This Week At Midnight (60)

TWAM

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It gives us a chance to share with readers what we bought, borrowed, swapped, won or got for review each week. I also decided that since I do a weekly recap, it really is just good sense to link up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewerbecause that is such a fun link up as well!

The Books: For Review

No physical books this week, not a one! This makes Shannon sad, but her bank account happy. Plus, I must remember that I will see all the books in about two weeks. Plus I have 3 pre-orders coming next week, so YAY!

Now. Nori, my dear, I have failed you. I didn’t just sort of fail you, I basically did the opposite of all the things you have ever told me to do. It’s like an overeater gorging themselves at a buffet. An alcoholic doing 20 shots of tequila at a bar. I didn’t just fall off the wagon, I fell hard. So I guess I won’t be getting student of the month :/

Weekly Shenanigans

I read books! Three books, as usual, even though I was certain I’d get to four. These are the three:

Well, this was a banner reading week, I must say. Immaculate was really good, and posed so many questions and made me think. Then, Made You Up blew me away, and then I finished An Ember in the Ashes and well…. as you can imagine, things got pretty epic. Sequel? PLEASE?

  1. We are celebrating Mother’s Day tomorrow because our friends (who lost their daughter this year) needed to hang out with people who understand why Mother’s Day is going to suck. We have epic plans to make it to the other side of the day. Not really fun plans, but necessary.

    • Aw, I am so very sorry about your friends’ loss. I don’t even want to imagine, that must be awful beyond words. They’ll be in my thoughts for sure. I hope you at least got some nice time in with your kids, they’re pretty lucky to be able to see you show such an awesome and unselfish example of real friendship <3

  2. Oh, wow! You did have an epic week! Yay, for HarperCollins! I’m so excited for Ice Like Fire. You got a lot of reading done this week, too. I was only semi-productive this week. Hopefully next week will be better. I must focus! Have a great weekend!

  3. NO PHYSICAL BOOKS, GASP. Tooons of pretty ebooks though, so I’m reassured that aliens have not taken over your body yet. (Why yet? Do I believe they WILL? I don’t even understand my brain.)

You shall forever read exactly three books every week haha. (Which is still plenty in my opinion!) I am looonging for reading time, because between uni, work and looking for a new home I’m sadly busy lately, BUT I discovered that audiobooks are actually quite fabulous – I just needed to figure out WHEN to listen to them, so it’s all good. Meeting up with the fam for Mother’s Day tomorrow (I should probably get a present beforehand, right?). I can’t believe my Bambi post made it into the link collection hahaha. Enjoy your day! 🙂

    • Haahah they might have already taken over, we just don’t know!

I loved the Bambi post, because it is TRUE. That movie messed with my mind in a lot of ways. I do NOT recommend it. And yes, buy the woman a gift. I am the mom without a gift, and it isn’t fun 😛

  4. Yay for a wonderful week of books! 🙂 I’m glad you got to read so much! I hope you enjoy all of your new additions and that you have a brilliant weekend!

  5. Awesome haul of books this week. I see quite a few that look interesting. Yay for ICE LIKE FIRE. I also got Witch Hunter as well.

  6. Wow you got quite a haul and you kept yourself very busy. I haven’t even read Snow like Ash yet. I know no excuses but my tbr is getting quite high so. I hope you enjoy your new reads.

Wow nice haul. I think you put up your comics is totally wicked and I truly like your style. I have the Spider Gwen #4 as well. I also have The Bone Palace too. Well thanks for sharing.

  7. Just stopping by to thank you for featuring the SUMMER OF SERIES challenge that Danielle and I are hosting for the summer! I hope you join us!

  8. Great haul this week! I’ve heard good things about Everything Everything already. It sounds really good so I will be looking forward to your review, definitely. I’m going to have to go check out your gif review of the Fire & Flood series because I’ve been wanting to read them! Have a good week. 🙂

  9. Oh, I eyed Harper Collins’ Edelweiss offerings long and hard before ultimately deciding not to download any of them. Crazy, right? I’m trying to exercise self restraint. But that said, if I start seeing great reviews, I’ll definitely go see if they’re still available. 🙂 I did get Everything Everything this week and I’m excited for that one! I hope you enjoy all your new reads!

    My StS!

    • Whoa, I am impressed. You don’t even want to KNOW how bad it would be if I had free reign. I would have downloaded so many of them! There’s a couple I still might request if I see good reviews, like you said. Thanks so much, I hope you enjoy yours too 😀

  10. Bahaha. I find it hilarious how you always seem to be disappointing Nori, Shannon. xD But I get why you had to do it–those are some gorgeous titles! I also got a couple of titles from Harper, but I limited myself to the ones I REALLY wanted to read. Ice Like Fire and A Madness so Discreet included. 🙂 I also got Everything, Everything and am so excited to read it. I didn’t love The Witch Hunter myself, though. :/ So glad you loved Immaculate–it’s on my wishlist. AND Made You Up was pretty glorious! <3

    • Right? Nori must really hate me, except for like, one week where i didn’t get any books. I fail her regularly, I have to be the worst student she’s ever had 😉 Aw crap, I have been hearing some not so great stuff about The Witch Hunter actually, which makes me a bit mad at myself that I just grabbed it instead of looking up reviews. I am also impressed with your self control. Nice job 😀

  11. I claimed “favourite daughter” position at my house because, technically I gave my mum a present FIRST. Sure I was up at 6:30am and my dog jumped all over her bed, but, um, still DEFINITELY the favourite daughter. *quietly shoves other 4 sisters out the way* ;-))

AHHHH AN EMBE RIN THE ASHES!! I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT. I WANT THAT ONE AN ASTRONOMICAL AMOUNT. I mean, ya know, I could go buy it. But I’m squinting at my library in hopes that they get it first. hehe. I’m super curious to know what you think of Everything. It’s, um, well. I thought it was ridiculous, but WHO KNOWs?! maybe I was in a bad reading mood that day. xD

    • Oooh you win! Although um, anyone at my house waking me up at 6:30 probably is going to the back of the favorites line, just saying 😉

Your library should really give you priority. I mean, don’t they know that we all want to know if you like it? Because WE DO. (I do, anyway. Hear me, Australian Library System?) I do recall your dislike for Everything Everything. I am still holding out hope but my expectations HAVE been lowered. I often end up having a soft spot for ridiculous things too, so who knows?

  12. Ice Like Fire is up?! How did I miss it? I have been so eager for this so I must go see it if is still available to request. Edgewater also looks interesting. I hope you enjoy all these. Happy Reading!
    Here are my newest additions.

  13. Your book haul looks amazing Shannon! A Madness so Discreet sounds awesome though, I look foreward to reading some of your reviews 🙂

  14. Very awesome haul! SO excited for Madness So Discreet! And very happy to hear that you loved Made You Up as much as I did! 😀 It definitely blew me away, too!

  15. Nice haul you got this week. I’ve seen A Madness so Discreet on a few other blogs as well this week but never heard of it before. That cover is a bit weird and creepy. The Ice Like Fire cover is so pretty! I spent mother’s day visiting my boyfriends parents and send me mom a Kobo gift card so she can buy a new book, she lives too far away to easily visit. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week.

    • Thanks! I think it is supposed to be weird and creepy, because the book is set in an old insane asylum so yes, very creepy! I agree, Ice Like Fire is gorgeous, just like SLA! AW that was really nice to do for your mom, I hope she had a lovely day 😀

  16. A Madness so Discreet sounds awesome though, love the pretty covers. I didn’t like The Witch Hunter though, I found it cliche and boring. Maybe you might like it ? Hope you have a wonderful week 🙂
