The Books I May or May Not Read This Summer

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is: Top Ten Books On My TBR For Summer 2015

Honestly, I was going to skip this one because I kind of just posted about books I am looking forward to but… it’s kind of fun to watch myself fail at my TBR season after season 😉  In fact, let’s recap spring, shall we?

Of the 10 books on my non-review list: 1 Read. Well, that is just sad.

Of the 12 review books: 11 Read. Well, isn’t that just the opposite? That’s a job well done.

Of the 10 Upcoming Releases: 7 Read. Which seems good, until I tell you that a few of them turned into review books…

Let’s hope for something slightly better, at least in the “On my shelf” list this summer!

Get Out of My Shelf… and Into My Hands.

These books have been around long enough, and it is time they are enjoyed! The odds aren’t exactly in my favor, but here’s hoping!

tbr1

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor– I know guys… I know.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown– Pretty sure this one has been on every TBR I’ve done in the past year. Chances? Still low.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer– It’ll happen, because I do not want Winter spoiled.

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner– See above, sub in This Fractured Light

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas– Um, Queen of Shadows is coming out soon, but not soon enough. Since I am really into Crown of Midnight as I type, this will likely happen sooner than later.

We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach– If I don’t read this by the end of the summer, someone hit me with it, okay? Thanks.

Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini– This is extra important because I possess Firewalker, which is super pretty.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews– The reason is threefold: One, I have had it since two Christmases ago. Two, Jesse Andrews in person was freaking hilarious. And three, there’s a movie!!

Winterkill by Kate A. Boorman– Because there is another book that I didn’t know about! Bring on Darkthaw!

Mosquitoland by David Arnold– Please see We All Looked Up for further instructions.

  1. Dang that’s an expansive list. A great one which I’m bookmarking because there’s some titles here I need to remember. Love the Get Out of My Shelf Into My Hands lead in. Cute! ~Beth @ Perpetual New Girl

  2. Haha! I see you have way more than ten (as do I). I always fail miserably at sticking to my seasonal tbr list. I like to say that I try, but I don’t think I do, at least not for very long. I didn’t even include the review books I want to read on my list.Anyway, you should really read These Broken Stars, it’s fantastic. Scarlet is on my tbr. I just finished Cinder and I’m really hoping to be caught up in time for Winter.Daughter of Smoke and Bone is beyond fabulous. I do admit that I haven’t read the sequels, though. Not because I don’t want to! I just haven’t gotten around to them. I loved Trial By Fire! Me & Earl was almost on my list, and I probably will read it soon before I see the movie. I definitely want to read Alive! Wow, lots of awesome books here, good luck!

    • Well, at least you kept it in the teens! Mine is 30 books long! Ridiculous. Though I do read about 30 books a season… the likelihood that it will be THESE 30 is slim to none. Yay I am glad you enjoyed some of these books! I need to get caught up, especially with Scarlet and TBS because the last books will be out SOON! No spoilers needed 😉 And thanks for the luck, I am going to need it!

  3. That’s not ten … Looks like the TBR got a little out of hand, as always. 😀 So many of these are also on my TBR, although not necessarily for summer — DoSaB, Lunar Chronicles, Daughter of Deep Silence, etc. But some of these I’m definitely adding a bunch more: We All Looked Up, Trial by Fire, A History of Glitter and Blood, Legacy of Kings. *shudders a little at the prospect of this really long TBR* I actually just picked based on cover here, which is pretty shallow but unfortunately how I work. Huh, I should write a blog post about judging books based on covers.

    • Bwahah true story, I fail, as usual 😉 I cannot ever keep a TBR at 10. Or in this case 20. It’s an even 30, and I am not even sorry 😀

OOOH please write that post about covers! I love covers and will definitely enjoy such a post!! I agree, sometimes the covers get me too. Actually, a lot of the time. Sad, but true!

  4. This list has me making grabby hands! So many fantastic books! I’ve only read a few of these and a couple others made my own list. 🙂 I wasn’t actually brave enough to go back and check my Spring TBR List to see how well – er, poorly, let’s be honest – I did. Best not to think about all the other books I still have to read. 😉 Enjoy your summer reading!

  5. Argh, so many pretty books waiting to be explored. I can’t wait to read Paperweight and The Proof of Forever. I hope you get to make a dent in your TBR pile.

  6. I am so feeling your sorrows, there are so many awesome new releases I’m trying to get through some of those, whilst reading my review books and at the same time trying to slot something in there for one that’s in my TBR only and not for review.

    Here’s my TTT

    Have a great week!

  7. You have so many great books on your list. Red Rising has been on my TBR for a while. When will I get to it? Who knows? I am reading the ARC for Alive right now. Wow, it is really, really good. I am having a hard time putting it down. I started it yesterday and I will finish it today for sure. I have a crazy case of jet lag and I am so tired . . . but I must finish this book. I preordered Skyscraping so I do have it. I need to read that one soon.

    • OOOH is it!?!? I am SO EXCITED to hear this, I am starting it tonight!! And I think Red Rising has been on mine for about a year and a half now. It’s kind of a running joke at this point- I all but guarantee it’ll be on my fall list too! I really want Skyscraping, SO badly. It was my WoW way back when I did those! But… money 😉

  8. WHyyyyy have you not read Daughter of Smoke and Bone yet?! COME NOW. THAT IS LIKE A YA MUST-READ. Although I actually *whispers* didn’t like the second two books. Like really didn’t like. I just didn’t GET them. Meh. I’m very frustrated at myself for that, so I pretend like I haven’t read them and am therefore innocent. (Plus all the Laini Taylor fans will eventually track me down and kill me.)

OH YES, read Everything Everything because I need to know what someone else thinks of that confusing book. XD

I hopefully am reading Paperweight soon! I’M EXCITED! *dances*

    • I know, I know. And wait- you did not like them!? Oh no. This is scary. Everyone like, swoons and faints over them. What if I don’t like them either!??! Oh, maybe I shouldn’t read them then 😉

AH yes, I must read Everything Everything! I know you did not like it, but I heard such good things otherwise. Perhaps we will black sheep together 😀 And OHH good, I hope you like it, you must fill me in on how it is!

  9. You should definitely change your chances of reading Red Rising this time around. In fact, you should read it NOW. I didn’t love Scarlet as much as everyone else but I really loved Cress. Now I am so ready for Winter (okay, maybe I still need to read Fairest, but I’ll surely come around that later).

I’m really, really, REALLY looking forward to The Accident Season, Legacy of Kings, The Uninvited, and Alive. I’ve never heard of The Girl at the Center of the World but it sounds interesting. I’m keeping my eyes out for that one. Awesome list! Hope you’ll be able to get around everything! 🙂

    • AHH I know, I know! BUT everyone says waiting for Morning Star is awful, so perhaps I should wait to binge them? The Girl at the Center of the World is a sequel to The Islands at the End of the World, which was REALLY good and very unique! And I feel like everyone has a different Lunar Chronicles favorite! I am hoping mine is yet to come 😀

  10. Zaira F

Ohmy gosh so many great books!!! I haven’t read a lot of books on this list, but I really want to. For this summer, I want to read More Happy Than Not!

  11. Gah so many books! Me and Earl and the Dying Girl I think I am getting to soon. Mosquitoland just popped back up on my radar and I really think I want to get to. I have Everything Everything and What You Left Behind and can’t wait to read them both – Enjoy whatever ones you get to!!

  12. Some of those I need to read myself absolutely – especially among those “get out of the shelf !” Well, what can I say but enjoy and bring us back many pretty reviews ^^

    • YAY good, I need to read it! Especially because I almost accidentally got it spoiled by someone’s VERY spoilery review (GR to that random Goodreads user!) And I am so excited for TBS too, even if just to stare at the cover 😉

  13. So many awesome choices in here that it’s hard to single any out, but… You HAVE to read ‘Daughter of Smoke and Bone’ because it is gorgeous. ‘The Last Leaves Falling’ because it is beautiful and will break your heart. And ‘The Accident Season’ because I just read it and am so in love with it right now.

  14. I need to read HoF so soon! So many books to read this summer! I really want to read Daughter of Deep Silence as well:D I need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bones as well. Great list:)

  15. SO many books! I really want to read Red Rising the most out of all of these, I hear non stop great things about it 😀 Hope you get to read some of these 🙂 Here’s my TTT if you would like to check it out 🙂 Have a great day! 🙂

    • I agree, I hear a LOT of great things! I actually started it once, read about 10% and gave up BUT everyone says it gets so much better and that it starts slow, so I am giving it another chance for sure! Hope you enjoy it too 😀

  16. I’m obsessed with your new theme! Looks so, so good. The colors are perfect. You can tell I’d like them by my blog’s bright orange and pink theme 😉

ALSO I read All We Have Is Now and really enjoyed it! I thought it was pretty unique, as far as “end of the world is coming” books go.

    • Awww thank you SO much!! I love your bright colors too- actually, that was kind of what I told Hazel- something fresh looking but bright, so it worked well! And GAHHH I want All We Have is NOw SO, so badly. I am SO glad that it was good though, that makes me extra excited!

  17. Awesome picks! I’ve been meaning to read These Broken Stars for ages. Did you see the cover for the third book? It’s even better than the other two, wow!

PS: I’m that girl for the Amy Ewing line on Wed, with the awkward author signing story (about not having to buy the book). Oops.

    • The cover is really pretty for the third! I still think the first is the best, because I LOVE blues and greens, but the third is a very close second!

HAHAH I remember that! I KNEW you looked familiar when I went to visit your blog! (I am so terrible with putting names with faces, but as soon as you told me that, YEP I remember!)

  18. I WILL TOTALLY HIT YOU ON THE HEAD IF YOU DON’T READ MOSQUITOLAND. I am going to read We All Looked Up as well. ALSO WHAT THE HECK. The first four books on your list you MUST MUST MUST READ

  19. I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU HAVEN’T READ RED RISING YET!!! Girl, I don’t want to say this, but I must: WHYYYYY?! Haha. I really liked that book and it made me feel SUPERB FEELINGS and I can’t wait to see your flailing tweets about it. ALSO THESE BROKEN STARSSSS Once you meet Tarver you’ll never go back :3

    • I know, I know. Here’s why: I started it, when it first came out actually. And I was a little bored, so I stopped. BUT then everyone said it starts off a little slow and I HAVE to try again, so I shall. But you know… time. And I NEED to read TBS, I have heard such amazing things AND it is so pretty!

  20. Heir of Fire, woohoo!! I heae Red Rising is really good too…Mosquitoland sounds wonderful, I can’t wait to read your thoughts. Ahhh Heart of Betrayal was SPECTACULAR. I hear wonderful things about Everything, Everything too. Nice picks! GOOD LUCK <3 Lovely blog design too 😀

  21. Girl – you absolutely need to read These Broken Stars (OTP!!!!) and Scarlet (OTP!!!!). They are fabulous. Everything, Everything was amazing. I’m excited for The One Thing, too. I’m reading Vengeance Road right now and it’s great so far!
    SO MANY BOOKS!

  22. I’m not going to push you to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone anymore since I wasn’t a *big* fan, but I’m curious to see what you think of it! BUT READ SCARLET ASAPPPPP. You’re finally going to meet Scarlet and Wolf there–basically my favorite ship of the series (so far). These Broken Stars too (but I haven’t read the second yet). I’m so curious on your thoughts on A History of Glitter and Blood as well–I personally loved it, but everyone else seems to hate it… I didn’t love Daughter of Deep Silence, so… AHH WHAT YOU LEFT BEHIND WAS SO BRILLIANT!!

I will DEFINITELY read my review copies of Never Always Sometimes, Everything Everything, Vengeance Road and Legacy of Kings when I can. 🙂 I *must* purchase More Happy Than Not the second our bookstore gets it!

    • Oooooh I am excited now!! And I noticed that you liked A History of Glitter and Blood, and I also noticed that everyone else hates it haha. I am actually going to be reading it quite soon, so we will see how I fall into the lineup 😀

I want What You Left Behind SO desperately! WHY did the reject me on NG?! Just… why? I am good people! I always review my books! SADNESS.

  23. Scarlet is amazing, I liked it but not as much a the first or third one! I started Daughter of Smoke & Bone but didn’t finish is; it was due back and just haven’t gotten but going too. These Broken Stars is one I’ve been waiting to read sadly haven’t. Proof of Forever sounds like it will be good, can not wait for that one! You’ve put together an amazing list! Here’s mine if you would like to see it http://wonderstruck-kcks.blogspot.com/2015/06/top-ten-books-on-my-tbr-for-summer-2015.html?showComment=1434836812764#c5253605371857968703

  24. Everything, Everything was a really good book – I honestly liked it a lot 🙂 Winterskill is on my list as well. More Happy Than Not and Daughter of Deep Silence were amazing books as well – happy reading!

  25. You have quite the exciting summer to read list! My summer holiday hasn’t even started yet DD: But I have some great books lined up as well, so I can’t wait to break into those ones. I can’t wait for you to read Scarlet – as always when it comes to the Lunar Chronicles, a brilliant book although the beginning might be hard to get into. I also really liked We All Looked Up, but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
