. I like our chances.

Glittering Court- Celaena

Obviously we want Celaena. And she’s a girl who loves to dress up, so I feel like she will enjoy the glam and glitter. But, she is also a badass, so she has to have her sword, in case anyone needs to be assassinated, pronto.

GCOctavia

I am not going into ANY new territory without the absolute baddest chick out there. This girl is a warrior princess through and through. And so, she’s on my team. I can count on Octavia to not only kick ass, but diffuse any troublesome situation with class and dignity. Plus, she’s a charmer too.

gctwatd

Shazi is smart- who else could elude an automatic death sentence? She’s wise, and clever, and loyal. Plus, she tells a hell of a story, which will be a fabulous distraction for these gentlemen of the New World!

CG- Vhalla

Vhalla is my girl. A Windwalker in a world that is missing its Windwalkers, a ordinary girl from the library turned into a freaking savior, yet she somehow manages to be a totally realistic character. I think we should be roommates.

GCJayden

Jayden, where do I begin? First, she’s a strong woman in a time when women have like, zero rights. So she will be helpful here for sure. Second, she knows how to dance, which I think will be another plus to make these men think we give a hoot about marrying them.Plus she’s super smart, AND loves her family fiercly. Win.

Oh, and we need a place to stay, right!

This should do the trick!! Does it look familiar? It should…..

Peeta

And before you go, I mentioned this before, but there is a fabulous pre-order giveaway happening- but you do not have much longer to enter since the book comes out in a little over a week! Enter right here!

Also, if you couldn’t tell, I REALLY enjoyed this book! It actually got me out of a pretty serious slump, and I cannot wait to tell you guys all about it- a week from today! (Look at me, I actually “scheduled” something!)

So, who would you want on your court? And whose look is your favorite?

  1. All the dresses here look gorgeous, Shannon! Where did you find them all?? :O
And thanks for reminding me about the release of The Glittering Court! I love Richelle Mead’s VA and Bloodlines books, but found Soundless eh, so I’m really looking forward to reading The Glittering Court and seeing how I like it! 😀

    • Aw thank you! I found them on Polyvore, where I spent WAYYYY too much time looking for them- it was addicting! Because pretty dresses are pretty!

So I LOOOOOVED this book! And I have heard from others who did not love Soundless that this one was MUCH more like her usual work. So that is good news! I hope you love it!!

  2. Shannon! What a fabulous post — in every sense of the word. These dresses are GORGEOUS and it’s such an original way of showing off a book. I can tell you’ve had fun with it, haha! Can.. can *I* be in your glitter court? I mean, I’m no badass like Katniss or Octavia, but I’d really like a pretty dress.

  3. Oh oh I really want to read this now!! I hadn’t really heard anything about it…but if you loved it and it got you out of a slump then SIGN ME UP. *dashes over to goodreads* Also this post was SO MUCH PRETTY I LOVED IT. And I highly approve of Katniss’ dress and also Shazi’s. <3 Yusssss. I think Celeana might look like a pink fluffy cupcake in that? But it'd just make for a more interesting evening when she whipped out the sword out of that barbie dress, so…I APPROVE.

    • YESS see, that is the point, Celaena wants to play cupcake! She loves being girly AND having a place to hide her sword! It’s practical, really!

I really hope you love the book if you read it! I definitely did, and also, I loved playing with pretty dresses 😀

  4. Ooh lots of shiny! I love how glamorous all the looks are. You did a great job! My favorite look is Octavia’s! So how does one snag an invite to this court? 😉
    Lovely post, Shannon!

  5. This is indeed a fantastic post!!! SO CUTE! almost as cute as your Polyvore pic with your little girl. 🙂
I love them ALL. It is hard to say which one is my favorite! I guess Vhalla’s is WAY too gorgeous to be ignored 🙂
Glad to hear The Glittering Court got you out of that serious slump! I’ll have to check it out 🙂

    • AWW thank you, you are too sweet 😀 I am so excited that everyone is loving Vhalla’s! It’s the one that I really needed to get right the most, just because I love her and wanted to do her justice!

I hope you do love it if you check it out!

  6. This is such a cool post idea 😀 It was fun browsing through the pictures of all those gorgeous dresses! The one for Shazi is my fav <3 Your court sounds like a very badass one. And a glamorous one too! Celeana would feel right at home ^^

  7. Ahhhh!! Your first Polyvore activity was a major success!! Isn’t it SO FUN doing these!?!?! I totally love them!!!! You did such great pairings too. Awesome job, Shannon! I’m super excited to read this. I don’t normally read a lot of books like this, so I’m a bit nervous… but at the same time, totally excited!! Hoping to fit it in very soon! 🙂

    • Thank you, thank you! It is TOO fun doing this- I could seriously spend all day playing with fancy dresses bwhahah. I feel like this will be more your kind of book than you think it is. It’s not really high fantasy at all- more like, almost historical fiction? I hope you love it!

  8. Loved this post <33 Hahah girl, I totally understand how polyvore is addicting. It honestly was my little hideaway before blogging became a thing (larissa-xo hahahaha stalk me) and when I had more time I'd honestly spend hours on sets and things. I've heard some mixed things on The Glittering Court so I'm very eager to check out your review in a week from now [;

Though I do love all of the sets you've created I gotta say my favorites are Shazi's and Vhalla's. I feel Shazi's dress really just fits her character and her culture beautifully, as well as being just a gorgeous dress. As for Vhalla's if I could buy that dress right now I so totally would. Like I'm in utter dress love with hers haha <33

Loved this post girl! And so glad you managed to have so much fun with it (:

    • Aw thank you my dear! I SHALL stalk you, yay! I feel like- if you are looking for high fantasy, this is not it. If you want friendship and romance and adventure in a quasi-alternate historical fiction, then YES this is for you haha. I loved it, but I am a sucker for those things 😀

Aw THANK YOU! I am about to send this to Elise- I wanted to see what she thought of Vhalla, but I was scared- enough of you love her look that I might as well 🙂

  9. I love this post!! Those dresses are gorgeous! I think my favorite is between Octavia’s and Celaena’s! I think you chose some badass ladies for your court and you also managed to add a few more books to my TBR at the same time 😉

  10. Oh, those are some gorgeous outfits. I love Vhalla’s because it has the cape thingy and when in doubt about the dresscode always wear a cape. Octavia’s is stunning as well, and I think Katniss’s dress really fits her. I’ll have to check out all of these guys, because they sound pretty cool and if you’d choose them for your court they must be pretty awesome. 😀 I’ve read A LOT of books by Richelle Mead (I think all of them except for Soundless because that didn’t sound like my cup of tea). I just finished the Bloodlines series and I was kind of underwhelmed and everything is starting to feel very similar (plus she’s been kinda cheeky on social media about how much everyone is going to love the new series, so my inner rebel feels like I won’t haha). I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Glittering Court, because I’m not sure whether I want to pick it up yet!

  11. I’ve been wanting your thoughts on this one but this is ALMOST as good! I love seeing what you put together and the HG emphasis (as always)!! The place is perfect (*insert thumbs up emoji*). I think my favorite outfit is Octavia’s — so perfect for the character! ♥ this, Shannon!!

  12. I love all your choices! Of course Katniss and Celena, but I don’t know anyone else you choose. I want to add Alina (Shadow and Bone), just in case things gets dark. Also, Cinder, just in case something breaks. OH and Inej (Six of Crows), you never know when a ninja type will come in handy. Great post!

  13. I absolutely love these looks and those killer ball gowns! I absolutely LOVE Shahrzad’s look and that blue theme with the gold influence is amazing. Nika’s look as well is so decadent! Wonderful post Shannon, I can’t wait to read the book.

  14. Thanks for this review! I’ve had it on my TBR list since I first heard about it, but you know, that doesn’t always mean I should. Clearly, you had fun with these and also OMG BEAUTIFUL OUTFITS. That Katniss one is so spot-on. Can we say fleek? I think we can say fleek.
