Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015

This post is going to be about authors that basically everyone had known and read and loved except for me. It could also be titled “Books Holly Made me Read”. But, uh, this stupid song was stuck in my head, and the quote applied, and frankly, misery loves company so won’t you join me in non-stop Adele singing?

Right. SO, these authors are authors you have all probably read five years ago, but to me, they are new. Also, I enjoyed them and will be reading more from them. Lots more. And I have listed the books I consumed this year by them.

Oh, and of course, none of these pictures are mine, even though following authors around, then taking very lovely professional photographs of them sounds like a hoot. They came from Goodreads or author websites.

And there we have it! Have you read stuff by these lovely people? If not, you probably should. Oh, and about the Adele song stuck in your head?

  1. Marissa Meyer and Sarah J. Maas are also new to me this year… I’ve only read Throne of Glass though but I’m hoping to go through her books before the year ends. and I still need to read books by Suzanne Young and Rae Carson!! I really want Walk on Earth A Stranger!!

  2. I’m laughing because Hello has been stuck in my head ever since it came out, and I’m so glad it isn’t just me!

But don’t worry, I haven’t read most of these authors either. I’ve tried Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series last year, but I think I am the only person (like ever) to dislike them. MAGGIE STIEFVATER IS QUEEN! Even if I’ve only read her Wolves of Mercy Falls series. I really want to read Rae Caron’s new book!

  3. I, um, have only read books by three of these authors and I didn’t like Throne of Glass much and I thiiiink I liked Shiver okay when I read it as a teenager, but not enough to continue with the series. I really liked A Darker Shade of Magic and Vicious by Victoria Schwab though! And that song… well, I’ll admit the quote is funny, but now I’ll have to sing it in my head all day, which isn’t good because there’s really not much else to focus on during work. HMPH.

  4. Gah Adele. I love her and will be singing Hello in my grave. Forever stuck in my head. ANYWAY. Marissa Meyer and Sarah J Maas made my list this week too. LOVE them now. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read them. Megan Shapherd is one I still want to read. One day. Great list!

  5. There are quite a few of these that would have made my list had I remembered to get it ready. 🙂
Marissa Meyer, Sarah J Maas, Mary E Pearson, Maggie Stiefvater.
    Great list. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I have been wanting to read the Raven Boys forever! I haven’t read anything by Maggie Stiefvater but everyone who has raves about her books!
I also have yet to read a Sarah J Maas book…I think I might be the only person left of the planet who hasn’t!

  7. I’ll take the Adele song being stuck in my head after having the soundtrack of Frozen screaming in my brain for about a year. I haven’t read any of these authors *sob* but I really really want too. Marissa Meyer, Maggie Stiefvater and Sarah J. Maas all look awesome and Hotel Ruby definitely caught my eye. Great list!

  8. Haha! That Adele song is so relevant to your topic! 😀
You’ve got to read Suzanne Young’s other dystopia series. It’s so much better than Hotel Ruby, in my opinion!
And I discovered Kristoff too! He seems like a really funny guy! And Kristen Simmons! I love her books too. Her new book sounds really interesting too.

  9. So, first off, I can NOT believe you are just now getting to Maggie Stiefvater! She is one of my most favorite authors EVER! But yay for you finally find her and hopefully loving her. Like you I just got to Suzanne Young, Marissa Meyer, Megan Shepherd, and Sarah J. Maas this year. But I have fallen in love with all of them! The one author that I just started this year and have totally become obsessed with, that everyone else seems to know and love already, is Jennifer L. Armentrout. Great post!

  10. ADELE !! ♥

Hell YES Schwab made my list too this week!! And I have SO.MUCH.LOVE for Meyer, Stiefvater and MAAS!! Gah! I still need to read Carson, Kristoff and Kaufman though but I own both Walk the Earth a Stranger AND Illuminae so I WILL do so soon XD Awesome list here^^

  11. I’ve been wanting to try those MAry Pearson books, probably for the eye- catching covers. And I may read some Sarah Maas this year since they seem so popular…

  12. Amie + Jay made my list because of Illuminae as well! I literally just want to read everything by them (Jay has a new series coming out with assassins and revenge–basically the best thing ever)! I really need to get to Rae Carson next year because Girl of Fire and Thorns and Walk on Earth a Stranger both sound amazing!

  13. You do realise I’ve not got Hello stuck in my head and I can’t seem to get it out.

There are so many great authors on this list and a lot of them are new to me as well. I have no shame in admitting that my summer was basically spent binge reading all of V. E. Schwab’s books and 2016 looks like another great year with all of her new releases coming out. I’ve still not mustered the courage to pick up Sarah J. Maas’ books and the fandom shipping wars have slightly put me off for the time. I will eventually get round to reading the books but I’m in no rush.

  14. I read Sarah J. Maas this year as well and i fell in love with her writing. And i read Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooners Starbound series (the first two books anyways) and loved the writing there so i really want to check out the book you are talking about to see if all her stuff is as fantastic!
    Wonderful list 🙂

  15. Read The Program series by Suzanne Young. DO IT. I still remember your review for The Cage because I was so excited to find someone who loved it as much as I did. Although I did read The Madman’s Daughter by her and didn’t like it quite as much. The Glass Arrow has been on my radar for SO LONG. I will get to it soon (hopefully).

  16. AHH I’M SO GLAD THIS LIST EXISTS. I’m also like 10000% pleased Maggie Stiefvater is on there. *happy sigh* YOU HAVE DONE WELL, MY FRIEND. I only discovered Rae Carson and VE Schawb this year too. *hi fives* OH. And I think I only read Jay Kristoff this year too. 0_0 Except I read Stormdancer (I think that’s what it’s called??) the steampunky, Japanese book, and it kinda went over my head. SO YEAH. XD I did love Illuminae an extraordinary amount though. 😀

  17. Four of those authors are on my list. I came late to the Sarah J Maas and Marissa Meyer parties. I’m glad I finally came! Have you not read Shiver yet (Maggie Stiefvater)? Oh, my! So good! You should also read Amie Kaufman’s books with Meagan Spooner. They are fantastic! I really want to read Mary E Pearson’s books, I’ve heard such good things about them. Awesome list of authors!

  18. AHH. SO MANY FABULOUS AUTHORS HERE SHANNON! I absolutely adore Marissa Meyer and Sarah J Maas – they are absolutely incredible and the Lunar Chronicles and Throne of Glass are some of my favorite series. And Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman are just an incredible team. I’m anxious to see where they take the next book in the Illuminae series – I’m sure it’s going to blow me out of the water. Thanks for sharing Shannon and, as always, fabulous post + choices! ♥

  19. Sam

I, too, discovered Rae Carson and Sarah J Maas this year. My daughter had been nagging me to read their books forever, and now that I did, I am obsessed! Great list

  20. I CANNOT seem to get into The Raven Boys for some reason, I’ve been reading it on ebook, is that why? I think I get through books much better when it’s paper, because my eyes get tired! I also CANNOT believe you haven’t read Sarah J. Mass OR Marissa Meyer! Oh well. I need to read Victoria’s Schwab’s books because I have heard nothing but good things about them!
