Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine, which spotlights upcoming releases that we simply cannot wait for! This week, I chose The Cage by Megan Shepherd.
The Cage by Megan ShepherdSeries: The Cage #1

When Cora Mason wakes in a desert, she doesn't know where she is or who put her there. As she explores, she finds an impossible mix of environments--tundra next to desert, farm next to jungle--and a strangely empty town cobbled together from different cultures and time periods, all watched over by eerie black windows. And she isn't alone.
Four other teenagers have also been taken: a beautiful model, a tattooed smuggler, a secretive genius, and an army brat who seems to know too much about Cora's past. None of them have a clue as to what happened, and all of them have secrets. As the unlikely group struggles for leadership, they slowly start to trust each other. But when their mysterious jailer appears--a handsome young guard named Cassian--they realize that their captivity is more terrifying than they could ever imagine: their captors aren't from Earth. And they have taken they five teenagers to an otherworldly zoo--where the exhibits are humans.
When a forbidden attraction develops between Cora and Cassian, she realizes that her best chance of escape might be in the arms of her own jailer--though that would mean leaving the others behind. Can Cora manage to save herself and her companions? And if so…what world lies beyond the walls of their cage?
Why I’m Waiting: This is one that has been on my radar for a long time, and it finally has a lovely cover, so I am sharing my excitement! I mean, it seems weird, in a really good way. I love the idea of the different climates, cultures, and time periods. Then they are in a human zoo!? And the relationships sound like they’ll be quite complicated. Yes, yes, I will be needing to read this book!
What are you waiting for this week?
I have seen this one around and it looks fab!!

I’ve read the whole human zoo story line before, but I like the created world. It could be quite a good mystery as long as the romance isn’t over done.
I’m waiting on Ferals (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22864467-ferals) It’s a middle grade fantasy about people who can speak to certain kinds of animals, for the main character it’s crows.
Wow, sounds intense. A human zoo? Okay, I have to read about that! And forbidden love? What else could you need!?
Great pick, I will definitely be keeping my eye out for this one.
I haven’t read her first series, heard a few mixed things about the second books, but this is more my type of read. 🙂
Wow. This sounds fascinating. An exhibit of humans…wow. That’s unique. Reminds me of the Human Centipede (which I’ve never seen) in a way. Trapped places tend to be a thing these days. 🙂
Great pick, this one’s going on my Goodreads TBR.
